I have to give them credit. This is exactly how Kara acted when she first got to earth in the comics and cartoons.
She instantly has a suit when she gets to earth?
@@osskeet 🙌🏼 yes
@@osskeet Yes, as she travels in the pod between dimensions her costume changes towards the end of her journey. Unlike her cousin whom was sent as an infant to Earth thus didn’t get his costume until he went to that piece of Krypton he went to and was spoken to by his father, she decides to take Zaltars travel pod herself and chase after her homes power source, the Omegahedron.
@@osskeet if you take a good look at the scene where Kara gets into the pod. You will notice there's a red, blue and yellow piece of fabric where she sits down. Besides the bracelet given by zaltar has the power to modify molecules
@@jane1975 That place is called the fortress of solitude
This was the best scene in the movie by far. It really captured the magic and awe of someone discovering they could fly and it also looked very realistic as Helen performed the whole thing herself after training for months in gymnastics and ballet. A great memory from my childhood...always loved this film!
I prefer the scene when she beats up the 2 guys trying to take advantage of her
Helen Slater Says That She, Had The Easiest Experience in The Flying Harness Scenes
Same! 👍
Any man who wishes to date her better heed what she can do with her hands!!!
You can tell they had achieved a lot with their flying special effects and were at this point much better than in the first Superman movies, good as they were.
A lot of people blamed helen slater for the movie failing, but she did great in everything else.
It was a weak script not her.
Agreed. Helen Slater was a good fit, the plot and script was just lazy
Better than CW
I loved this film as a kid and still do 😁
Helen Slater was as well cast as Kara as Christopher Reeve was as Kal-El. The movie didn't deserve her. She's by far the best thing in the movie which considering who she's acting against is saying something.
All the way back in 1984, this was an attempt to create a “cinematic universe”. Many also forget that THIS was actually the first female led superhero film
What about that wonder woman tv show from the 70s
@@Ballowax Film, not TV show
They were going to do Batman vs Superman in the late 90s
@@WillNelson73 well, now, Wonder Woman is in 80s too...1984. XD
@@domingogomez9030 the 80s were the height of mankind. All downhill since then
as a child, i found the scene of her leaping off rocks MAGICAL!!!
This scene alone perfectly captures the characters of Supergirl - young, carefree and adventurous.
Unfortunately it was a huge flop that time. Its hard to believe that it didnt earn much just 14m $ worldwide
The shot at 2:09 is perfection. Very convincing that she is really flying.
Helen Slater did such a great performance. The air ballet scene is so enchanting and wonderfully choreographed.
It wasn't the greatest movie but it's still a guilty pleasure of mine and I just love Helen Slater as Supergirl! So pretty! Loved the 80s and being an 80s kid!
It's Still, Pretty Awesome
Mine too! A fun guilty pleasure. Love it!
I wish I can go back
She was great in the role. Too bad the movie itself was very uneven.
I like the movie!
It's 2019 and Helen Slater/ uniform is still the perfect Supergirl in my book!
Agreed
@Rob Davis I would have watched it for that alone. She was the perfect choice for the role.
Agreed!!!
Agreed.
2005 Comic Book Custome Is PERFECT
In this movie is Still better
Always loved this movie, Helen Slater was an amazing Supergirl.
I have this movie. The music sounds very gentle at times. I felt in love with her. Also these flying scenes were awesome... Real. No CGI. The power of cables. She's always going to be my SG. ❤
Haters gonna hate...but I have always and will always love this movie
The perfect Supergirl look and costume. Helen is beautiful. It's a shame the movie wasn't very good.
I thought at some point she would appear in the Superman franchise with Christopher Reeve but... SMDH
@@nestaparks9370 Supposedly the original concept was for her to debut in Superman 3 and do a spin-off. How the film wound up to be the Richard Pryor comedy I can't say.
@@tonyfelder1206 I love Richard Pryor but that was the weakest Superman movie ever. I wonder what the original script looked like because that movie looked rushed and not a lot of time was spent on developing a story. As much as everyone said they hated Superman IV.... I preferred that one over III.
@@nestaparks9370 I have to admit, S3 is one of my guilty pleasures. I can't believe a franchise as popular as it was went downhill so badly. If the visual effects were half as good as it is now, the studio could've focus more on better scripts and get inspiration from the comic books. A part S4's budget went to making "Masters of the Universe"🤔🤔🤔.
True. But Helen was beautiful and fit the role beautifully.
For everything wrong with the story, the greatest thing they did was to capture her excitement and innocence, the joy of seeing flowers and plants, the thrill of flying.
Unfortunately, a Superman showing this kind of innocence comes across as too naive, but the actress here did an amazing job.
Also, I'd say this starting to fly sequence would have to be one of the best, especially with the music.
As much as I enjoy the Supergirl TV series, I gotta admit, this scene right here was really captivating! The visuals & music! Everything about it!
1:43-2:18 is probably the most realistic I have ever seen a character flying. You can't see the strings or a harness and that timeframe isn’t even CGI compared to the other stuff. I’m really impressed.
Helen did such a convincing job emoting purity and sincerity throughout the entire movie. Very consistent performance. You truly believe it.
She is so incredibly beautiful
TheRubberStudiosASMR
She really is a beautiful superhero.
TheRubberStudiosASMR ikr
Absolutely. And she ha some talent, the special effects were even better than in the first Superman movies, but sadly this one never "took off" and either did her career.
She is the best part of this movie.
She's awesome
That was a great movie. And Helen was the best Supergirl selection!
She's so strong yet beautiful. I love it!
Helen Slater's casting was just as perfect as Christopher Reeve's. This also has the best flying sequences out of any film period. Not a great movie by any means, but enjoyable, sweet, and very charming. Jerry Goldsmith's score was absolutely magical too.
Helen did not use stunts, she trained and made all this shots herself. Awesome job, big time.
David Blaine was her trainer
So she really can fly?
@@simonpobjoy5228 do stuntmen fly?
@@ayemyyeah he must be a badass magician and training others when only 10 years old
@@johnhyout wow, You're a quick one aren't you?
I Love Helen Slater. She is just as beautiful now as she was when she was younger. She is a great Actress !!
Sooo true.
My facebook friend Albert got to meet her and he told me she is really sweet
She was Great in Ruthless People, With Bette Midler and Danny Devito
Helen Slater looks like she was having so much fun. She was so graceful in the flight scenes.
Spock vs Khan I highly doubt it was has fun as it looks filming those sequences
The graceful & elegant actions of flight is what is missing from the CGI creations of today.
Most beautiful bit of on-wires flying ever put to film, i think.
This was my first movie crush as a little boy. Mom used to ask me if I wanted to watch Superman and I'd ask to watch Supergirl instead and she'd look at me funny as I wrung my hands together nervously.
Beautiful feminine touch here. Nicely done. Helen is a perfect Super Girl!
i remember seeing this in the theater in 84 as a kid....i was in love.....old school movie cables still look more real then CGI 2day
Me too. I was 10 years old at the time and in 5th grade
They still hang on Cables. They just Photoshop it out nowdays.
this is so aesthetically pleasing! I loved this movie as a kid
yep , as opposed to her tv show counterpart , who is pretty yes,but not smoking hot like sh should be . Kal-El and Kara are supposed to look smoking hot
facts!
ternitamas me too
I can't get over how they used a cardboard cutout of Supergirl when she emerges from the water with dry hair, before the video cuts. I rewatched the movie this past weekend and couldn't think of how they did the effect and had to look it up. So clever!
The perfect girl of Steele. She’s simply innocently beautiful.
Egyetértek,
I'm still in love with Helen Slater today and its been 36 years!
Nem sokat változott...
Margot robbie in remake
It’s been 29 years for me and I was 6 years old when I first saw her in the movie. Fell In Love with Helen Slater that day, And today at 35 years old, Still In Love with Her And Always will be. MY BEST GIRL FOREVER AND EVER ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Me too
@@chrishague8759 Oh my friend Nikki would go ape if that happens
Watching Supergirl fly around the woods had to be one of the sweetest things I’ve ever seen
Highly agreed :)
Such a beautiful scene, as all the flight scenes in "Supergirl" are.
And what people don't know is Helen Slater did all of the stunts of the flight scenes on a Wire.
I love these kind of scenes! In those days there were fewer resources, but the movies possessed more magic, beauty, heart and talent than today's movies.
Helen Slater it's perfect as Supergirl! 😍
She is of angelic beauty and a fine actress. Is tragic that everything else in the movie came out terrible.
The best and more beauty Supergirl ever. Pity it wasn't so succesfull as Superman.
Yes, 1000x better than that newer show. That is NOT the traditional character!
Most graceful flying ever. Beautiful.
This movie deserves so much more credit!
She flew like an angel
The best supergirl movie
Everyone saying the movie was horrible, I loved it!
Granted, this film is very uneven. It suffers mainly from a lazy script (with too much camp and a lack of dramatic tension). But it still has its moments of brilliance, such as this scene (the most beautiful flying ballet of all superhero movies, all the more spectacular as it's devoid of CGI), and Helen Slater is perfect in her dual role of Kara/Linda. I find her character refreshing because if Superman just pretends to be bumbling Clark Kent, Linda is genuinely naive and awkward.
This movie is definitely a guilty pleasure and I love it! God bless its cast and crew! 👍👍👏👏
Better flight sequence than today's movies. Ahaha. Looks real here (except the soaring the skies cgi flight scenes).
and the gravity defying cape.
Royce John Solquillo What do you mean “cgi flight scenes”?
There is zero cgi in this film.
You can really tell that Supergirl was intended to be seen in theaters.
@@davidolden971 He means the flying in front of the green screens.
I saw it many times, and it was underrated and deserved another chance...
When 1984 graphics is more realistic then CW’s supergirl
You're right
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees!!!!!!
You mean special effects
It's a show not a movie if they make good effects they won't have enough money to finish the season or episode
graphics ? she was literally swinging from wires and the flower bloom was simple hydraulics
The Flying Scenes are Totally Awesome
Now she plays as Kara and Alex's mom in Supergirl
She also played Clark's kryptonian mom in Smallville
And I believe she was also the voice of Talia Al Ghul in Batman: The Animated Series.
She still looks very good for her age. I remember I was very young when I saw this movie. I recently bought it on dvd. I had it on beta video when I was a child in the 80s.
@@ivandeklerk697 She looks horrible. Who are you looking at?
@@Idkwhattoput-p2s I'm talking about Helen Slater who plays Kara and Alex's mother in Supergirl. Obviously she's older as when she played Supergirl in the movie but she still looks good.
The fun fact is that Helen Slater did the voice of Talia al Ghul from Batman the animated series and Martha Kent from dc superhero girls generation 1. And, also in live action series of smallville as kara’s mom and Kara’s adoptive mother from supergirl.
Beautiful flying scene! Helen nailed the character, and her discovery of flight. Better than Man of Steel and the Supergirl TV series after season 1. Which is a shame, since season 1 was wonderful. Anyway, I still love the 1984 film. Started out as a misfire, now it's value increased ten fold due to the excellent score, flying effects, Helen's performance, practical stunts and the extended cut. Plus that Superman photo scene was emotional. I wish Chris and Helen had a moment together on screen, it would have been historic. But I'm glad they got to meet in real life.
This was filmed next to Loch Lomond in Scotland.
Ahhh,Jerry Goldsmith's music soars with excitement.
This is still, even now, an impressive scene. The wire work was great... it looked realistic. This should be a standard for films.
That wire work for the flight was amazing. I very much doubt we could achieve the same effect today without additional CGI.
Lady Helen Slater as Supergirl from 1984,Incredible Music and Special Effects
Helen Slater is so gorgeous and graceful as Supergirl. She is one one of the most beautiful and fascinating women who ever existed. Helen also remind me a lot of Agnetha Faltskog from ABBA and Olivia Newton-John aswell in the peak of their own beauty.
One of my favorite movies when I was a kid
Helen Slater to me will Always be THE BEST THERE IS. THE BEST THERE WAS. AND THE BEST THERE EVER WILL BE!!! No Other Woman In The World Will Ever Come Close.
It’s a shame it’s over for a bad script. Helen was the perfect super girl and the costume was beautiful and true to the source material. I honestly don’t know why Melissa’s costume can’t have the yellow behind the red S. God knows her character has earned it
No matter what they all say, this film (while suffers from the script) is underrated! Helen Slater, the production design, and Jerry Goldsmith's score were the real factors of the film that really succeeds! Also... WHERE THE HECK IS THE BLU RAY FOR THIS FILM?! Hope it gets the same treatment as the Superman films did, since this is apart of the franchise. The extended director's cut also needs a fixing in sound and picture quality! I'll be most happiest Supergirl fan to hear if this ever happens!
yea but the movie can be better like the superman films
Yes, certain aspects and moments in this film (like this scene) are so good that they make me wish the film as a whole were better.
I also heard that this is in the donner continuity, so that's cool, too. This could make a decent superman 5 (yes i know that supergirl was released before superman 4)
I totally agree!
Best scene to date of a hero learning about his powers.
Should have been more than one movie of this
Loved watching this movie back in 1989 as a kid.😇💎🕚🕥
Even the music made her seem all the more innocent and beautiful ❤️
When they made simple beautiful movies.
This one video is better then the whole of the super girl modern series.
I saw this film at the cinema and I thought it was brilliant the music was good to all those years past now
Happy Birthday Kara /Supergirl Helen Slater mother of Kara Davis in the Series ❤❤🎉🎉
She has great hair, btw.
the Slater's hair was a dream but the Witch Dunaway's hair?
If you slow down the scene of Supergirl rising out of the water, you'll see that it is just a photo cutout of her being pulled up by a wire. It's so simple, yet so effective when watching at full speed.
And, Helen Slater is just so gorgeous. She still is.
You're right. You can see the wire pulling it up as well.
Great theme music by Jerry Goldsmith! And it compliments John Williams' Superman theme.
As a boy, I quickly "fell in love" with this Super-Girl. Even now, she looks as beatiful and innocent as ever. Too bad innocence is so rarely found in movies and in life nowadays.
ABSOLUTELY ADORE THIS FILM
It’s impressive that they found an actress who could actually fly for this role!
It is still fun to watch this movie scene in 2021 just like when I first watched in the theaters in 1984.
Oh this scene is beautiful😍✨❤
she floats in the air perfectly with no string attached.
Helen Slater captures as supergirl at anytime.
I like how the emergence of each power appears symbolically feminine and not purely destructive for action sake.
They didn't try to make her a try hard tomboy stud like what's been done with Sasha Calle.
Crushing the hard rock but not destroying it, more like fertilizing the ground. More of a playful transformation, and shows the rebirth cycle, which is on her chest and borrowed from both the infinity symbol ♾️ and the Ouroboros (snake eating its own tail)
Uses her ray vision to bloom the flower. Again, not denying it fulfillment, purpose or life, it has matured and may do what it was destined to do. The flower was plucked up and empowered just as she was from her home planet.
Flying through the valley with a mountain in the background. Rather harmonious. Not in disharmony with the gender dichotomy both of those represent.
All her displays of power are linked. Probably not an intentional trinity.
I don't quite have the words but that's the impression I get.
Helen Slater, I adore you. You are the perfect woman.
ArnieS1984 it’s not good to idolise, repent, and focus on Jesus. God bless you!
Yesssss. I would turn straight for her. Beautiful, strong and innocent at the same time. She's perfect.
I also clicked because legs.
And now Helen Slater is Foster mother of new super girl
Supergirl brings me back to the carefree 80s as a kid. 40 years old this film😮..
This movie made me fall in love with Hellen Slater, a long side The Legend of Billie Jean. She is still beautiful and I’m glad she is on the CW’s Supergirl.
I love this woman.
helen slater was wonderful
She is very cute and beautiful in appearance, and has beautiful voice. She is also a great singer as she demonstrated in “Happy Together”. Moreover, she is elegant, sophisticated, and refined. She is one of very small number of American actresses who shine from inside.
Welcome to Earth, Supergirl. This is your new home.
Also supergirl: *Performs injustice 2 supermove*
Except that she goes back to Argo City at the end of the film.
0:46 yep.
Richard Thompson She should’ve stayed on Earth when she had the chance.
I can fly with Supergirl everyday.
You Can Fly!
Even after all these years, the wire work still looks Sensational!
She’s back, y’all!
I watched this so many times on video growing up
Me too!
Yes, a flop back in the day...watching it now in 2024 it's a beautiful cult movie.....a bloody good movie filled with charm and cincerity...awsome soundtrack to match....thank god it was made and treasured now! ❤❤❤
She was great
She's the most favorite super hero since I was 8 until now.
I hope there will be a solo movie of supergirl.
If it only had a better script, Christopher Reeve would made more than just an appearance on a poster in Lucy Lane's room. Helens portrayal of Kara's inner light and innocence was perfect.
Helen Slater was and is the definitive Supergirl.
I Love Lady Helen Slater as Supergirl
Me gustó mucho esta peli, y para cuando la vi siendo solo un niño en verdad quedé impactado con las escenas de vuelo y las de acción. Excelente material. Saludos 👋👋
The flying effect is actually pretty good, much better than Superman 4 wtf
