I used to consider myself a proficient knitter until the day I collapsed into a coma for five days. My life is as divided as our calendar convention BC/AD. We have a different convention now but I prefer the older. It took a year to be able to, without a pattern cast on for a stockinette hat in the correct size and you get the idea. This is an awesome video. It reminds me of techniques and teaches me new ones. I’ll have to watch it to relearn. He has put so much information in this with small swatches. Brilliant
I love combining crochet and knitting. I use knitted ribbing. On a glove, mitten, or sleeve. Crochet 'fake' ribbing doesn't look as nice and more importantly doesn't hold its shape as well as knitted ribbing. I've used crochet to pick up stitches on edges. I'm always looking for easier and quicker ways to accomplish the work.
I have started combining as well. I had to get to a point where I was confident in knitting (I'm at 2 years of knitting compared to 40+ crochet). I'm currently using a crochet star stitch on a hat with a knitted brim. I never did like the crochet "ribbing" so I'm super excited to combine crafts.
Wow! I have knitted for years and did not know most of your "tips." Your tutorials are awesome..for instance, I tried for years to do the German Twisted cast on..then, I watched your tutorial and saw what I doing wrong! So, again, Norman, thank you.
I love your lace knitting tips! Making eyelets the same size and especially mirroring the nice diagonal lines with an ssk is pure genius. I could watch you for hours. Thank you.

I'm a beginner knitter...Tip #2 was amazing, but oh my! Tip #4 was so amazing! I actually have trouble bringing the stitch over the knitted stitch, because I'm a tight knitter. SSK or using a crochet hook is a game changer for me! Also love the last tip, combining crochet with knitting. Thanks!
I have been knitting for years but I have learned so much watching Norman's videos. Thank you for all the time you put into making these videos. They're wonderful.
I am about to teach my friends how to knit, and will definitely be giving them the link to both of your channels - your attention to detail and willingness to go so in depth is unmatched in all of the other tutorials I have come across. As someone who need the why of why we do things and not just the how, I am so grateful.
Okay, I’m feeling smart because I figured out that the crochet magic ring works for starting a nice, neat start to a dpn project a few weeks ago. As a crocheter for many years and a new knitter I’m excited to learn how to combine my love and passion for crochet borders and my new love of knitting! You are so inspiring. I can’t wait to play today. Never ending thanks, Norman.
I love love love your eye for details! ❤ I have just resumed my knitting. I used to knit a lot when I was young, but now I really want to improve my knitting technique and focus on the details. Your tips help me a lot! Every time you show me something that takes me to the next level, I'm so grateful. You are a great inspiration! You are the best! 🙏🤩❤
Absolutely fabulous tips. Normally when watching a long video my eyes glaze over and I start fast forwarding. This is really incredible, captivating and well done. Thanks, Norman! ❤ BTW, Love the shawl.
Norman, you did it again!! My mind is blown 🤯 in the best kind of way!! Your attention to detail, your video quality and clarity are amazoling! The symmetrical eyelets are fabulous!!
Amazing tips, Norman! You said it was going to be mind blowing but I still wasn't prepared to *actually* have my mind blown. I'm still on the newer end of being an intermediate knitter, but I think almost all of these techniques are ones that I can make use of now or in the near future. I'm definitely not at the advanced level, but with how you explained everything I was able to follow 99% of what you said. I appreciate that your tips are widely applicable for a lot of projects, especially the cast on/off and increases/decreases. I can't believe how simple the Turkish cast on is, I've somehow never seen it before now. The combined cast on is a huge game changer. And the shaping possibilities with stacked increases!! This video is definitely one I will be revisiting in the future to reference. Thank you so much!
Thank you, Norman, for this fantastic video. Your videos are directed toward adults. Most teachers spoon-feed the knitting techniques like they are talking to children. You are a genius teacher. I learned so much in this video. I didn't know any of these tips. I know I can use all this information now. Thanks so much. Eva❤
You were right, Norman--my mind is blown!! These are absolutely fantastic tips!!! Thank you so much for sharing your brilliance with us here. These are wonderful tips and your timing is perfect for all those Christmas WIPs I've got going. I will be using a number of the tips you demonstrated here on them. Thank you so much!!❤
Norman, you never disappoint! Your videos are wonderful. I appreciate this video of more advanced techniques. Thank you so much for all your content and help in making us better knitters!
Norman you are a genius! And a hard and thorough worker. I will definately rewatch this video again and again. I learned a lot - and I am not a very beginner knitter, I already know my stuff with knitting. Thanks.
i personally learned crochet before knitting, and the second i learned how to cast off i knew it would be easier and faster for me to chain-bind off with a hook! I also love the circular needle hack stripes, and not cutting yarn between colors for 2 row stripes- I recently used it on a sweater and did NOT miss weaving in those extra ends!
This morning I found your Chanel for the first time. I never comment on videos, but this time I have to! Thank you! Your teaching style is marvelous, your tips are truly helpful. I learned to knit and crochet as a child and been knitting for many many years and today watching your video I’ve learned new things. Thank you!
Thank you, I really knew none of the tips you presented (except maybe the concept of SSK vs K2tog being reverse leaning to each other) So, I learned many things. Your way of explaining and showing is very clear; once a regular knitter gets over the yarn placement and finger movements of a continental knitter!
I love this tip video! I have figured out about most of them myself but I never fail to learn something new from you! I particularly love the one on unbalanced cast off on both ends of the same row. It was genius! kinda looked a bit like knitting intarsia(? ) in the round but is flat instead! thank you SO SO SO SO SO much for the tips! I really really appreciate your videos!
Thank you for yet another amazing video. You are an excellent teacher 🥰 I do love to crochet and have done that many more years than knitting. Actually only took up knitting again recently after watching your videos. I learnt so much new today - thank you Norman ❤🙋🏻♀️🙃
Your new shawl is stunning - very elegant. Cool tips. I"m going to favorite this and save it. Your channel is a veritable encyclopedia of helpful information and is always clear on how best to accomplish a goal. By the way, those pink gloves are gorgeous.
I really enjoy you sharing your knitting expertise. Thanks Norman. I like the crochet bind off. The neater increase/decrease is perfect timing for me with my current project. My go to for improving my knitting skills. Many thanks.
Thank you! and thank you for having the personality and content that attracts such a great community of people whose comments give so much pleasure. Proud to be a Patreon subscriber.
Thank you Norman! This was unbelievably interesting and I cannot even imagine the amount of work it took! I LOVED the trick for symmetric eyelids, I will definately start using it from now on! Thank you so much for sharing
Loving your tutorials that the camera is so focus on what you are showing. At times for a newbie I need to see behind the fingers and this is often difficult. But you do have “Nimble” hands also. Truly support your channel. Keep up the great tutorials and suggestions.
I am portuguese. I only descovered your chanel today and I am delighted. I understand you perfectly becuse you talk slowly and you explain everything very well. I just subscribe. Thank you very much.
Ooh I am in love with the colors of your beautiful shawl myself!! This video was a real eye opener for me, especially when you get to the section about lace!! I love knitting lace and those techniques will definitely come in handy!! Thank you for your work!!
You've got me so excited to get back into knitting. I've done some basic stuff in the past like knit and purl, scarfs and square mats and things but after watching many of your videos I'm going to give knitting in the round and hats and socks a try. Hopefully after I'm done with that I can try to move onto some mittens.
I am such a new knitter from crocheting ,that when it came time to bind off , I didn't know how, so happy was I to figure out this really easy way to purl and then to knit on the back side of my needles, so I just took my 2.5 crochet hook and handled my business! Not knowing how to do something doesn't stop me! About halfway through your video I reached a full saturation point , the nothing made any sense anymorel. So I am going to have to revisit after I use some of this knowledge from today's visit and get it out of my head and into practical usage before I can sponge up some more of your infinite wisdom. Thanks for all your help, Norman. Even though I had watched her videos and you made me believe I could do it I still had not got needles into my hands to do it. Now that I have done so there is a world of understanding coming to me.
yeah, the video might be a bit much for a beginner. I'd rather watch the beginner tips videos here on my channel instead and come back to this one a bit later.
❤ Thank you for all your instructional videos! When I’m trying to learn something new your my go to channel to find what I need. It’s always solid advice and I love how you make videos so easy to understand. I ran by your channel while looking for someone who knit like me…which now thanks to you, I now know is continental knitting style. I also discovered, that I was knitting wrong the whole time! I learned to knit by myself by trying to remember the movements of the hands my aunt made when I was a child. So, I was knitting through the back loop and twisting all my knits. I couldn’t figure out why everyone’s hand movements in videos and everywhere else was so different from mine. Thank you for helping me to not only understand what I was doing wrong, but showing me how to correct my knitting so that I can now understand with ease your hand movements and then be able to mimic what you are trying to teach us. You are a treasure trove! You asked us to state if we want to know more about lace knitting, and I most certainly do! Late spring and summer use to be my slow down or stop time for knitting. I mean who really needs thick knitted stuff in my hot and muggy southern American states? However, I have now found a new and deep appreciation for light summer knits and lace knitting in light yarns, they are perfect for summer! Also, being able to add lace knitting to the repertoire is a skill I would love to acquire. Thanks in advance! Last but not least, I just wanted to point out, how beautiful your hands are, always well kept, clean, and just a pleasant. They never draw attention away from what you’re trying to teach. As you say, it’s all about those little details that make a major difference! Your voice is always calm and words are clearly understood, regardless of accent….which I love by the way. Volume on videos is great as well as lightning and in frame and focus…trust me, some videos will leave you feeling stressed out trying to see, hear or understand them! So this makes me appreciate your videos all the more. Thanks again, and keep up the amazing work, you’re a blessing to all us knitters.❤
thank you for sharing your detailed feedbackk with me! It means a lot. (PS: the time i spent on manicure before each video is....i resent "wasting" that time :P)
thank you for this! and yes, I would be very interested to learn how to fine tune lace knitting. I struggle to keep up with about half of your work but still learn so much.
You've taught me at least 90% of what I know about knitting and you're the first channel I recommend when my friends want to try out knitting. I'm about to try dabbling in sewing and I really wish you had a sewing side channel so I didn't have to look for a new go-to.
Hi Norman! Another wonderful treasure trove of information, thank you so much! I used to use make one increases to avoid using kfb if required at both edges, because I didn’t like the asymmetric finish. Now, thanks to you, I will know how to mirror it. The bind off tricks are brilliant too. And the backward loop trick to even out eyelets is genius. I must also add my voice to those calling for more lace knitting tips. I’m still pretty new to lace knitting, and I love it. It’s fun to knit such beautiful and challenging projects. I would very much appreciate your views on the subject. Also that shawl you are wearing is absolutely gorgeous! Thanks again Norman!
well, that's one way to approach it as well. I don't think it will make a biiig difference all things considered. However, it might mean that the band on the one side of your toe-box is half a stitch wider.
I do both crochet and knit. I am just now getting into Tunisian crochet. The fabric looks like a mix a knitting and crochet. This video was very interesting and informative. I will definitely be referencing this video in the future.
I am an experienced knitter with decades of experience, yet I saved this video in my playlist because I learned a new thing or two. I have been doing your SSK decrease and bind off for a few years now as I find that neater and less fiddly than the traditional methods. I will have to rewatch this video a few times to get all of the information. While I do think that your YO method does produce a neater finish, I think depending on the design it might make it different than what the designer intended. I am thinking about the Felix pullover being one situation where this might be the case. I always love your videos, and maybe it's time I do hit Subscribe 😅
Well, sure enough. It might change the look..especially if they didn't use directional yarn overs to begin with..that could be a problem but problem common sense for an advanced knitter. And yeah, feel free to subscribe any time if you enjoy my content but only then. 😉
I love this channel. It's so full of great information and things pertaining to your subject. Unlike some other channels that talk on and on about the weather, what's for dinner etc. Thank you
Norman, you Are absolutely incredible ❤ you are by far the best knitting teacher I have ever followed. Thank you so much for your effort. And yes please, more lace knitting tips would be much appreciated ❤❤❤
Great tips! A few I knew but most were new for me and some will be incorporated into my next project. Thank you for all your hard work in putting together your tutorials. Also I’m looking forward to seeing your new workspace.
Thanks Norman for another great video! I've been following you since I started knitting a few years ago and your videos have helped me gain a lot of confidence, because they've helped me understand the fabric I'm knitting so, even as a beginner, I felt free to improvise or change patterns, and make my knitting look neat. I'm so happy for all the videos you're producing 😊 I'm totally interested in additional tips for lace or any other technique. Thanks again for all your work!
👏🏻 love this video! I won’t remember most of it off the top of my head, but I’ll most definitely be coming back to watch again! I’ve been considering attempting the Master Knitter program for years. So glad to have found your channel… you really know your stuff!! Great resource for stepping up my skills! 🤗
Your tutorials are beyond doubt the BEST! I’m so glad I stumbled onto them. I have used so many of your suggestions making fun projects for my grandchildren and friends. Thank you!
Love your lessons and I absolutely would love to learn how to knit lovely lace garmets. How you fixed the problems was super to watch. I will try this out for myself on a future project that’s for sure. Thanks Norman 🥰🧶
What a great video! I love the way to teach. I have been knitting for many years and I learned some things here. The best part is know "why" things look the way they do and how to make them look more polished. Thanks Norman!
31:18 I recognize these stacked increases! The Fox Paws wrap is based on these! The stacked decreases are just as fun! Using the increases for gingerbread man arms is genius~ (Incidentally, I finished my latest Fox Paws wrap with a crocheted edge to bring in my favorite colors for the ends and make them compliment each other. I'm very happy with the result
yeah, that shawl uses them (albeit in a slightly different method). I always wanted to knit a variation of it but ...well..it does become a bit tedious :P
I have the fox paws pattern and class but I haven't started it yet. It will be a new technique for me. I've been knitting for 28 years and there's always something new to learn. 🙂
My mind is definitely blown! Fantastic tips and great presentation as always. There's so much to digest that I've saved this video to a playlist and will watch it a few more times! I often use the crochet cast-on and sometimes for large projects, I'll crochet a chain the required length and then pick up the stitches through the back bump of the chain using a tunisian crochet hook. I work the first row of the pattern with a knitting needle in my right hand and tunisian hook in my left. Gosh, that description makes it all sound much more convoluted than it really is, lol. I've been thinking a lot lately about combining knitting and crochet in my blanket designs, so I enjoyed your last couple of tips. Thank you so much, Norman! Oh, and that scarf is amazing 😍
One of my knitting patterns literally RELIES on the fact I can cast on & off stitches on one side of the work (it's for a miniature jumper for toy figures). I've even used casting off as a decrease before I knew how to decrease, so decreasing as a cast-off makes sense too. Also, the knit/crochet combo makes my day, especially as I took up crochet earlier this year & for many things it's so easy!!! But knitting also has advantages, so combo work makes sense too!!!

As a crocheter for many years and a new knitter I’m excited to learn how to combine my love and passion for crochet borders and my new love of knitting! You are so inspiring. I can’t wait to play today. Never ending thanks, Norman.
Good on you! Seems like you are a natural
I love love love your eye for details! ❤
I have just resumed my knitting. I used to knit a lot when I was young, but now I really want to improve my knitting technique and focus on the details. Your tips help me a lot! Every time you show me something that takes me to the next level, I'm so grateful. You are a great inspiration! You are the best! 🙏🤩❤
Wow! These are amazing, I'm definitely going to have to watch this a few times to incorporate it into my knitting. Thank you for all your hard work.
Absolutely fabulous tips. Normally when watching a long video my eyes glaze over and I start fast forwarding. This is really incredible, captivating and well done. Thanks, Norman! ❤ BTW, Love the shawl.
Glad you like them!
Seriously, your attention to the finer details blows my mind. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise! You truly are a wizard!
It's here to stay and to be rewatched! 🥰
Thank you, Norman, for this fantastic video. Your videos are directed toward adults. Most teachers
spoon-feed the knitting techniques like they are talking to children.
Thank you so much!!❤
Glad it was helpful! and well...i should be starting on these presents soon as well, lol!
Thanks.
Great tips on fixing little annoying problems with how knitting looks ! Better results with easy substitutions! ❤
Oh, yes, please more tips for lace making!
I totally agree!!!
i personally learned crochet before knitting, and the second i learned how to cast off i knew it would be easier and faster for me to chain-bind off with a hook!
Thank you!
i appreciate that! thx for making the extra effort to comment
Thanks so much for all your time working these tips out to make our knitting easier, you are very talented and such a good teacher xxx
Thank you, I really knew none of the tips you presented (except maybe the concept of SSK vs K2tog being reverse leaning to each other) So, I learned many things. Your way of explaining and showing is very clear; once a regular knitter gets over the yarn placement and finger movements of a continental knitter!
Thanks! This is going on my save list. You have some truly innovative ideas that are sure to make all of our knitting better.
You are so welcome!
Norman, you are a master knitter. I always learn so much watching you. Thank you for expanding the way we see and conceive knitting
Your eyelet tip blew my mind 🤯 I would love more lace knitting tips in future videos.
I love your tips! Thank you ❤
Your knitting stitches are beautiful.
Thank you! 😊
Your new shawl is stunning - very elegant. Cool tips. I"m going to favorite this and save it. Your channel is a veritable encyclopedia of helpful information and is always clear on how best to accomplish a goal. By the way, those pink gloves are gorgeous.
yeah, I love them as well. Tho I finished them a bit late and only wore them once so far. but winter is coming, eh?
I really enjoy you sharing your knitting expertise. Thanks Norman. I like the crochet bind off. The neater increase/decrease is perfect timing for me with my current project. My go to for improving my knitting skills. Many thanks.
Thank you! and thank you for having the personality and content that attracts such a great community of people whose comments give so much pleasure. Proud to be a Patreon subscriber.
very happy to be here for you
As a beginner knitter, I am in awe of all of the skill in your tips! I hope to one day be able to put these tips into action! Thanks Norman
i am sure you'll get there sooner than later with a bit of patience and lots of practise!
LOVE the symmetrical bind off! I've been looking for that for years! 18:34
You really are such an amazing teacher 🥰.
I’m so scared of lace and the second I go wrong I’m done.
Thank you Norman ❤
lifelines...lifelines! but yeah, I'll try to compile a lace video.
omg... these are amazing... ive been knitting 40 years.. and never knew these!!
You are amazing!! I have been knitting for the past 61 years. I am now 85 yrs old! I have learned tons of techniques from you. Thank You SOOO MUCH.
Thanks! Wow! What a great video on extra special knitting tips.
Glad you enjoyed it!
The even double-sided bind-off is brilliant! Thank you for all of your work and research.
You’re an incredible knitter! I am so very appreciative of your skills and willingness to share such in-depth knowledge.
Thank you Norman! This was unbelievably interesting and I cannot even imagine the amount of work it took!
I LOVED the trick for symmetric eyelids, I will definately start using it from now on! Thank you so much for sharing
Your titles are NOT click bait! You deserve way more subscribers! You are incredible!
This was a 🧶gamechanger! Thank you so much! All the best to you and your beloved😊
Glad it helped!
Fantastic tips! Around 95% of them were new to me. I would love to hear more improvement tricks for lace patterns. Thank you so much!
I'm a beginner knitter, but will certainly save this and return to it later on, to learn more. Thank you Norman!
The eyelets tip with ask is pure genius!! I will use it in my next shawl for sure. Thanks!! and yes to more lace tricks.
Thank you very much.
welcome to my channel then :)
Ooh I am in love with the colors of your beautiful shawl myself!!
This video was a real eye opener for me, especially when you get to the section about lace!! I love knitting lace and those techniques will definitely come in handy!! Thank you for your work!!
it so suprises me that so many seem to enjoy that section so much. I was thaaaaat close to cut it out, lol!
You've got me so excited to get back into knitting. I've done some basic stuff in the past like knit and purl, scarfs and square mats and things but after watching many of your videos I'm going to give knitting in the round and hats and socks a try. Hopefully after I'm done with that I can try to move onto some mittens.
You are a wonderful teacher and person Norman, thank you for these great tips and sharing your wisdom. Love from Türkiye ❤
I am an avid knitter and find your tips to be very, very helpful. You are a pro! Thank you for these very useful tips.
Your videos are always informative, especially to a self-taught, fumble along my own way sort of knitter!
thank you for this! and yes, I would be very interested to learn how to fine tune lace knitting. I struggle to keep up with about half of your work but still learn so much.
So refreshing to see a man enthusiastic about knitting.
I've taken it up again for Winter.
You've taught me at least 90% of what I know about knitting and you're the first channel I recommend when my friends want to try out knitting. I'm about to try dabbling in sewing and I really wish you had a sewing side channel so I didn't have to look for a new go-to.
haha...well..one channel is enough work! (even tho i come from a master sewing family :P)
Tak!
@NimbleNeedles I always do so I did! I will always enjoy learning new tricks.
Thanks again Norman, clear explanation and really helpful. You’ve aced it again.
I love this channel. It's so full of great information and things pertaining to your subject. Unlike some other channels that talk on and on about the weather, what's for dinner etc. Thank you
heh..well..sometimes that can be interesthing as well. But yeah, I try to keep my focus on knitting techniques
Heh. Give me a couple of weeks please. But I'm just excited to share it with you guys!
Best knitting teacher ever. Thank you from Buenos Aires - Argentina
Greetings back from Vienna, Austria 🇦🇹
Thanks Norman for another great video! I've been following you since I started knitting a few years ago and your videos have helped me gain a lot of confidence, because they've helped me understand the fabric I'm knitting so, even as a beginner, I felt free to improvise or change patterns, and make my knitting look neat. I'm so happy for all the videos you're producing 😊 I'm totally interested in additional tips for lace or any other technique. Thanks again for all your work!
glad I could speed you along and help you becoming such a proficient knitter!
Awesome, as usual! I love the analytical approach to knitting, well worth the wait.
👏🏻 love this video! I won’t remember most of it off the top of my head, but I’ll most definitely be coming back to watch again!
I’ve been considering attempting the Master Knitter program for years. So glad to have found your channel… you really know your stuff!! Great resource for stepping up my skills! 🤗
heh...well you can always bookmark this video and come back later. Not gonna delete these videos :)
Thank you for your advice. I haven't been knitting for several decades, YOU ARE MY BEST GO TO GUIDE, THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH.
Happy to help!
So many wonderful tips to add to one’s toolbox. Thank you! (Love your videos.)
Your tutorials are beyond doubt the BEST! I’m so glad I stumbled onto them. I have used so many of your suggestions making fun projects for my grandchildren and friends. Thank you!
That's awesome!
Love your lessons and I absolutely would love to learn how to knit lovely lace garmets. How you fixed the problems was super to watch. I will try this out for myself on a future project that’s for sure. Thanks Norman 🥰🧶
Fantastic tips that I have not seen before. Norman, you’re the best.
This youtube video is so amazing! I watched several times and I learned something useful every time
What a great video! I love the way to teach. I have been knitting for many years and I learned some things here. The best part is know "why" things look the way they do and how to make them look more polished. Thanks Norman!
guess i too want to understand all the whys and that kind of seeps into my videos quite naturally! good for you, eh? :)
31:18 I recognize these stacked increases! The Fox Paws wrap is based on these! The stacked decreases are just as fun! Using the increases for gingerbread man arms is genius~
(Incidentally, I finished my latest Fox Paws wrap with a crocheted edge to bring in my favorite colors for the ends and make them compliment each other.
Oh, and that scarf is amazing 😍
there is so much more when it comes to crochet & knitting. this is only the beginning and I do feel I need to explore it a bit more myself!
Love all of them!!! Already used your ssk trick and my knitting looks so much better.
This is such a wonderful video and a precious resource for all knitters.
Excellent! Thank you very much, Norman. Always so professional and polished. Great explanations!
