Hi guys welcome to my channel, my name is Doc Rome, I am a Urologist in the Philippines and I do vlogs all about medicine and my life as a doctor.
This is the 8th episode of our podcast where we talk about everything in medicine from premed to the medical specialties. For this podcast we are gonna talk about everything you need to know if you want to become a MILITARY DOCTOR in the Philippines.
Our guest for today is Dr. Anton Pescador Jr. who is a graduate of INTERNAL MEDICINE at the V. Luna Medical Center and also a Captain in the Philippine Military, he is currently an Endocrinology Fellow at St. Lukes Medical Center.

I'm just finishing med school and thinking if worth it ba na dito sa pinas mag continue ng studies. I really love the military lifestyleeeeee at lalo na pag nadedeploy sa random rural areassss kaya I initially want to go abroad para madeploy sa random countries at wars.

I'm currently a clerk. Kumusta naman po ang PGI in V. Luna ngayong pandemic? Isa din po sa ina eye ko ang maging military doctor.
Gaano po kahirap mag apply for PGI sa VLuna po?
Psychiatry residency naman po Doc ang i feature nyo. konti pa lang po ang nakakaalam na may Psychiatrist pala sa pilipinas at kung ano ano ba talaga ang mga duties at responsibility nila.

Hi doc, aspiring military MD here, just wanted to ask what kinds of military schooling can doctors in the AFP attend?
Hello! The AFP particularly VLuna Medical Center, offers residency programs including general surgery, anesthesia, pediatrics and the like. In addition, active duty medical corps officers can qualify for non-medical schoolings like airborne, scout ranger, aeromed, dive surgeon etc. In addition, there are career schoolings, (basic, advance, GSC) that are required for promotion which augments the medical corps officer's leadership, management and administrative skills.

After internship, pwede po ba mag apply na General Practitioner sa V. Luna? Mag undergo rin ba ng training as a military doctor or pang residents lang po yung military training? Thank you.
Hi Doc advantage po ba yung nag Advance ROTC during undergrad at currently P2LT pag nag apply ng PGI or residency sa V.Luna? How about pag Commissioned Officer ka na sa AFP Reseve Force either through Advance ROTC or as Licensed professional such as RN or RPT prior entering med school, exempted ka na ba sa nabanggit na Military Training in a Technical Field at diretso residency na? Salamat

actually kailangan mong mag leave or mag resign before pursuing medicine. Like one of our IM Resident she used to be a Military Nurse (NURSE CORPS) she left the service then after becomming a Lisence Physician she reentered the Service

Hello doc, I would like to ask if there are other institution outside metro manila that offers military doctor training/residency? Particularly in Visayas. Thank you po doc
Most of our Military Doctors have their residency at V Luna… There are few who are allowed to take their residency training outside V Luna.. Usually mga training that is not available in V Luna they allow them to have their residency outside V Luna… Some examples are Rehab Medicine, Plastic Surgery, Dermatology etc.. During Subspecialty Training they usually send Military Doctors in other institutions that offer the chosen Subspecialty…

hellooo! i'd like to share lang may opinion for this, as i am a shs graduate na nag-take ng humss and proceeded to take a premed course ngayong college.
okay lang mag-take ng kahit anong strand sa shs, even if hindi iyon aligned sa kukunin mong college program BUT it still depends sa patakaran ng school kasi may iba na if you want to take premed, dapat stem graduate ka. in my case, ni-recommend sa akin ng registrar na mag-stem na lang since nalaman nila during my enrollment na magta-take ako ng premed pero hindi naman required. still, nag-humss pa rin ako.
sa experience ko, kapag gusto mo mag-doctor, mas okay na mag-take ng stem kasi mas immersed talaga sila sa mga life sciences-unlike humss na social sciences. malaki rin kasi advantage ng stem graduates kapag magta-take ng premed course kasi may mga basics na sila kahit papano sa biology, chemistry, etc. pero kaya pa rin naman kahit humss, mangangapa nga lang siguro lalo na kapag ang premed is biology, nursing, medtech, and mga ganun. and with hardwork naman, i believe makakaya mo 'yun. ayun lang. sana nakatulong somehow.
