The first strum of the guitar made me think it was Drown With Me, but then it changed to something completely different, that also made me smile just the same. I haven't felt this love of a song since Drown With Me. Thank you Steven Wilson!
Steven, if you are reading this YOU MUST PLAY THIS LIVE. God. when the guitar part breaks; at 05:26 it just makes me cry like a baby. This is SO good. I think it's one of the best songs Steven has done. And no, I am NOT a Porcupine Tree mega fan. I love PT but I enjoyed Steven Wilson's solo works more. GOD. I'll be right back; I'm going to listen to this song again.
Same feels... it just take me back to my teenage years when I had to take long drives to the university. I used to blast a LOT of PT in my iPod. And also make me miss my home 🏡
Martín Enemigo : You have excellent taste! And to think it’s only on the demo disc from the “To the Bone” sp edition and not on the main cd is beyond me. Stevens a genius!
This song would be a masterpiece for any other artist, but for him it's just an outtake. "Inspiration? What's that? I can create something like this whenever I want". A bit of light for all the Porcupine Tree fanatics that don't accept anything else from this man.
csitMusic another outtake? This is a truly masterpiece from SW. Best stuff I've heard since Grace For Drowning. I'm not saying The Raven and Hand Cannot are bad, it's just since those two, SW started to take his influences too serious. Grace From Drowning for me it's the true sound of SW.
actually hand cannot erase is his purest sound..... its combines all the elements from throughout his career. also grace for drowning was a good attempt and hence the whole album wasn't good but had some of the best songs he ever created.
i think most pt fans just rember him from the absentia days onwards. they forget this is the same guy who created stupid dream. songs like lazarus and trains......
And some of the worst. Perfect Life and the title track were pretty terrible. And the other songs had underwhelming parts. IMO ofcourse. I went from loving the instrumental parts of Ancestral to thinking parts of it was pretty dull. For example.
imo "hand cannot erase" was a pretty epheremal album for me. Has its moments... but it's not like I'm eager to give it another spin soon.. I think "Grace for Drowning" is his best solo album so far. "a door marked summer" is a diamond... I'm instantly hooked.. reason may be that this sounds so familiar. It's hard to "let him go" when you grew strong bonds with his Porcupine Tree work from the millenium (Lightbulb Sun and Stupid Dream) to Deadwing (Fear of a blank planet already wasn't something for me). His solo stuff is really good from an outsider perspective, and maybe really good in a music reviewer perspective. But if you know what songs he wrote before, you just can be kinda disappointed. I bought Hand cannot Erase and To the bone on vinyl (like always) and I don't regret it, it's good music, it completes my collection... but it's not something that's spinning very often on my record-player. But "to the bones" sounds better to me than "hand cannot erase". Also I'm kinda glad that Marco Minnemann was "booted" or whatever you gonna call it. While I generally liked his drumming in the whole context of "The Raven...", the same time I found his drumming style on "Hand cannot erase" too much intrusive and misplaced at times. He's an absolute talented and great drummer but far from being in my Top 10 drummers (but remember: I have no real clue about music, so just my personal opinion). Guthrie Govan on the other side was a big loss :-( Another topic is Ninet Tayeb. She's a great singer and I really like her singing in her solo stuff. But I don't really know how she fits into Steven Wilsons songs. He says he "wrote Pariah for her voice" but tbh it's the worst song with her. It's not fitting at all (imo). Only the ending her voice caresses my ears. The other songs are ok. But I always had this weird feeling when she sung in one of his songs. Often seemed out of place. I'm curious what he will bring us next... maybe we can expect something like "a door marked summer" next time? :-D would be nice to get a bit back to the "roots" (although his musical roots go way back to the early 90's)
Steven is a Genius, I think most of you would agree? He has so many sides to him musically, he's super intelligent, well read, well versed in all genres of music and has an open mind and probably thinks constantly all of which we can never fully comprehend. I love the man and he never fails to surprise, impress, astound and deliver music which fascinates me.
I share your every single word reported in the comment. It's good that someone thinks like me, I'm very pleased. Sorry for my English but I write from Italy. :-)
Agree 100%, he never fails to impress me, and he churns out magical music to nourish our hearts and minds, love the guy, can't get enough, always wanting more. I hope he gets some commercial success with this album it's got it all.
He may be a deep thinker, but he's not wise. To be wise, you must first have reverence for God. He denies God. Yet people call him God! Yet God made HIM! God is greater!
@@agemoth No - the fact that he doesn’t believe in god just makes him all the wiser. It shows that his mind won’t accept something blindly that was created and made up by other humans.
This was a very bad day for me. Until I saw this link. And I came in expecting more stuff from the album. But I'm so happy right now. This song made my day so much better. The nostalgia, the sound, the ambience. Everything just speaks to me as if from the past.
I get a strong feeling of nostalgia listening to this song To me it has the same melancholic feel and mood of Blackfield's Summer ,Small Fish and drown with me
PandaOnATree I came to the comments searching if someone else felt this too. This is exactly how I feel about this song. As much as I love the rest of the album, this song is just comforting to the soul.
I think this song it's kind a "fanservice" thing... it's like food to the fans of the old works of Wilson, specially with Porcupine Tree. Anyways, it's pretty good.
Muditavardhan Prasad funny that I started crying while listening to that fabulous guitar solo just before I read your comment. This track is unbelievable.
Muditavardhan Prasad I really hope that happens. I'll see him next March at Royal Albert Hall and it'd be glorious to see this one alive. It won't really matter if he doesn't play it, but I'm sure he'd bring me to tears if he played it. Well, he'll do anyways, no matter which is the setlist. This man always nails it.

As far as I know; “A Door Marked Summer” was only released on the deluxe edition of “To The Bone: Demos Disc.” It truly is so amazing and yes the guitar at the end is eye watering awesome.” I’ve looped it to make it longer.
Damn, so Wilson-ish and so good! I love this track more than most of the actual album. I understand why he didn't keep it given the difference with the mood of the album. That being said, I wish he had explored more this aerial mood instead of the more traditional pop rock side of the final album. Love the synth shits on this b-side and Ask Me Nicely.
This is the only Steven Wilson style song so far from the whole album. I liked it. Not that I dislike the others, I'm just used to this and it comforts my soul :)
This song is better than most of the other songs on this album.

Crinoline runs down her face
The embers of firelight arrange shadows
A black winter burned
By the summer gone
Down on it's luck
Now that we were born the leaves are all forever
Autumn strong
Candle blows out
Now she knows we gotta run to the shore
I drink in the spot I was wearily older
Sleeping to dreaming awake
The fish will still bite as the river gets colder
Rain drops against
As the sunlight fades
Lighting a match
Now that we were born the leaves are all forever
Autumn strong
The fisherman's catch

As far as I know; “A Door Marked Summer” was only released on the deluxe edition of “To The Bone: Demos Disc.” It truly is so amazing and yes the guitar at the end is eye watering awesome.” I’ve looped it to make it longer.
Thank's for posting nice one
Wow this is great.......wish it made the album
I like this one a lot .
Ce morceau est un pur chef d'oeuvre, la fin est sublime :-)))))
I get a seriously strong Pat Metheny vibe from 2:10 to 3:40 (and I love it). Even that clean, mid-rangey lead tone is very Metheny-esque.
Cua Mercado what about Song Of Unborn?
beautiful and inspiring
5 1/2?
I wouldnt mind that
Holy guacamole. If this is an outtake imagine how good the "left overs" EP will be.

Great song like many others. I wish I could hear this live
Two minutes in...Watcher of the Skies...ahhhh!
This song has GOT to be on his next album.

Beautiful song. Brings me back to Porcupine Tree.
