This video on our channel Backpacker Science is about sustainable whale watching The Azores are located in the Atlantic Ocean between America and Europe and belong to Portugal. On Pico Island, one of the volcanic islands, with a typical volcanic peak, you can watch whales from Porto de Lages do Pico. The place, which used to live from whaling in earlier times, is nowadays a place where whaling knowledge is used for whale watching. This tourist attraction is subject to some rules that make it animal-friendlyer, according to WWF. In any case, whale watching in the wild is better than watching or hunting whales in captivity. We were able to observe sperm whales, pilot whales, dolphins, fin whales and sei whales and much more.
I will introduce the destination Pico in a further video, as well as the destination Azores. Watching whales in the ocean in the wild was definitely a highlight of our trip and should not be missed on the Islands not far from America. It is important to find the right providers, for this. I link the WWF for the rules of whale watching and give other travel tips in the video on the topic.
We found our provider in a travel guide of the local library, which had listed the most sustainable and best experiences on the Azores. Take a look at your library for such a travel guide. IT, will have many additional tips, which I can not provide in a short video.

Wir haben mal eine Whal-Watching-Tour in Norwegen gemacht. Offenbar hatte der Potwal Bock, denn er schwamm 10 Minuten neben dem Boot, ehe er abtauchte. War ein tolles Erlebnis. Interessante Ausführungen von dir. Vielen Dank dafür. LG
Danke ja kommt natürlich immer drauf an aber soviel ich weiß sind pott2ale halt 10 min an der Luft bevor sie wieder ihre langen tauchgänge machen. Zu nah ist halt auch gefährlich fürs Boot irgendwann... 😅 Gab da ja auch schon unglück. Ist auf jeden Fall nen supererlebniss besonders in Norwegen wette ich wars hammer.
Ich finde es gut, dass du deinen Beitrag direkt drauf ausrichtest, ob und wann Wahlewatching nachhaltig ist. Tiere in freier Wildbahn zu beobachten, ist schon mal besser als die Tiere einzusperren. Ich denke, dass alles ok ist, solange die Tiere niemals gezwungen werden was zu tun oder bedrängt werden. Dass es konkrete Regeln gibt, ist es gut, umso besser, wenn sch Organisationen zur EInhaltungg dieser Regeln verpflichten und das auch offen kommunizieren. Deine Aufnahmen finde ich übrigens superspannend, auch wenn sie weit weg sind.
Ja das stimmt leider weit weg aber Wale sind auf jeden fall spannend. Villeicht mach ich allgemein mal nen vidoe zum allgemein nachhaltig reisen mit nen paar Tipps kann man doch um einiges nachhaltiger reisen. Bsp. Keine Souvenirs kaufen die kommen oft aus China und haben nen Mega impact oder eben einheimische essen und dann hoch nicht Himbeermarmelade oder deutsches Bier trinken... 😅 So als Beispiel ☺️👍 vielen dank für dienen Besuch und deinen Kommentar. Amazing trip and magnificent whales and dolphins… birds too! I’m very happy to learn about sustainable whale watching. The guides are skilled and in tune with the whales. Great to see that you’re in a pretty small boat as well. There are killer whales in Puget Sound and lots of discussion about whale watching and how close the boats get… so far we haven’t taken a tour… now I know more of what to look for. I’m happy to learn about the Azores and Pico Island! 😄👌👍👍🐳🐳🐋🐋

Ja in jedem Fall lohnt sich 👍😊 aber man sollte schon ne Weile gehen sonst lohnt der flug dann doch nicht. Ist schon weit und meistens musst du umsteigen und 2*fliegen. Grüße

Ich Grüße Dich, Wale mal aus der Nähe sehen, das ist natürlich etwas Besonderes. Gut Dokumentiert. Das war sicher ein super Erlebnis, euer Urlaub. Sehr interessant. Schön das mal zu sehen. Gerne habe ich mir das ganze Video angeschaut. Bei so etwas besonderem hätte ich mir nur die 4K Qualität, mit 60 FPS gewünscht. Trotzdem Daumen Hoch Nr. 36 ist von mir. Gruß Rainer
60 fps, 120 fps in 4k ist für mich ein Wunschtraum hab leider keine 5000 Euro rumliegen. In 4k selbst kann ich nicht hochladen da braucht man x subscriber die fehlen mir. Aber downsacled 4k auf 1080 nach TH-cam Kompression macht kein Unterschied zu 4k in 4k hochgeladen in meiner Ansicht. Oder 1080 upscaled auf 4k erkennt am Ende auch niemand mehr als 1080. Oder was meinst du mit 4k hätte dir besser gefallen.
@@BackpackerScience Halt so wie ich sie hochlade. Dauert ca. 1,5 Std. Ich filme in 4K, lade in 4K Hoch und TH-cam zeigt dann auch 4K an. Wenn man mit 50, oder 60 Fps filmt, zeigt es TH-cam auch an. Man sieht auch den Unterschied. Inzwischen habe ich auch einen 28" Monitor in 4K. Hat keine 300,- € gekostet. Meine Gopro 10 mit 4K hat keine 400,- € gekostet. Für mich hat sich das gelohnt. Es gibt viele Natur Videos, auch mit Wahlen, Eisbergen in 4K, teilweise schon in 8K. Wenn man sich die anschaut, möchte man gar nicht aufhören zu schauen. Die Brillanz, die Schärfe und die Farben sind gigantisch. Es sollte ja auch nur ein Tipp sein. Ich filme seit 2015 schon in 4K. Jetzt ist eine Drohne, mit 1" Objektiv und 4K dazu gekommen. Trotz allem war Dein Video sehenswert. Gruß Rainer

Hallo, ja das verstehe ich auch nicht so richtig, scheint so als ob TH-cam seit dem 1en short, das nicht die passenden tumbails zum Thema zeigt die Videos unterdrückt und Habs am Freitag hochgeladen das war glaub auch nicht optimal. Mal sehen wies nächste ist. Aber tatsächlich geht mir das bei vielen Videos so. Auch wenn ich massiv Zeit für die seo und das Video investiere ich spreche jetzt von 40 Arbeitsstunden und mehr bekomme ich am Ende 70 watchtime hours und wenig Aufrufe. Falls du nen tip hast gerne her damit 😁👌

Schön erklärt, aber vor allem Respekt für die Aufnahmen mit 135mm! Hab eine Tour auf Teneriffa gemacht und mit meinem 24-105 kaum verwertbares Material aufgenommen 😅

Hallo, tatsächlich hätte ich die gyro stabilisierung der Kamera verwenden sollen wusste aber nicht wie das geht damals. Hab ja auch in 130fps gefilmt dann geht das tatsächlich gut in Zeitlupe mit dem wackeln und hab auch ordentlich Ausschuss gehabt. War tatsächlich richtig schwierig Kamera aus der tüte zu holen und wieder reinstecken da kamen immer wieder schwälle von Wasser an Bord... Und ist ja nicht wasserdicht XD... Aber hat gut geklappt war nen hammer Erlebnis. Gerne kann ich mal nen video machen zum stabil Filmen, hab ja keine stabilisierung in der Kamera die Linse hat das zwar schon aber kein Vergleich mit Ibis. Demnach musst ich da schon lernen wie man die Kamera hält etc. Und hab auf dem Boot so nen speziellen schnridersitz angewendet der vom Militär für schießen aus dem Auto verwendet wird mit dem sitzt man auch aufm Boot recht stabil. Hallo das ist schade tatsächlich haben wir 3 tge gewartet und den besten Tag mit "wenig" Seegang genommen. Ich bin ziemlich sekrankeits resistent, waren auf nem anderen Boot 🛥 unterwegs das geändert hat und allen ei schließlich capitän und boots Männer haben sich über die Reling erleichtert und ich bin zwar bei jedem Schritt fast hingefallen wegen dem starken schaukeln aber mir ging blenden xD... Also bin ich der schlechteste um sowas beurteilen zu können. Aber hab gehört ne vomex vorher und dann ist das keine Sache. Sonst gins allen auf dem Boot gut. 😊 👌 Wie ist das bei dir wirst du schnell seekrank?

Wichtiges Thema, vielerorts kommt es immer noch zu Unfällen mit Booten und einer extremen Lärmbelästigung für die Tiere. Weisst du übrigens woher man die Tiefe der Jagt von Pottwalen kennt, man hat inder Vergangenheit Wale gefunden die sich in Tiefseekabeln verfangen haben Beste Grüße Markus
Soweit ich als Biologe weiß sind die tiefen per Daten logger und Sender ermittelt worden. Von Walen die sich in tiefseekabeln verheddert haben hab ich noch nichtsgehört. Und was ich so vom wissenschaftlichem tauchen im Studium mitbekommen habe werden tote Sachen am Meeresgrund schnell verwertet. Demnach wäre das nen großer Zufall nen verhedderten Wal zu finden. Aber was ich weiß dass man Wale und deren gesäge mittels unterwasser Glasfaserkabeln Orten und aufnehmen kann . Ja das mit den Motoren Geräuschen ist korrekt da geht's aber ehr um große von containerschiffen soweit ich weiß. Grüße 😊
