As much as I like SW's solo work, nothing will top the way the Gavin Harrison-era PT played complex, yet tightly constructed songs with a one-of-a-kind sonic chemistry; Technical drums, silky smooth bass, biting guitars and atmospheric synth landscapes.
I love this band so much! I just discovered them this year 2020 and they are my new favorite band! I’ve listened to everything I can find! They are just what Steve Wilson says a genre all on their own. Porcupine Tree music!!! I just LOVE IT !!!!!!
I've known a good handful of their songs for years and always enjoyed them, but for some insane reason never delved into their album catalog until this year! Why the Hell did I wait so long?? They're PHENOMENAL!
As a drummer for years (since 1968) who evolved lovingly through all the prog bands I noticed this new, amazing, drummer in King Crimson. Gavin Harrison. Best drummer currently playing. Introduced me to the best band currently (?!) playing. What talents, Gavin, Stephen, etc al.
So you've unleashed the f-ing fury of PT (to put it in Malmsteen's in-flight tantrum terms. There's no going back to/for Lars Lannerback). SW & PT are the perfect band to get obsessed with because there's so much great music.
This version of "Black Dahlia" always hits me harder than the version on the album. Something about the vocals just works better without any affectations
A massive album early on often spells the death of a band which is why I'm glad that PT never became mega-huge. . They just kept getting better and better, then broke up and Steven Wilson kept on going and is going to end up who knows where.....amazing. Perhaps a PT reunion is in the cards, which WOULD be huge.
Steven claims he will never reform PT because there's no point in 'going backwards', _but_ he has gone back on other things he's said in the past, so who knows. That said, between the delay in releasing/promoting The Future Bites and our current pandemic mess, it seems unlikely it could happen within the next two years.

A week ago, I had never heard of PT, but I found references to Gavin's elite status in drumming circles-and yes, I am blown away with Gavin's insane technique and capabilities, but also with the music and the whole band. Can't believe I've gone this far without knowing about them.
Gavin pointed out that he never auditioned for King Crimson - he was simply asked to join, Fripp having seen him perform dozens of times on the 2007 KC-PT tour. He was easily my favorite of the 3 drummers up front when I saw Crimson back in 2018 (or 2017? can't even remember anymore), and he has the most amazingly distinctive sound and style. On top of being amazingly technically proficient and really good at playing "in the pocket" as drummers like to say, he also is so adaptable that he was able to play on SW's Insurgentes album without sounding like himself. Whenever the other PT manages to make it back here to the States I am going to go - not only have I been getting more into their music of late, but for sure Gavin is an attraction unto himself. Cheers!

I can also recommend John Weasley who has made great music since PT dissolved. I want to thank the great British record store Burning Shed for all the great releases :) Looking forward to see Pineapple Thief in Stockholm when the Corona stuff pass.

I hear you USMCSDI, i felt the same until i really started listening close to SW solo work, and Gav's TPT work. Steven is moving in a new way that really is stunning and new, and it may lack the progressiveness of PT, but it has stunning value for the Post-prog era. Same can be said with TPT, they are completely different than PT, but Gav adds the intricate drumming to TPT's amazing sound landscape. I encourage you to listen to The Pineapple Thief, as they are really growing in darkness, and skill.
I miss PT so much. Steven Wilson's newest solo material just isn't doing anything for me. I liked his first few solo records like Insurgentes, Grace For Drowning, and The Raven That Refused To Sing but couldn't get into his stuff after.

not to mention wilson's vocal layering

Wow this is fab
warm up before PTCC nov 2021...☕😋🚌💨💨
I'm missing this......this resonates with me. Mr. Wilsons new stuff isn't working for me.
Jeezuz! This sends shivers down my spine. Is that a Roland that I hear? I damn WILL find this vinyl! Thank you so much for posting this!!! So many familiarly haunting elements bringing back memories that mesh with others. Now everything is new again
You can try ebay, or specialised second-hand vinyl/record stores, but it may be very hard to find or very expensive. Hopefully you find it one day :)
Que música deliciosa....um bálsamo para os ouvidos......
I wish PT never split up... no NEW music since 2009
I hear you USMCSDI, i felt the same until i really started listening close to SW solo work, and Gav's TPT work.
@@robertsomerville320 I also am a HUGE fan of the Pineapple Thief.... before Gavin and especially now WITH Gavin!
@@robertsomerville320 TPT is good but I felt that the new TPT album was a bit of a disappointment. The last two with Gavin were great.
First song😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Black Dahlia is my graveyard song
I prefer this version over the original.
Sensacional ♥️
how come only Gavin is not being blessed by a beam of light from the lawd in the artwork
coz he didnt wear sunglasses
Is Album is Great,or Amazing,or what ever!
How a comment under a video from the song "The Start Of Something Beautiful" said: You get high by just listening to their music.
Black Dhalia Sounds preety good it's really touch
geniální!!!!
This is like the Beatles on the Rooftop or something....
Sometimes reminds me of Gentle Giant.
🤩
I wiiiiiill not force myself to like the latest Solo...I wiiiiiiillll force myself to adore any possible PT reunion
I miss PT so much. Steven Wilson's newest solo material just isn't doing anything for me. I liked his first few solo records like Insurgentes, Grace For Drowning, and The Raven That Refused To Sing but couldn't get into his stuff after.
Tool POT with that second song over there
maybe, but Futile is from 4 years earlier
A shame of the 1200 limmited copys, they are now for sail for stuppid high prices
