I associate with that mountain as well, especially because a specific version of that game allows you to shred with an Italian plumber, his brother, and the Princess.
First time listening to this band, though I've heard of them a lot. Strong QOTSA vibes, and interesting to hear how the bass and drum 2 piece works. Love the heaviness of the bass.
Try a band called royal blood, they are similar in the fact they they are a bass and drum 2 piece, I prefer death from above 1979 but both are great bands
I still get flashbacks of the black and white intro with the horse playing the 2 neck guitar whenever I hear "Run to the hills". That game is crazy awesome.
Who cares if someone found this from NBA 2k15? If they did, great, they found new music. Sport games let people discover great music a lot of the time. I'm glad DFA1979 is getting more attention, they deserve it.
This band got my attention when Zane low introduced them 14 years ago on mtv scuzzy they have been a favourite since and I finally seen them in January after all this time.... Go see them live .... Amazing
I saw them at the Black Cat in Washington, DC around 2004, give or take a year. Had never heard of them, was there to see another band (not sure if they were openers or there were three bands that night). Anyway, I opened the door to the room, a small venue where the stage is just a few feet off the floor. The hair on the back of my neck instantly stood up. I was like...who the fuck is making all that (great) noise?! Oh, just two guys. Years later and when I hear a song off this album, I'm pretty damn enthusiastic about it. wow surprisingly. this music is good. and this shit is recent???? this is actually a fucking breath of fresh air. holy shit. I mean its not original, but we need kind of music right now. all of us.
This is from 2004. Jesse, the bass player (well everything that isn't drums and vocals, really) nearly joined QOTSA after this band broke up in 2006. Both Foos and QOTSA are big supporters of DFA1979, and none are shitty.
You know your band goes hard when your most iconic riff sounds like an industrial accident.
underrated comment
Basically Swans' first two albums.
*stares intently at NIN*

In 2006 my mom put this CD in the car, and when this song came on (i was about 8 years old) was the moment I became obsessed with this band!

DFA still slaps in 2022, an absolutely sick band
That opening riff is iconic and I always associate it with me about to absolutely shred a video game mountain
I like how it sounds a bit like some sort of engine or generator trying to start.
I associate with that mountain as well, especially because a specific version of that game allows you to shred with an Italian plumber, his brother, and the Princess.
that Mountain and the whole video game soundtrack go hard
These guys have the ear for great riffs
Can't play this loud enough

I was on break at work and I headed to the bar with a coworker, she played this full blast on the way there, and I think I actually fell in love.

It's strange but I think I liked the psp version of the game better.
Just discovered this band. This sounds like some friends just wanting to rock out regardless of what others think of it.
I always wonder what Era Vulgaris would have sounded like if Keeler had played bass.
Holy shit....QOTSA+DFA1979 needs to happen
Same here. I already love the sound of this album, but with that kind of bass sound, it would have been even better ! :)

I have to learn that bass riff ASAP. I love it!
It's pretty easy - just be sure to tune to drop-D first!
Ed Katynski Thanks!
TheToasterStrudel actually is D tuning, not drop-D, but it's still playable on drop D
Angel Cárdenas oh. Thank you.
Angel Cárdenas Whoops, my mistake. Always getting the terminology mixed up.
WHY IS THIS SONG SO GOOD AHHHHHH
Saw these guys play on conam back in 2005…max weinberg played drums at the last part of the song while Sebastian sang, it was awesome haha

South Carolina kid is heating things up
His wounds are bleeding and we're filling the cup
This game will save us if we don't die young
C'mon, c'mon now yea have some fun
[Chorus](x4)
Come here baby I love your company
We could do it and start a family
She was living alone unhappily
We could do it, it's right romantically

DTFA 1979 at Coachella in 2011 was just about much fun I’ve ever had in the middle of the day.
Saw them 10 years ago. Such a killer live show. Stoked to see them on Sunday in Saan Dieago

This is the human giant theme lol.
Hunter Thomas Yes. Hence why it reminds me of human giant.

Saw them on Tuesday - go and see them if you can. Unreal.
Thx to ssx on tour for making me explore that underground band since 2008

Human.
Giant.
I love the guitar part. The beginning.
Its not guitar
+Kyle Rohan Well... it's a bass guitar indeed. So it's technically a guitar.
+CasperTimor They're making that sound with a bass?
+InsidAero Yes. You can make this kind of sound by "scratching" the strings with the pick

Thank you for the video.
Saw them do this on Conan right after it came out and had my face melted and mind blown.

Remember running lights for this band in a small club just after this album came out. Was a good night
Incredible song!
I heard this song way before 2k15 came out I heard it on this tony Hawk game I had which was probably in 2004 or 2005
John Chan Their song "Little Girl" off of the album "You're a Woman, I'm a Machine" was in Tony Hawks: American Wasteland.
one of their songs was in saints row 2 as well.

I nearly considered getting this album's logo as my first tattoo, I'm glad I settled on a shirt I've kept for 7 years instead.
dude...hat would have been killer to see! having a shirt is good too though :). I need my self some dlfa1979 shirt too..
Outrage! Is Now
How do you get an instrument to even sound like that
Cranked Ampeg amps and some of what we hear as bass is actually synth. You could achieve this sound on an Arturia Microbrute quite easily.
I believe the amps are an absolutely cranked set of solid state Peavey heads through PA speakers with smaller speakers designed for guitar cabs. There's an equipment rundown done by Premier Guitar which goes through it all, it's great!
Use a metal pick and scrape along the strings laterally with your amp turned up to stupid. The screamer and compression pedals help
People should do it more often
Can't believe that song was released in 2004...
