    Hey thanks for the explanation. I do have one question, can I use other pedals (like an OCD, etc) with the 4 cable method...do I just have to plug my guitar to it/them before the helix hx...and others like canyon delay after the hx going through the amps loop?
    Hoping I explain well my self.

    I'm just wondering which four cable method you used? One that line 6 recommends or the traditional way of hooking to effects Loop. I like the way you explain things.
    I'm just getting started with this.

    Hello there! Thanks for such a detailed explanation on routing this device! Very helpful. There's only thing that makes me wonder, is there a difference in signal path whether a guitar cable goes straight through the amp input (when HX is connected only to the FX loop of the amp) or running through 4CM with no blocks turned on on the front of the amp (such as distortion, compressor etc)? I mean would this have an affect on a guitar tone in terms of sound quality? Like double digital signal processing and stuff

  • @stevebirks1
    @stevebirks1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great explanation and everything works for me just as you explained.
    However, I have a question on how this block works. I set the block up on a footswitch thinking to use it turn all my loop fx off with it. However, the delays etc are still audible. I'm assuming that turning the loop block off will result in my delays etc being routed to the front of the amp instead of through its fx loop. Is this thinking correct??

    • @DoctorMcFarlandStudios
      @DoctorMcFarlandStudios  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are asking that question then maybe I didn’t explain it well enough. When you bypass the fx loop block you are sending your signal to the FX return of the amp and bypassing the preamp section resulting in a dull tone.

    very good explanation , I bought HX , and then covid hit and I covered up everything with a sheet , with no gigs and having gotten so bummed about it ,I never use it for anything , everything was on hold ( as we all know) , I'm glad I found your video's thank you , I run stereo could you send an erect to a third amp? using auto swell on a third amp is really press cool , the 3rd amp doesn't have a fx loop so could I send the effect with no return ?

    • @DoctorMcFarlandStudios
      @DoctorMcFarlandStudios  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it may be possible to send to a third amp using the Send of one of the FX Loops. You might want to experiment with placement and parallel paths as I have not tried this myself but with all the questions I have gotten about the HX Effects lately I think I need to expand on this series to cover more topics and suggestions. Thanks for watching and hope you find new ways to be creative without playing out live.

    I hope I explain this right. So now I'm using stomp boxes reverb/delay in my effects loop of my 6505+ for my leads and having to use my peavey footswitch to cut the fx loop on and off between leads. My question is if I buy the hx effects, will I still have to use my peavey footswitch to cut on and off between leads or can I do that with the hx effects?

    • @DoctorMcFarlandStudios
      @DoctorMcFarlandStudios  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should be able to change channels on the amp and use the delay and reverb in the FX Loop of the amp via the 4 Cable Method. Then you can create presets and snapshots of the different sounds you need. Sounds like a perfect setup to me.

    • @sergejkrynycky728
      @sergejkrynycky728 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jamie! Hope I’m not too late but as far as I know it doesn’t work on a lot of Peaveys like 6505+ and a lot of EVH amps too for example. Reason for that is that these amps have proprietary footswitching. I encourage you to read up on it. Unfortunately it’s very tricky to get this work on the 6505 amps.

    Hi, i’m using the HX effects in 4cm. The only issue i am having is that the pre-amp section of my Orange dark terror amp gets excluded in bybass mode. This also happens when the HX effects is turned off. Any idea how to solve this?

    • @DoctorMcFarlandStudios
      @DoctorMcFarlandStudios  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      What is bypass mode? You should have an FX Loop block in your signal chain to complete the 4CM setup. Do you have that in your signal path?

    • @rumglas
      @rumglas 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doctor McFarland Studios thx for your quick response! yes i have. When you kick both switches on the right the signal should bypass the hx effects. Thats when i am only left with the poweramp. Same happens when i shut the power of the hx effects. I hope it makes any sense. European here...Other than that i can just use the 4cm perfectly fine

    • @DoctorMcFarlandStudios
      @DoctorMcFarlandStudios  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      rumglas well when you bypass the HX you are also bypassing the FX Loop block and breaking the signal flow of the 4CM. I suggest you not bypass the HX but make a preset with all fx bypassed except for the FX Loop block.

  • @jamesbolton77

    Problem with FX Loop position in the signal chain. In this video and elsewhere, all dynamics (compressors), filters (wah), pitch shifters, and Volume pedals, and Gain based effects (overdrive/distortion) go before (to the left) of the FX Loop; all modulation (chorus, flangers, phasers) and time based effects (delays and reverbs) go AFTER (to the right) of FX Loop.
    What is happening for me with this standard 4CM is that nothing works unless it is BEFORE the FX Loop. I have seen others report this same problem eleswhere but no resolution.
