I can remember back in the 1950' and even up to the 1970's where it was so dark on that road (it was a main road in those days), you had to put your headlights on. Also, in those days ALL thee tourist places like Dunluce Castle, the Giants Causeway, Lough Neagh (with its 365 islands, one for each day of the year ), Celtic churches, the Caŕick Ropte Bridge (been over that too, many times ) etc etc etc, were ALL free to park and free tò visit. In those days you could go inside Dunluce Castle, including crossing a bridge to the piece that's sits on an out crop of rock, which has a hole in the floor so a boat could bring provisions if under siege, as a tunnel comes underneath. I've also been in that tunnel (when the tide was out). Did you know the kitchens of Dunnluce Castle fell into the sea during a violent storm, killing all the kitchen staff. In Portrush and Coleraine, you have Morrelli's Italian Ice Crem who have had their family business in NI since before WWII, and is still owned by the Morrelli's !

Family membership to National Trust highly recommended. We really enjoyed it, saved us loads of entry fees when kids were small. I use my individual one now when visiting some of my kids in England & more locally at home in Northern Ireland.
Be careful with Rosie. At the moment there is a big issue with Blue-Green Algae in the waterways and some of the beaches, which is fatal to dogs. The DAERA website should give you up to date information on where it is at the minute.

I spent 4yrs as a tour coach driver and visited all the tourists attractions in Ireland and uk all for free plus food...staying in 5 star hotels but down side was i be on a 11day tour home for 3days.

Ive followed you guys for years and I cant believe you're only 'up the road'. Welcome to NI. Check out Portstewart which is right beside Portrush, then head round to Carrick-a-rede rope bridge. Another great spot is Newcastle, Co Down for the Mourne Mountains. Also, a brilliant day out for the kids, W5 in the Titanic Quarter in Belfast - a brilliant educational science museum. Very interactive, plus you can see where the Titanic was built right outside.
@@Touringwiththekidsdefinately try Newcastle. Tye mountains sweep right down to the sea there and as most coastal towns there are amusements for the kids. Beach is not as nice as Portrush and parking may be a problem. Just outside the town is a fabulous forest park so hubby will be happy and the kids will have lots of open spaces to play games. Hope your wee dog has recovered PS. For anyone visiting NI we do not have global warming our summers do not get that warm and you could have 4 seasons in a day. Always always have wet weather gear handy as you don’t get to be this green with a hot and dry climate
If you take the right hand side of the visitors centre and head up hill there are several coloured walks with various degrees of difficulty and some amazing views. This is also a free entrance to the Causeway.

haha my dad worked for a contractor and was working up the Bregha road/Dark hedges well past 12 at night and saw nothing even in heavy fog his work mate was ploughing another time and when it came close to twelve he was out of the field and on his way home he was scared of the grey lady xD
Hi, Glad that you are enjoying Nothern Ireland, The Motor home stop in Portrush is always busy but is much cheaper than campsites, I arrived yesterday morning and it wasn't too busy but when I was leaving at about 2 this afternoon it was crazy with motorhomes parked on the grass even on the other side of the road, The other good point for me was the pay machine was out of order and no other way to pay, so free night for us, Enjoy the rest of your trip.

If you want to know where to go, ask a local. There are hidden gems that you’ll never find. Mind you many of the places I’m thinking of wouldn’t be accessible in a van.
What an interesting, educational and enlightening video this week ... points of interest - Rick busting a move early on - We have something similar here in Dunedin NZ with rock formations called the organ pipes - Genealogy is always surprising and it's worth doing a DNA test. My brother has been doing Genealogy for around 50 years, and it is fun to find out you are related to english royalty. With a maiden name like 'Grant' we are obviously of Scottish, English, and love to say it Rick, IRISH decent!! The food looked lovely but it was wayyyy over priced. In (Manchester, Chester and many other places) it costs £5.20 for sausage, chips, mushy peas and gravy. Plus you get 3 sausages so you can more than likely share it with a few people as it's massive. Also it tastes amazeballs. 🤣 Great video guys look forward to seeing what you get up to next Sunday. I think your title is unfair, these places need looking after the country (UK) is on it knees so everyone is trying to make good decisions..do your research.. avoid the expensive parts if it is an issue. Tourism all over our country is expensive... sorry guys somewhat unfair
I have thought for years that it is a disgrace to have homeless people in many towns when every night the local churches have space that could be made available for free to people so they do not have to sleep outside . Many churches have a caretaker or resident clergyman on site so the homeless can be let in and supervised easily. I think the churches are worried the homeless might steal the candle sticks. After a night's rest they might even be interested in some volunteer work around the property . Looking after the poor and the homeless should be part of the Lord's work rather than locking them out of his house. The Churches would probably say they cannot open up their doors because of insurance issues or there is no funding for the project which of course is rubbish it should be a core activity of any church in the community and securing government funding should not be the reason to not help the needy.

@biddiemutter3481 where you have seen it does it only go for a week? A week to raise public awareness of homelessness and poverty is still worthwhile. True the amenities in some churches are going to be lacking. Having to go outside to the outdoor bathroom would not be a big deal for people who have to do this every day. Baby Wipes is just one way to stay clean and fresh or going to an emergency shower van that some communities offer is another way .
Yep, giants causeway is a tourist trap and an absolute rip off for the unwary. Glad you didn't get caught out. The north Antrim coast and the glens of antrim is beautiful though. Glad you got to see my lovely part of the world. Hope you visit the mussenden temple at downhill and the fantastic beach at benone strand. 😎👍
As a resident of the north Antrim coast loving it's beauty every year different seasons and weathers is spectacular. I very much dislike how the Giants Causeway attempt to charge brutal costs to see the rocks... That walk along the old railway in Bushmills is a good one to take to the causeway too if you like nice walks.

Whind your neck in. You, as well as I do know the NT at the Giants Causeway, are well known for the prices they charge. Many tourists to this world heritage site, including locals, don't know that it's totally free to visit the stones. You only overpay to enter the visitor centre and parking. Park up outside and walk down its FREE.

The NT have been capitalising on people’s inability to use their initiative for years. Don’t pay this fee, the visitor centre isn’t worth it.

There’s a village a few miles away called Portstewart with a lovely beach you can drive onto & portstewart is much nicer the portruch.

The Frosses are gone they have been grubbed up and a dual carriageway was built.

Many tourists to this world heritage site, including locals, don't know that it's totally free to visit the stones. You only overpay to enter the visitor centre and parking. Park up outside and walk down its FREE.
