This song clicked for me from the very first time. I started playing bass because of it, then it followed my whole interest in music, my music studies and my degree. But it all started from here, and it gives me goosebumps whenever I listen to it, after so many years.
I saw these guys like 10 years ago, when nobody knew who they were and they were opening for Papa Roach at London Astoria. I very vividly remember them playing a song which rocked so hard it started a mosh pit at the front. I rediscovered these dudes the other day and forgot how fucking awesome they are.
***** haha yeah they were the first of 2 bands that opened for them, I remember everyone thinking who the fuck are these 2 dudes, wheres the guitarist? But when they got going, I remember this little group of people just spontaneously burst into a mosh and then it kicked off. I listened to some Papa Roach as well and realised how teen angsty that shit sounds, DFA are definitely way better, DFA were pretty underground at that stage, whilst Papa Roach were pretty well established, but opening for a popular band like Papa Roach most definitely must have helped in gaining them some exposure, I for one would have never come to have known about them, had I not seen them live like that.
shayan ali For anyone reading this, because of these comments, I did a search on google a few weeks ago, and saw that Death From Above 1979 were performing in London, so I booked tickets to see them. I saw them yesterday, and it was so fucking awesome. They've only gotten better as time has gone on, There new album is amazing, when they played this song yesterday, I swear I actually went clinically insane for a few moments.
shayan ali I saw them last month, and yeah, still as good live as ever. New album isn't quite as good as YAWIAM, but no one expected it to be. Still great in it's own right.
shayan ali You poor fucker, I got to see them in 2005 without having to endure Papa Roach and they were well known enough to be advertised in the window of HMV and be repeated on MTV2
oh man... I listen to this song on repeat every couple months.... and I now more than ever hear how siiiick the drumming is... and he's singing too... how do you hit those cymbals like that and pay attention to words????!!! You the MAN DUDE!!!... BOTH OF YOU!
By pure chance I saw them open for another band years ago... I was totally blown away. These two gentlemen know how to rock. I saw them at a festival again fairly recently, and I was pleased to see that they still rock fiercely.
Was playing American Wasteland just now when this song came on. There's me, nodding along to that rocking bassline while trying to complete my sponsor challenges for the day. And then I started to actually listen to the lyrics 🥶🥶 "you see this baby, she's my lady, can I hold you, love you". How the hell did this song make it onto the soundtrack of a videogame lol the 00s were absolutely wild.
My brother has a lady Oh, and one day she will have a baby My brother has a baby Oh, and one day, and one day she'll save me Ohhh oh need to talk to you girl Ohhhhhhhh No NOOO!!! You know this lady she's my baby She's my baby, baby When can I see you? Can I love you? Can I hold you, hold you? My brother has a baby Ohh oh No Ohhhhhhh NOOOO!!! You see this baby she's a lady She's a lady, lady When can I see you? Can I love you? Can I love you, love you? You know this lady she's my baby She's my baby, baby When can I see you? Why are people trying to compare this band to bands like Primus? DFA1979 is on a totally different plain than most bands.I consider this a indie band that is WAY out in the left field where very few venture to. Ive seen these guys live 5 times. They show up,they rock the house, with no lights, glamour,no effects, just down right good music...
Smashing Pumpkins have the songs: Death from Above, 1979, and an album called Machina...there is a correlation somewhere here. That is where it stops tho.
Nope. They were named death from above, maybe cause of smashing pumpkins, but then they got copyright striked, so they added singer's brithyear. Tbh made it cooler
this band is so much less popular than you'd think. but looking at spotify at least they have a dedicated fanbase that actually listens to their music. so many bands just have 1 song per album thats good. and then everything else is boring music that no one wants to hear. every song in YAWIAM hits hard.

I've played bass for the past ten years, and if you have played the bass guitar for a single day you should kneel down and pray to these gods.
Robin Wilson nah I'd only kneel to Cliff Burton.
You mustve only practiced once a year

That's a nice scratchless The Powers That B cover
Nice bro, i put this song when i go in my skateboard.
Most bass doesn't sound like this or fill this role. You pretty much have to start your own band to play like this.
i remember being 12/13 and feeling like a total badass listening to this song
Natalia Stones You don’t still?
How does a bassline have so much attitude! Man my face curls with disgust at how crunchy good this is.
That's called stankface. It happens when the bass has a lot of distortion and you're playing a good riff.
Man they have an ADDICTIVE sound!! I think thats the perfect way to describe it.
