Greetings Dr Jenny Shelton, thanks for this sharing this educative video. My question is I used oat straw as a substrate to grow fungi. Afterwards, I did in vitro fermentation of the fungi-treated oat straw with rumen fluid from cow. I wish to isolate only the fungi DNA from my liquid-solid mixture (digesta or fluid). Then I would use the isolated fungi DNA to do a PCR test to help me identify the presence of certain fungi species with the aid of their corresponding primers. Can you please assist me with a protocol that can help me with the isolation of only fungi DNA from the mixture or digesta?

Thanks for the question! We are not able to offer specific advice, but you could isolate the fungal DNA after the DNA extraction step by using fungi-specific primers (DNA barcoding). This would allow you to amplify only the fungal DNA.

how much did the sequencing cost?

We currently offer sequencing for barcoding only in the UK (£7 / sample)
