I know you created this video a few years ago but I'm seeing it for the first time right now. Thank you so much for your explanation--and thank you for repeating "fold away from the valley" several times because it really helped stick it in my brain without me having to keep starting the video over. I also learned about testing the paper for its grain--that was a big help to me because it seemed that whenever I folded textured paper, it cracked. Turned out that I was cutting and folding the textured paper against the grain in my attempt to reserve as much paper as possible by cutting at that different angle. Not much of a savings since I had to keep starting over until the paper worked (without understanding that it was my fault, not the paper's fault). Arrrgh, thank heavens for TH-cam to help us rookies out! Again, thank you!
Wow, you're awesome!!! Not just did I re-learn the proper way of doing this (been decades since I did this sort of thing), BUT, I learned about some really cool tools I didn't even know exist like that scoring board and tool. Thanks again!!!
I've always had trouble remembering which way to fold a scoreline. I never thought about the score stretching the paper, but knowing that will make it so much easier to remember.
I know this video is old but I just wanted to take the time to send you blessings and happiness. You have saved me a great deal of money because the amount of cardstock I've wasted due to poor scoring is unbelievable! I had no idea this was the correct way to score cardstock and fold it. Thank you so very much! I tried it and it's working beautifully!
Just found your informative video, I’ve always had that question, now I’ll do it the right way! Oh my and the wax paper tip I will definitely be using, my stylus would always be dragging and sometimes jump the track. I’m checking out your other videos too! Happy crafting
Seriously, thank you for this video! I wondered why my scoreboard was doing such a crappy job...and it's because I was folding the wrong way!! Thank you!!!
I did research on this issue because so many folks are adamant that their wrong direction is the way to do it. I also checked with folks in the paper industry, not stampers. Michele Wright is right according to paper industry experts.
Thank you for clearing up the thing that was driving me nuts! I never knew which way to fold the scoreline. If I understand you correctly, the scoreline itself (the valley) will end up on the outside of the, for example, a greeting card, and NOT folded into the card. Is this correct? Thanks again!
Explaining about the fibers stretching is what will make it stick in my mind, thank you! I have had trouble remembering the valley/mountain thing, so now that I know WHY you fold away from the score line (stretched fibers) I will be able to remember. Now I will no longer have cracked folds, something that has frustrated me greatly :-)
Great tip 👍, thank Michele! I like the idea of rubbing the cardstock down with wax paper! My demonstrator told me to rub the stylus in a piece of dry soap before scoring, but i like your idea better so i don't end up with my cardstock smelling scented. Question: Does it matter which side of the stylus you use?
Is it just me....? I know everyone says the same thing. The fibers are stretched in the valley and the valley is folded to outside. So it seems that the valley is then turned into a mountain, essentially, once the fold is made. BUT isn't it true that the fibers on the mountain side are also strerched during the same scoring? It seems that if the mountain were to be folded to the outside, it would have less strain on the crease because it is already a mountain and after the fold is completed, it is still a mountain. Does that make sense or is it just me?
The way a paper industry guy explained it to me is that the bunched up fibers from the mountain fold get hidden inside of the fold so that the smooth edge is visible on the outside of the card. In the past, I sometimes -- not always -- got crackly edges from the mountain fold being on the outside of my card.

Just the answer I needed.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and expertise!

Thank you! This was a debate at my Stampin’ Up class and everyone disagreed with me. I love being right. 🤣🤣🤣

THANK YOU FOR SUCH A CLEAR TUTORIAL.
Exactly what I need to know! Thank you!
Thank you I always wondered what the proper way was and now I know for sure. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you this helped me a lot
What a great idea. Thank you so much. (I did hit both those buttons!!)
I always say "valleys become mountains "
Brilliant! Thank you!
Thank you for confirming that tip
Ok - any suggestion how to score and fold boxes when you print a template but don’t want the printed fold lines on the outside of the box!!! 😊
Thanks for the tip 😊
Liz Serich you’re very welcome 🥰

What if I score UV coated 14 point cardstock. Is that possible to do?
thank you.

Why the wax paper????
thank you
