Trijicon MRO, and the Unity Fast Mount. Is the MRO really that bad?

    I’ve owned two MRO greens. Sadly I bought the second one right before the first one organically broke. No impact, just broke. Yes trijicon fixed it. I sold the warrantied MRO and kept the other on a brand new SOLGW. I immediately was having trouble shooting repeatable accurate groups at distance. I blamed my self first, but then had trusted shooters try and they had the same result. I then questioned the gun/ammo but that didnt make sense. The dot, which was more like a green sun, was so crude it was already hard to be precise with at distance but I dealt with it anyways. Everyone started preaching to me about parallax issues but I sorda ignored them and thought “there’s no way trijicon would produce it if it had that bad of a problem”. Finally I went to a class at DARC. Shooting out from 50-500 the parallax was proven. I was shooting with Chris Woomer (Veil Solutions) and after shooting a couple of incredibly inconsistent groups he convinced me it was the MRO. I’ve always shyed from blaming gear; because it’s almost always the shooter but I’m here to tell you it was the MRO. As soon as I could afford to, I bought the new Aimpoint Duty RDS and would you believe I’m back to shooting like I know I can. If you’re on the fence about buying one, don’t make the same mistake I did. The people on the internet aren’t lying. Additionally the battery life is trash for the green and the red has the tint. The daylight 3 setting is unusable so the 1year battery life is a lie. Finally, next time someone says “eyebox” or “field of view” concerning a dot; ask yourself if that makes any sense. It’s a 1x red dot (atleast it’s supposed to be) there is no eyebox. If your field of view seems restricted OPEN YOUR OTHER EYE. Okay thanks for coming to my tedtalk.

    Personally, I like the MRO. Trijicon makes good optics.

  • @yipeeiaye
    @yipeeiaye 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    May not mean much - but here is my experience with the exact setup. I use Unity mounts for all of my optics for consistency. When they came out with the MRO mount I purchased an MRO understanding the feelings about this optic - but wanted to give it a shot as well as a lighter optic setup. I found that I was chasing the dot when Zero'g and it was just not trailing the adjustments the way my other dots did. I have heard about parallax shift some people experience and maybe it was that OR just me and ignorance or shitty eyes. I can honestly say that I wanted to love it. I now have a T2 on that carbine and it is a wonderful dot for me. FWIW - peace out and thanks Jeff!

    I used an MRO for 4 years. And used to be a defender of that optic and I shouldn't have been. After watching the InRange review I realized I'd had every single issue they had multiple times. Going cross eyed, massive impact shifts for no apparent reason, wandering zero, such a horrid tint that PiD was difficult. There's just no reason to run an MRO compared to even a 120 dollar Romeo 5.

    I have 15K rounds on my MRO and love it. I wouldn't take a Eotech if you gave it to me. I've had so many bad Eotechs at work and on other rifles to never trust them again.
    I also have a T2 and love it too but for different reasons entirely.
    My MRO has taken a beating and still keeps chugging along.

    Great video as always, and nice to hear someone not bashing the MRO. UNITY's were unobtanium when I got my MRO's so one is on a 2.33 ADM mount and one on a 1.93 Scalarworks. No complaints at all. Really like that UNITY integrated the BUIS into the mount (main reason I wanted one) so may have to suck it up and get one to replace the Scalarworks.

    MRO HD has been amazing for me with the hex cover on the front. Got it on a reptilia 1.93 mount with the scalarworks peak 02 sights also 1.93. It’s a thing of beauty.

    I love the MRO. I have at least half a dozen. The same people that complain about parallax are the ones that love LPVOs with 1-2mm of eye box where there is just as much parallax, but you can't get off center enough to ever notice. I routinely make sub-MOA hits out past 300. If you are concerned about shift of 1/4" under 100 then you have minimal shooting experience in the real world. The only place I dislike my MROs is in the magnification. The extreme angle of the emitter in relation to the lenses turns the dot into a slash under a magnifier. The "HD" version is an expensive fix that should be standard. A 3.0 version should be something we see from Trijicon.

    Thanks for leading with the height over bore stuff. Someone will say rounds will still do damage but that difference is between a gut shot vs heart shot or a Credit card shot vs a jaw or a miss. I know a guy who took 5.56 to the jaw he lived and was still able to get two rounds off on the bad dude.

    I Like the tall mounts (have one on my ExtarEP9 PCC) but I found that with a CQB RIFLE, a red dot sight with a lower 1/3 co-witness is a decent compromise for overall shooting on a AR15 in 5.56. I have a holosun 510c with the donut of death, lower 1/3, and a 36 yard zero is perfect for holdovers 0-300 yards out of a 10.5” pistol AR 🫡😎

    I have some of the early MROs, and they aren't as nice as T2 or Eotech in a tabletop comparison. But they all work great in actual practical use. MRO has too few bright settings. These days I lean on the feature-rich Holosun 403 (B or R) paired with a UTG mount. That sub $200 combo is nasty, for the money.
    I still cling to lower third & buis like its 2005.

    I don't think the mro is bad for the price per say but I just always preferred the aimpoint pro. Idk, just personal preference. That being said I have the unity fast mount for the t2 arriving. Got a bad neck and love how tall it is. I recently put a carry handle with a mount for an aimpoint t2, besides looking badass and retro I loved the height and will replace it with the unity. Thanks for the content sir.

    • @rdrgear
      @rdrgear  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes there is a “hold over “ based your preferred zero, and distance to the target. I use a 100yd for all of my rifles. So if i have a head box on a uspsa target. At 10yd. I will put my dot on the top edge of the target.

      I use the MRO and I’ve had no issues as far as shooting. I just trained with it and now the things I didn’t like at first aren’t an issue. Although I did have one in my safe for 2 years bought brand new. I went to use it and it didn’t work. I had to send it off to get the internals upgraded. Trijicon didn’t charge me anything but I had to pay shipping. Also the battery life isn’t great so I turn it off when not in use. Thats the only optic I have that I turn off. I have a T2 and quite a few other trijicon products they stay on 365.
