Hi. Just so you know. The smart remote only uses OCUSYNC 2.0. So even if the Air2S has OCUSYNC 3.0 it is only working on the 2.0 bandwidth when the smart remote is connected. So you will have the same range on both the Air 2S and the Mavic Air 2 when using the smart remote.
NINE TO: It is the VIDEO transmission that was being checked which is the Ocusync 2.0 and 3.0. Yes the remotes are the same, but that is for telemetry of the drone (movements).
Gary: SKYDIO 2 has the worst transmission range, but it also has the best tracking in the industry. SKYDIO 2 could never do the test shown here as the range would cut out quickly. This is why SKYDIO 2 has the BEACON.... you'd have to place the BEACON on or in the JEEP for it to work.
O3 is used for video transmission only on the A2S, O2 is for RC transmission on both the MA2 & A2S. That is the reason why they both use the same controller, and the reason why the Smart Controller works for both when it comes to RC transmission. It is the quad antennas that make up a big difference with between the O2 RC transmission with the two drones. Just check the specs.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 It has to, as it is the same controller used by the Mini 2, the Air 2, and the Air 2S. They all use O2 for RC transmission, and that applies to the Smart Controller. Probably due to its 30dbm transmitter and 2 more antennas.. The MA2 is 26dbm. Which translates into 400 miliwatts vs 1000 miliwatts on the A2S. Which cuts into air time of course. My question is does the A2S reduce power when signal is strong? They do that on our cell phones and should be able to on the A2S. I know it's not but 3 min difference but sometimes a couple extra min flight time gets the footage vs coming home and going back to find the target is gone!

I have both of these actually they’re both great drones however when using active tracking on the mavic air 2s I found it to be more aggressive than with the mavic air 2 the extra two sensors on the mavic air 2s really made a difference when dogging tree branches and other obstacles. But they both do very well. I actually get a longer flight time with the mavic air 2 than I do with the mavic air 2s I guess the larger sensor and extra sensors use a little bit more power. But nonetheless both of them are very good drones. I also have the mini 2 mini 3 and mini 3 pro which are fantastic little drones as well. Now my next goal is to start collecting the mavic 3 series. You sneaky slidelanding captain 😂 Nelson was so close. He should definitely get at least a captain in law drone sticker. You have once more given us a very useful info while keeping the humor in the video. Keep it up! 🔝🔝🔝
The way that active Track 4 works was way smoother than AT 3... yeah, very nice. One thing that would be interesting to know is where is the AT computed, on the drone or the controller? Seems that either the Drone makes a difference , so if it is done in the controller, the drone must affect it somehow. Both were flown with the SC. I have noticed on many drones that much of the smart modes, like AT, are computed on the controller and not the actual drone itself. Oh, and to another point, as expected, there newer obstacle avoidance is better. That was also nice to see. Thanks again Steve.
Hi Steve I purchased the Air2S and was hoping it would follow my dog with the active track option but I will only recognise humans, cards and buildings, is there a way of getting it to follow my puppy? Settings? Or something I can attach to my dog?
Nope. Air 2S is only humans and cars for tracking. Drones can't follow animals due to how animals respond and it is illegal in most countries. Some HUBSAN drones, like their MINI drones are supposed to be able to recognize pets and track them but it is limited.
In your opinion is it worth upgrading to the Air 2s if i already have the Air 2? I mainly use mine for fun and to get some shots, nothing professional.
Oh ,my fault to say that. Its just new to me. By the way thank you so much for all the videos you made that i always watched. Its giving me an ideas how to handle those things
What I don't understand about that first test that you performed is the fact that you haven't tracking you in the truck so who cares what the signal is back to the transmitter? It's tracking the truck would it is right below it so the signal back to the transmitter is a moot point. So you're not really testing anything but the fact that it can track you independent of the transmitter which is normal
Yikes! You need your morning coffee. Let me explain what you missed. If you track an item (person or vehicle) and you place the remote control in one spot, then all DJI products can only track as long as they have communication back to the controller. So in this case the video signal going back to the controller had to go through the school and most drones on the market can not do that. In addition, the drone has to track and not lose the item tracked or crash into an object. Make sense now?
Both are just modes of over exposing the image so that you can see detail in the shadows. HDR is more North American and HLG is more British... (both for display on TV sets).
There have been tests that show the video feed on the smart controller is not as good as the video feed on the regular controller when flying the Air 2s
Super entertaining video as always Steve! Uploading videos on TH-cam is not easy... I appreciate your and Nelson's hard work! Almost in every video you bring a smile on our face! Keep it up!!! :)
Captain Drone, nice fun test comparison, what were the height differences? The Air 2 seems to be lower in it's flight 4:28 - 34 VS Air 2S 9:06 - 12, where signal loss occurred? Look like the difference were in the flights heights of the two drones behind the school.
Both started at 6 meters. The 2S stayed at that height throughout. My 2 dipped twice by about 1.5 meters but always returned. I suspect that as Steve moved, the 2 did not follow directly behind and it say the tops of the light standards and computed a path under them.
Love these videos ❤️ I got myself an air 2s and my son got the air 2 Both drones are excellent but for me, Obstacle avoidance is key. I'll be taking my air 2s out to Folsom lake and Avery's Pond in Northern California
I give away my parrot to my Brother in law and ordered a Mavic mini 2 this morning...can't wait for the arrive to do races too with him to beat the poor old parrot😂 thank you for the idea Captain👍
not much difference in the images (video) on both drones. 3.0 is obviously a lil better than 2.0. I agreed with you 100% when you did the A2S review that it's way over priced. I wouldn't pay for the upgrade from A2 to A2S unless the price drops. I hope the DJI Mini 3 isn't as much as A2S when it comes out this year, Photos & videos from both drone are awesome. Another one well done Captain Steve,👍😀 Geriatric mode, LOL
Very entertaining video you have here CAPTAIN DRONE! Impressive drone shots at 6:35, 11:47, and 1:10 Thank you so much for all your effort to share with us your flight and your great work! I hope more drone pilots will see this work and get inspired to share their flights too here on TH-cam. I am personally looking forward to seeing more of your fantastic work.
Wonder how reception is if you use your smart controller with ocusync 2 with the Air S2, guys didn’t find out the effects of ocusync 2 on the ocusync 3 system on S2, just a thought.
Does the addition attenna built into the S2 help on ocusync 2.0 and S3 has the newer active track 4 I believe. Have have the 2 and the S2 I fly with the smart controller, I haven’t seen a difference between either drone, but I have not yet used the ocusync 3.0 controller that comes with the drone had a need, I love the smart controller.
I wonder if you can help, I was out walking few weeks back and found a mavic air 2, I stayed at the location with it for about an hour waiting for whoever owns it to find it but no-one came so I brought it home and reported the location to the police. Is there anyway of locating the owner or failing that resetting the drone. Thanks
What country was this? If in Canada there should be a registration number on the drone placed there by the owner so that the drone can be returned just by contacting Transport Canada. If in the USA, again their should be a registration number on the drone for the same purpose.
What a complex you have to fly around there. Weren’t you saying they were putting in a skatepark last year? That will make a cool place to test some of there cars when you get them. Not to mention the longer ponds to try out some cool boats etc. But back too business, that new dji system for the air2s is epic. Followed you like it was on rails and didn’t lose signal once. I love that system
With the Pandemic, the 8 or sports fields are all empty and the school isn't open on the weekends. So we get lots of room to fly without having to worry about overflights for much longer periods in the day. With the reopening starting, we will have to revert to early morning flights again..... but it's a welcome trade off :)
@@nelsonprivateer7128 thanks Nelson I’m with you on that. It’s starting to normalize a bit more out west on Vancouver Island too. I don’t think we are ready for hug day like Bonnie Henry has suggested but things are getting better. Speaking of better how has that new 3D printer been treating you? I know you had said it was a way better machine than the one you had. Have you been printing a bunch of different parts?
Great video guys! Looked like lots of fun! Regardless of the smart remote being 2.0, it really did show the transmission power of each drone in their native format. More fun than scientific!!
It was a fun video, nothing technical. Now plenty of people get confused with the 2.0 in the controller and thinking that makes a difference, however as seen in the fun test, the AIR2S had more penetration and better tracking using the same controller. Also, check the specs on the remote that comes with the Air2s, it is also ocusync 2.0 but the drone is ocusync 3.0.
@@romanmechetnerful Ocusync is somewhat SOFTWARE based and needs to be in the drone more than the remote (in simple terms it takes the video at source and compresses it into the stream of telemetry sent back to the controller while jumping channels).
Okay I’m going to put this out there and I hope you capitalize on it. Imagine this. You do a DJI Chase. You put a DJI drone up and this is your lead drone that you are controlling. Now put another DJI drone up and lock it on drone one to active track drone one that you fly. Now put another DJI drone up and lock it on drone number two for active track. Now put the fourth DJI drone up and lock it on drone number three for active track. Now fly the first drone and have a trail of drones flying by you only controlling one. DJI will be impressed. Nobody has done it yet. You are welcome. From Tony Hayes. 😁
Thats for the suggestion but it would only work In sci-fi films. In reality, nope for the simple reason DJI Active track can not track drones, rc cars, dogs, cats and a million other things, as well as quickly change height as objects do.
I wish they add 8k 24fps for cinematic experienc and upgrade battery to 1 hours flying for mavic 3 and add a bigger sensor for the camera. I can't wait for mavic 3 to see what dji do with this new drone 😃
The smart controller is only rated for OcuSync 2. The Air 2S is backward compatible and works with the smart controller, but will not work with the level 3 standard. I know you like the smart controller, but it does show its age and is not “future proof” as referenced in another vlog.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 you are right. I stand corrected. Appears that the outgoing signal is based on version 2, the incoming (from the drone) on 3. Aside from range the image “smoothness” appears to be better.
Hell no!!!! DJI rarely if ever gives older model drones the same features as newer model drones because it stops people from then buying the newer model drones.
Captain drone, I love your videos, but I hate the commercials. I got the Air 2 not long ago, Should I sell it and get an Air 2s?
Have me a mini 2 full bundle coming in the next few days....how can I get me some stickers??? Great video as always...love ur collection...so wanna try some fpv
Stickers may be available later this year
You sneaky slidelanding captain 😂
Nelson was so close. He should definitely get at least a captain in law drone sticker.
You have once more given us a very useful info while keeping the humor in the video. Keep it up! 🔝🔝🔝
Steve changed the landing rules on the fly (literally). In his words "I knew you always land slowly....". I wanted to say "You mean safely".... :)
All video signal and active track is done in the brains of the drone.
Hi Steve
I purchased the Air2S and was hoping it would follow my dog with the active track option but I will only recognise humans, cards and buildings, is there a way of getting it to follow my puppy?
Nope. Wait for the Air3 or get yourself the EVO Lite+
Nice flight with your drone. I got my first fpv drone which is dji spark. I love the follow me mode same with that mavic air 2
Oh ,my fault to say that. Its just new to me. By the way thank you so much for all the videos you made that i always watched. Its giving me an ideas how to handle those things
Thanks for all your vids mate
Fun comparison video! Great technology on display! Thanks Cap’n!
Can you tell me the difference between the HDR mode on the Mavic Air 2 and the HLG mode on the Air 2S?
Both are just modes of over exposing the image so that you can see detail in the shadows. HDR is more North American and HLG is more British... (both for display on TV sets).
There have been tests that show the video feed on the smart controller is not as good as the video feed on the regular controller when flying the Air 2s
Honestly it should not matter at all. Whoever did such a test may have misunderstood how everything works.
Super entertaining video as always Steve!
Uploading videos on TH-cam is not easy...
I appreciate your and Nelson's hard work!
Almost in every video you bring a smile on our face!
Keep it up!!!
:)
Much appreciated!
Always enjoy your videos with Nelson. How's his 3d printed drone going.
I have been working on dialling in new materials and doing more mundane prints of late. Not to mention spring/summer is flying/ sailing season.
@@nelsonprivateer7128 Thanks Nelson, I appreciated your quick response, you deserve a captain drone sticker! 😎
Outstanding Steve. I loved this video buddy 👍😀
Love these videos ❤️ I got myself an air 2s and my son got the air 2
Both drones are excellent but for me, Obstacle avoidance is key.
I'll be taking my air 2s out to Folsom lake and Avery's Pond in Northern California
Hi! I have enjoyed this and I think that drones should give us this pleasures, thanks capt.
I give away my parrot to my Brother in law and ordered a Mavic mini 2 this morning...can't wait for the arrive to do races too with him to beat the poor old parrot😂 thank you for the idea Captain👍
Nice to see you again Mr. Nelson! You look like Bill Pullman today!
I'll that name to my celebrity impersonator resume...
Great informative and fun video Steve. Great job.
I am very pleased with my upgrade.
Hallo Steve..,apa kabar..? Saya suka video anda.. saya dari Indonesia.., salam kenal dan persahabatan.. Good luck untuk anda, Steve.. salam sukses..
Great review. The S was better transmission and following 👍👍✌️
It was very funny to watch the review for following mode. My grandmother is faster in reactions than DJI Air. Great work anyway! Funny intro!
not much difference in the images (video) on both drones.
Nice video as usual. Enjoyed having fun with you guys. Loved the comparison
And the Winner is both of you because you had fun doing it.
I truly see you building your own Quad, The Captain Drones for him and Her. Tickty Boo m8t 💢🏴💢
Great comparison.. Thanks for the video..
Great video can't wait to get my mavic air 2 out again...😁
No skatepark planned here... they'd have trouble keeping the kids in class :-)
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 that is interesting, why didn't DJI put Occusync 3 into the remote with Air2S, is there no noticeable difference?
@@romanmechetnerful Ocusync is somewhat SOFTWARE based and needs to be in the drone more than the remote (in simple terms it takes the video at source and compresses it into the stream of telemetry sent back to the controller while jumping channels).
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 that makes sense, drone moves around MUCH more than the controller.
A really entertaining video. Thank you 👍
The drone had no problem but your car was going an entire hair raising 1mph. 😂
2S overall hands down the best. The other sucks.
I wait for mavic 3 and skip air 2s. I really happy with my air 2 and i save my money for mavic 3 with big upgrade. 😉
I wish they add 8k 24fps for cinematic experienc and upgrade battery to 1 hours flying for mavic 3 and add a bigger sensor for the camera. I can't wait for mavic 3 to see what dji do with this new drone 😃
GERIATRIC mode!!!! lol
The smart controller is only rated for OcuSync 2. The Air 2S is backward compatible and works with the smart controller, but will not work with the level 3 standard. I know you like the smart controller, but it does show its age and is not “future proof” as referenced in another vlog.
Check out the controller that comes with the AIR2S... check the specs, it as well is Ocusync 2.0
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 you are right. I stand corrected. Appears that the outgoing signal is based on version 2, the incoming (from the drone) on 3. Aside from range the image “smoothness” appears to be better.
Both drones are perfect!
Would it be that DJI is confusing the whole world with their crazy naming ?
Ohhh, I wish you had thrown the Evo 2 in this battle!!!!!
Maybe next time.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Please do. She's probably my next purchase.
That intro was 2 funny or Mavic 2 funny or air 2 Mavic funny...........uhhhhhh good video!!!
Thanks for this fun vid. That's what we need these days. And uh great test too. Greet from The Netherlands. 🖐🖐🖐🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱
Our pleasure!
Si much fun 😜. I like it 😛.
I watched your total video. 🤩
Go like that. Great. ☀️☀️☀️
Do you think DJI will eventually release a software update for the Mavic Air 2 to give it Ocusync 3.0 and Active Track 4.0????
Hell no!!!! DJI rarely if ever gives older model drones the same features as newer model drones because it stops people from then buying the newer model drones.
Awesome Race, and Awesome Video. Thank you for the comparison!
What program do you use for video editing?
Check below each video for the answer to that question
Captain drone, I love your videos, but I hate the commercials. If there's more than one commercial possibly two commercials, I am going to stop watching the videos, because it's so aggravating it raises my blood pressure.
Absolutely loved the outtakes at the beginning. Again my preference if you're comparing drones would be to see side by side video of the same thing.
Also, I would love to see your post processing, video editing, to get an idea of what it takes to put a video together using drone footage.
Thanks again I know it takes time your dedication is admirable.
The commercials are a TH-cam thing based on where you live in the world and the cookies on your computer. If you get plenty of commercials/ads, it could be because people think you are a potential customer.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 if you have alternative ways to view your videos, your website, or other venues please mention them on your channel. A commercial every 30 seconds interrupting the video that you are displaying is beyond annoying. If I knew of a way to complain to TH-cam, I would do it. They are losing viewers by inundating them with commercials. It's unacceptable.
The commercials are auto-inserted by TH-cam. It applies to anyone who uploads to TH-cam. That is how they fund their business. Users can subscribe to TH-cam premium for a fee and this removes all commercials that are auto embedded. You will see that the Captain never hawks services or products IN his video (Ie. Today's video is sponsored by.....). If he did, you could complain about that. But the your complaint here is about youtube as a platform, and not something the Captain has any control over.
@@mikebrach5412 Oh, it is only going to get worse. TH-camrs have zero controller anymore. If you post a video on youtube of yourself eating breakfast for 15 mins, it would have ads all over it.
@@nelsonprivateer7128 nelson, thanks for your reply, always enjoy seeing you on the videos with steve, Captain drone. Yes I am aware my beef is with youtube, but I really don't know how else to complain to TH-cam. I assume because it's Google there are flags that when someone complains about their product they know about it. I believe there are enough users now that are dropping TH-cam because they have other things to do. If you or Steve ever develop a website or another forum in which the videos are posted, please be sure and let the subscribers know so we can use that forum instead of TH-cam, as it has become too commercialized. Thanks again for your reply.
This was a great and fun testing!!!!
Ha ha, great fun intro, guys. The actual test was a useful demonstration for anyone thinking of upgrading. Even so, I'm going to hang on to my Air 2 and pension pennies until they release a dedicated C2 class machine.👍😎
awsome captain. and hello again nelson.
Ps. In regards to my previous comment you can find the info on that in the DJI website
Again, I think you are mixing up what OCUSYNC is exactly for and confusing it with the control of the drone which was not what this test was about.
Thoroughly enjoyed the race......😂😂😂
I should work at doing this!!!
Step 1: Know what drone you have. This way, if someone asks you, you can tell them without a blooper reel.
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS MAN!!!
