    Nice video again. Always nice to hear your opinion on multiple printers in one go! The "ghosting" effect of the CR-10 S5 can be dimmed / gotten rid of, by tweaking the "jerk" settings in the firmware. I have put them on 1/8 th of the original setting in the configuration.h file and quality has gone up significantly. Print time estimation of S3D however, is no longer accurate and the printer takes approx. 1.3 times longer to print. But still, as I see it, a 500x500x500 mm printer should not be build in the i3 kind of frame / mechanics. Moving such a large platform can't win it from the "moving-the-printhead-only" approach and all kind of inertia artifacts start to get introduced into the prints. But ... the CR-10 S5 still is one of my favorites too! Much bang for your buck! Thanks and best regards for 2018!

    • @Bizill75
      @Bizill75 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      1st thing I though was the jerk settings. I've yet to mess with mine on my CR-10. I use Simplify 3-d. Where do we change jerk settings, at the control box interface or some sort of firmware reprogramming? My ghosting is killing me.

    • @MakerFarmNL
      @MakerFarmNL 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      See reprap.org/wiki/G-code. It can be done with M205 using the console of S3D or Repetier / Slic3r etc. You might have to use M501 to read and M500 to store parameters in the eeprom afterwards (or else put the M205 command into the start script), but I don't know if the jerk settings are in the set of parameters that get stored into eeprom this way, so I decided to do it directly in the CONFIGURATION.H file of the firmware.

    • @Bizill75
      @Bizill75 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've got a Pi/Putty so I should be able to program as you've done. Time to find a "how to"!

    • @ModelLights
      @ModelLights 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Looking at things and thinking it through, it probably is the jerk of the machine. As the nozzle is drawing, the jerk in from the porthole edge, and then oscillates several times on the hull after. Longer bars, larger frame means more mass, but lowered total stiffness due to the greater leverage against itself. At first I was thinking orient the prints different ways and work out which axis and what is oscillating. But just looking back at the larger frame, you can see it easily. Go to around 16:40 and look at the frame. The Z axis is 2040, so stiff in the X direction, but looks like it's still only 20mm thick in the Y direction. Larger Z axis frame, working against basically the same Z axis to side frame braces. And looking at the video he just carried the printer by the Z axis frames not supported from below, the braces might even be a little loose even being gentle with it.. The front and back braces to the top corners to stiffen this part of the frame should eliminate most of the problem mechanically without adjusting settings. One of the early mods I will be doing to my regular size CR-10, it's obvious they're a good idea just looking at the frame, and even more so on the larger version.

    I think you did a great job and the individual sample prints nailed it for me. You can talk all day about variations in the prints but the details were in the different printers creations.Saved me hours on model search, technical abilities and limitations, cost, pros/cons, visual machine accuracy.

    Let me start by saying I appreciate the "actual" info instead of the usual Top 10 style videos with horrible background music and robot voices. I am looking at buying my first 3d printer, would love to build one but probably wont have time, I would like to have a printer that prints ABS, TPU, and Nylon well. Not really sure on budget yet, I am currently using/learning DesignSpark Mechanical and would like recommendations on a printer with at least 300x300x300 and an easy to learn slicing software
    Thanks and keep up the awesome content

      i have an ender 3, it has only 220x220 build volume tho, and it works with cura 3.5.1/3.6
      i dont know if its a problem with my printer settings, but for some reason cura 3.6 heats the bed, then the nozzle which takes longer, and 3.5.1 heats both at the same time, but 3.6 has gyroid infill

    Awesome video, thanks. I'm having an Ultimaker 2, CR-10 and CR-10s. Recently I got an Anet A8 just because I wanted to build a printer from scratch. The first print, after my build was complete, blew my mind. The results are stunning as you show in the video. Good results do not require expensive printers. Looking forward for the slicer settings.

    It was very informative to see the number of hours of experience you have with each machine. I wish more reviewers would do that. I like that you have actual informed opinions and you expressed them clearly without wasting any time. Now, if I can look forward to a review of an Ender 2 from you, I'll be more prepared to make a purchase decision in the next few months.

    Yet another great video in the bag! Kudos on all your success. The editing is so fine tuned I found myself unable to use shortcuts and jump around for fear of missing out on crucial info about the 3-D printing experience which I seek. Also the jokes and funny edits are short, to the point, and don't detract from the video. I appreciate the comedy in your videos in what could otherwise be a dry subject. I wish much continued success for your future.

    As always, you have such a great Quality Video, and still convey the info I need. Keep it up! I do have one suggestion though, your RC videos seem to be getting a lot of success, so what if you tried to completely 3D print a massive working Drone or a massive RC-Style Car?! :) I believe that you have enough 3d printers that if you used them all at once, you would be able to do it in a reasonable amount of time. Thank you!

Something as simple as putting links to which times are reviewing which printers in the comments is a small thing that goes a long way for me. Not to mention that in the comments you put a quick version of your opinions in case someone was still undecided. Great video, great channel, subscribed.

    The one thing about showing 3d prints is that even they can be fine tuned when you see what issue each one is having. For example if one printer has loose lines it might be something as simple as tightening the belts to create a better quality print, or even a different slicer. I love the vids man! I just hope people realize that all printers can be tuned and eventually print identical looking parts. It's a mixture of love and time with each one)

    Upgrade tip: If you pick a somewhat bigger and thicker sheet of glas that overlaps the heat bed, there's no real issue in printing up to 250x250 in X and Y direction on the A8. Only the locking latch of the heat bed's connector required grinding a little dent into the lower side of the glass, which is bog standard window glass, no borosilicate. Be careful to not get pretensioned glass, that will shatter on the first scratch, though. Just make sure the glass isn't too thin, some 5 to 6mm will do very well. The sheet of 250x250x5 I got cost 3 quid at my local glazier's. Works a treat. To be on the safe side, preheat the heat bed before the print fore maybe 5 minutes, and bob's your auntie. I check it with my infrared thermometer. Once the glass surface has the set temperature, I start the print. I only used it with PLA so far, but with it, I had no issue whatsoever.

    Great to see a quality rundown of so many 3d printers in one video; makes it a lot easier as someone who's considering buying a printer to see how they compare. That can be difficult watching individual reviews of fifteen printers by as many different youtubers. Also, where's that awesome compilation music from?

    Currently printing witha cr-10s5 and it has been running non stop for 2 months with no issues. the build volume is HUGE, and it takes a long time to warm up the print bed, i usually set the heat to 70 degrees and leave it for 30 minutes to fully warm the full bed before printing at a 60 degree bed temp. Much better adhesion that way.

    Still totally relevant. My CR10S caught on fire and I use it for work so I was going to check out other choices ... but ALL the main review sites just try to push top dollar machines exclusively for no functional benefit. After your comparative review I decided to just pick up another CR10S and use the old one for parts. Just going to swap out the 12V MOSFET heater for a 120V SSRelay. Keep the fact based reports coming!
