I've lived in Hyderabad, with a sizeable population of both Hindus and Muslims. I'm a girl with a very obviously Hindu name, but I never faced any problems with Muslim people in Hyd. Infact some Muslim uncles I met in cabs, and had a conversation with, were very cordial and even kind. I took a cab once at 4.30 am to get to an early morning shoot to the other side of the city, a Muslim driver came to pick me up and the ride was smooth. Once I was very late for the airport and a Muslim man went out of his way to get me there on time. I've had nothing but good experiences with Muslim people in Hyderabad and realized after conversations with my local friends from college who were brought up in Hyderabad that the city is a perfect utopia of sorts when it comes to Hindu-Muslim relations.

I am from a village in Andhra Pradesh. During Moharram, our entire family goes to masjid & offer prayers to God. All the villagers celebrate the festival together. There are no communal clashes. This happens in other south indian states as well

I accept & respect my religion as well as people who practice other religion. I don’t want to fight in a race which will throw us back to the days which we fought Britishers, the DIVIDE AND RULE policy. I want progress. I want research institutes, I want better education, I want better opportunities, I want an inclusive society & so much more. There is nothing insight when I wake up and read newspaper everyday that inspires me that my country is in good hands. Do you? Everybody is trying to fight a race, to prove they are above each other when our very religion taught us to respect & be inclusive. Where are our morales? Ethics? Do you think a person like DR. APJ Abdul Kalam would be made president today despite his qualifications? If you think yes, then my good sir, you’re just too patient and delusional.

I'm resident of Tamil Nadu, my dad is a retd. IAF officer, I have done my schooling in Kendriya Vidyalaya and it is a secular school. My friends were Muslims, Christians, Sikhs and Hindus. While growing up together, we never had any issues, we didn't even bother to fucking ask a persons religion. I remember going to Shiekh's house on Eid, Jason's house for Christmas and they coming to my house for Deepawali and Holi.
I finished my schooling in 2012 and I joined college, a few of my friends left the city, a few went abroad, a few went to other states for college etc. I couldn't meet anybody for a really long time because of studies and job that I got later.
Almost, 7-8 years later, when we all decided to finally meet, it felt good. We all came to the same place again, attended Alumni function at school, went for a long ass vacation but sadly, the fun was over now. We had big ass political talks, now the narrative was Arjun was a right wing supporter, Shiekh was a leftist, I was a liberal atheist and Jason was again a leftist.
I remember how they pulled off a fight while we were on a road trip in the car.
Arjun said - Logic gaya maa chudane, iss desh me rehna hai toh yeh sab karna padega, to which others got offended and the entire trip got ruined.
All I'm trying to conclude is how brain washed have we have become, how has this rubbish politics impacted our brains, how all this has ruined peoples lives and how the psychology has changed. Seriously, it was depressing.
And I think all this is cuz we really lack "scientific temperament" and rationality. Since we bound ourselves with identities (be it religion,caste,nationality), those belonging to different identity become alien to us automatically.
How is that arjun went on to become extremist and you remained to be a secular/inclusive? Cuz you broke out from shackles of identity and he didn't. And he didn't cuz he lacked reasoing and questioning !
