      It is a rip off. Pay the money to go via their visitor centre in the hope you buy overpriced items from their shop.

      @@AndyFinn-j3q I don’t dispute that the national trust are cashing in, but my point was that ‘tourists ripped off in Northern Ireland!’ is a generic statement about NI the place and not specific to the causeway.

    We are both old age pensioners in our eighties, my friend disabled and using a rotolator, we were charged £42.00p for visiting sea world in Blackpool, no discounts for old age pensioners, or disabled. Definitely not worth it, Winifred Thompson. Northern Ireland.

    The Giants Causeway underwhelming because you had to share it with so many other people? You mean all the tourists like yourselves? 🤣

  • @Britdetector

    I can remember back in the 1950' and even up to the 1970's where it was so dark on that road (it was a main road in those days), you had to put your headlights on.
    Also, in those days ALL thee tourist places like Dunluce Castle, the Giants Causeway, Lough Neagh (with its 365 islands, one for each day of the year ), Celtic churches, the Caŕick Ropte Bridge (been over that too, many times ) etc etc etc, were ALL free to park and free tò visit.
    In those days you could go inside Dunluce Castle, including crossing a bridge to the piece that's sits on an out crop of rock, which has a hole in the floor so a boat could bring provisions if under siege, as a tunnel comes underneath. I've also been in that tunnel (when the tide was out). Did you know the kitchens of Dunnluce Castle fell into the sea during a violent storm, killing all the kitchen staff.
    In Portrush and Coleraine, you have Morrelli's Italian Ice Crem who have had their family business in NI since before WWII, and is still owned by the Morrelli's !

    Be careful with Rosie. At the moment there is a big issue with Blue-Green Algae in the waterways and some of the beaches, which is fatal to dogs. The DAERA website should give you up to date information on where it is at the minute.

Another great spot is Newcastle, Co Down for the Mourne Mountains. Also, a brilliant day out for the kids, W5 in the Titanic Quarter in Belfast - a brilliant educational science museum. Very interactive, plus you can see where the Titanic was built right outside.

      @@Touringwiththekidsdefinately try Newcastle. Tye mountains sweep right down to the sea there and as most coastal towns there are amusements for the kids. Beach is not as nice as Portrush and parking may be a problem. Just outside the town is a fabulous forest park so hubby will be happy and the kids will have lots of open spaces to play games. Hope your wee dog has recovered
      PS. For anyone visiting NI we do not have global warming our summers do not get that warm and you could have 4 seasons in a day. Always always have wet weather gear handy as you don’t get to be this green with a hot and dry climate

    Hi, Glad that you are enjoying Nothern Ireland, The Motor home stop in Portrush is always busy but is much cheaper than campsites, I arrived yesterday morning and it wasn't too busy but when I was leaving at about 2 this afternoon it was crazy with motorhomes parked on the grass even on the other side of the road, The other good point for me was the pay machine was out of order and no other way to pay, so free night for us, Enjoy the rest of your trip.

    What an interesting, educational and enlightening video this week ... points of interest
    - Rick busting a move early on
    - We have something similar here in Dunedin NZ with rock formations called the organ pipes
    - Genealogy is always surprising and it's worth doing a DNA test. My brother has been doing Genealogy for around 50 years, and it is fun to find out you are related to english royalty. With a maiden name like 'Grant' we are obviously of Scottish, English, and love to say it Rick, IRISH decent!! I visited Ireland a few years ago now, and absolutely loved it.
    - Love that you have those Scandinavian roots too

    • @terenceseymour-tf8rptassie725
      @terenceseymour-tf8rptassie725 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have thought for years that it is a disgrace to have homeless people in many towns when every night the local churches have space that could be made available for free to people so they do not have to sleep outside .
      Many churches have a caretaker or resident clergyman on site so the homeless can be let in and supervised easily.
      I think the churches are worried the homeless might steal the candle sticks.
      After a night's rest they might even be interested in some volunteer work around the property .
      Looking after the poor and the homeless should be part of the Lord's work rather than locking them out of his house.
      The Churches would probably say they cannot open up their doors because of insurance issues or there is no funding for the project which of course is rubbish it should be a core activity of any church in the community and securing government funding should not be the reason to not help the needy.

    • @biddiemutter3481
      @biddiemutter3481 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@terenceseymour-tf8rptassie725 you are quite right and several churches do.

      @biddiemutter3481 where you have seen it does it only go for a week?
      A week to raise public awareness of homelessness and poverty is still worthwhile.
      True the amenities in some churches are going to be lacking.
      Having to go outside to the outdoor bathroom would not be a big deal for people who have to do this every day.
      Baby Wipes is just one way to stay clean and fresh or going to an emergency shower van that some communities offer is another way .

    Regarding ancestry, Ashkenazi Jewish doesn't necessarily indicate Middle East connectiomns. Ashkenazi Jews, the overwhelming majority of world Jewry, came originally from eastern Europe and Russia. Many of them today still live in Europe, Russia or the United States. Those in Israel today are only there since the rise of the Zionist project in the late 19th century and especially since the creation of the Israeli State. The minority, non-Ashkenazi Jews are known as Sephardic or Arab Jews who have lived in the Middle East for centuries.

    Please don’t use an Meirge Uladh to represent the north of Ireland. “Northern Ireland” has no flag and using the Ulster banner is a very sectarian signifier.

      Whind your neck in. You, as well as I do know the NT at the Giants Causeway, are well known for the prices they charge. Many tourists to this world heritage site, including locals, don't know that it's totally free to visit the stones. You only overpay to enter the visitor centre and parking. Park up outside and walk down its FREE.
