  • While I'm not the biggest fan of this generation of Z car, this 1981 Datsun 280zx turbo junkyard find was pretty cool to check out. It was actually in pretty good shape overall. The only thing lacking was a manual transmission and the digital dash gauge cluster. Also would have been nice if the complete set of those cool looking wheels were there. unfortunately only the two rears were present. The interior was well preserved as well with seats out of a later model 280zx. This one could have been saved whole in my opinion. ultimately it will meet the crusher soon so hopefully a lot of good parts will be saved before hand.

    Whoa Nelley, 1981 and it's done. Yes, that's the VIN. I actually like these cars. I've driven a few. It's one of the few Nissans I actually like.
    We got the VIN, we win: JN1 for Japanese made Nissan passenger car, C for 2.8L (L28ET) turbo inline six cylinder with fuel injection, Z0 for S130 model (280ZX), 4 for coupe, S for a placement marker, 9 is a check digit, B for the 1981 model year, X for Nissha, Japan assembly and the rest is the production sequence. From 1982 to 1986, Nissan phased out the name Datsun on their vehicles and moved over to Nissan, although Datsun was still what a lot of people knew them as. The 1992 Chevy truck that person owns has a 4.3 V6 in it, and it was made in Fort Wayne, IN. No, that's 204,000 miles. These had six-digit odometers and the L28 and L28ET engines were extremely durable and excellent runners.
    We got the tag, we can brag: HS130 for 280ZX coupe, 879 For Thunder Black exterior paint with Gold accent stripe, C for tan interior trim (so the seats are either from another car or were recovered), 3N71B for Jatco three speed automatic transmission (the B usually means lockup torque converter, but that didn't become standard until 1982), RC35 for possible 3.54 rear axle ratio, L28(ET) for 2.8L inline six turbocharged engine with fuel injection. Yutaka Katayama, aka "Mr. K" was involved with the early Z cars and was a maverick among his peers in Japan, and was very much the "John DeLorean" of Nissan. He had lived in the US for many years and adopted a western lifestyle which did not sit well with his Japanese colleagues. I do not believe you could get a manual transmission with a turbo engine in 1981 in some markets. No, all of that under hood paint appears to have been done after it was made. It should be mostly black under the hood.
    Whoa Nelley, 1981 and it's done. L28ET and it's over for thee. Domo Arigato with parts made in Japan and headed to the trash can. That's it, time to quit. Inspired by Mr. K and going away. Turbo charge no longer living large. That's it, time to quit. 2.8 and soon to meet the final fate. Used to be painted black and now needs some slack. Going to be flat and that's that. Jatco three speed is in great need. Going to get squished and many here, perhaps Benny, and you betcha the Google Man are going to be very, very, very, very pissed.

    Daniel made some memories delivering pizza and cruising around at night with his buddies. Daniel may have got the $300 maaco paint job special at one point in time...

      They don't care about tools. Heck they give away free antifreeze. And if buy a wheel, you get the tire for free

    Ugh it's too bad the reboot of the Datsun brand didn't take off last year Benny

    • @googleusergp
      @googleusergp ปีที่แล้ว

      1981 wasn't the "reboot of the brand". The Datsun name continued for a bit longer.

    I had a 1972 240Z and a 1978 280Z before they ruined them calling them a ZX. No turbo would save that car, it couldn't get out of its own way.

    • @googleusergp
      @googleusergp ปีที่แล้ว

      That was fixed by 1982 with the upgrades that it got. It was a spirited car for the time and was more of a luxury cruiser than an all out lightning bolt.
