In this video we're talking all about managing money as a minimalist. The first step in your financial minimalist journey is determining your goal. Do you want to travel, get out of debt, be financially independent, buy a house? Your goal should determine your path today.
My financial goal is to pay off our mortgage. This will also be a great investment for our retirement. When you don't have to pay for your housing you can live with very little money, especially with our frugal minimalist lifestyle! 😊
We try to eliminate many items from our life and be critical about what we want to spent our money on.
We also try to cut down on expenses like food and cleaning products by growing and making them ourselves. This is not only a cheaper way to live, but it's also a fulfilling way to love. Being happy is far more important than earning a lot of money. I'd rather work less and have a pleasant daily routine than working many hour and spending a lot on experiences and holidays.
I think it's important to choose things that you like to make yourself/swap out for a diy version. If it's not fun you're not going to stick with it.
Most swaps are not only a financially better option, they are also a more ethical and environmentally friendly option.
Living a financially minimalist lifestyle has really grown on me. It makes me feel good and I'm always excited to learn new things and try out new ideas.
Thank you so much for watching! ❤️

    Hello, Delala.
I remember in one of your first videos you spoke about preferring to enjoy your surroundings rather than working all the time for occasional foreign travel. (I remember the expression you used, which was something along the lines of 'I'm sure it's very beautiful half-way around the world, but it's also very beautiful where I live'.) It's when I knew I had found something in your channel, as I could see how happy you were in enjoying local nature with your dog and having an 'everyday' life that was full of the joy of simple, slower living. It takes a lot of courage to live counter-culturally and I think you offer us a wonderful example in your channel.
I used to travel a lot and do a job I didn't so much enjoy all the time. I realised it was insane to spend a lot of the time each year doing stressful work for the few 'set piece' events that cost a lot of money. And how this took away from living in the present moment, because one was constantly looking forward to the next 'set piece' thing. How it was better to have rhythms and patterns of life that were rewarding and fulfilling on a daily basis. How even mindfully cleaning the house could be a source of joy. How a walk in a local wood could be as pleasurable as an expensive city break, with luxury hotels and restaurants and expensive activities.
I forget who, but someone once said: "Some people want a life jet setting around the world to climb to the top of 50 mountains. I want to spend life exploring * this * mountain top, noticing the passing of the seasons and the wildlife." Some people may find this person's expression of a fulfilling life to be boring; to me it is the very shape of human happiness.
As for financial minimalism, "Wealth consists not in having great possessions, but in having few wants"!

Ahh I love that my video stuck with you 🤗 I’m always trying to find a balance in telling a new story but also sketching the full picture for people who are new to my channel. So I hope I don’t repeat myself too much 😅
A walk in the forest is indeed a lot more peaceful and fulfilling than an expensive city trip 🤗
I love the quote you shared!! ❤️ thank you for always sharing you story and insight! ☺️

Ahhh this is the inspiration I needed today. I've been trying a very similar lifestyle, trying to grow my own food and such, but it seems the hardest bit is having friends that don't align with the same ideas.

Hello from Colombia, South America 👋 I arrived to your video because I want to quit my job soon and start a frugal life. Yes, my plan was also traveling around the world and having a beautiful apartment in a beautiful neighborhood, but I agree with you when you say that it’s better to have a calm life instead of a fun vacation if you come back and hate your job. Thanks for sharing your experience 😊

We paid off our mortgage years ago, while others our age went travelling and holidaying. We prefer to 'staycation' here within the UK and don't see it as a compromise. I get very homesick, so on the rare occasions we've been abroad (we have family in Lithuania and Netherlands!) I just want to go home. Despite the country's many problems I adore it and feel good about spending money locally instead of globally, to build up the economy. There is so much beauty to be found just outside our own doorsteps, so much to explore, discover and enjoy. It's lovely to get to know the local cultures within your own country and learn about the people, customs and traditions because they are so varied. I don't feel the need or desire to go elsewhere to find what I already have here. Lovely video, Delala!

Amazing that you’ve paid it off completely, must feel so great!! 🙌🏻
I love how you described the beauty of a Staycation! ☺️
I absolutely agree that it’s better to build up the local economy too!
I hope you’ve had a great time here in the Netherlands despite being homesick 😇
Thanks for the sweet comment 🫶🏻

What I really want as a foreigner who has lived in the Netherlands 10 years now is a social housing. My income is low, and social housing for me is the best option right now .I'm not married, and I don't have a partner, and the rent is way too expensive for the last 5 to 6 years . Sadly, I'm not qualified yet , especially after so many Ukrainians come in the Netherlands they had the priority 😅

In the US now is not the time to buy a home lol. Rates are way too high. Once they come down I'd agree, its a good idea. My mortgage is a little over 500 a month, and the rate is 3%. No car payments for wifey and I. In the US avg mortgage is over 2k a month and avg car payment is over 700. Thats why so many here make good money but are also flat broke lol. Keep preaching frugal living. Good work.

Considering the major approach of the financial minimalsm really raises the awareness of the individuals. Particularly, it subsumes the people who devoted themselves to living the minimalism life, dealing with the frugality in this post is a sort of reminding each person. It is significant to abstain from the extravagance, lavishness and prodigality. It always enables us to maintain the lucid rituals and decent habits in this life. Also, it might sometimes be more viable option to take the vacation, travelling to the other countries, seeing the different spots help us focus on the forthcoming actions within this phase. I roundly savoured each snippet of this video. Warm hugs during the spring season from Turkey!

Just found your channel will spend the weekend binge watching your past videos.
I do travel abroad to see family, but I budget for this every month. I live the most frugal life I can, I love finding new frugal channels because I find that I usually learn something different. I batch cook and freeze. At the moment I am busy picking blackberries to free to use over the winter when berries are expensive.

You're completely right delala people don't realise that morgages are just traps my rule is that I only buy what I can afford that way I never end up in debt I've also come to find out that many 2nd hand goods are superior quality to new items which are often built only to throw away.

    • @Delala
      @Delala  ปีที่แล้ว +1

You’re absolutely right! Planned obsolescence is so real (sadly I’ve had some really obvious examples of it recently… 😕) older items were made to last a lifetime. Slowly trying to find those items second hand to replace the items breaking on me 😇

I started my first gardens in my big back yard this year and loved it. Learned a LOT for next year! My tomatoes and lettuce and cucumbers and broccoli, basil, and a couple other things tasted so much better than the supermarket! Also had same idea about using my fireplace this winter. I am here in the US and it gets very hot here in summer (Kansas can be as hot as Greece in summer). So I moved my spare bed to my basement and I sleep down there to save on air conditioning. Great perspectives, thank you!

can you tell us more about chickens in the garden. in UK this is very easy to have chickens in garden as neighbours can noise complain. and how you get wood for stove, here in city it is expensive to get wood delivered

    • @Delala
      @Delala  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hi! Chickens actually don't make a lot of noise. If you're worried about the neighbors you can have chickens without a rooster🐓
Wood is expensive here as well (if you buy it at "regular" places). We are very lucky to be able to get free wood that would otherwise go in the trash.
But there are also some farmers in the countryside selling wood a little cheaper 😊

Ive never understood why Western Europeans and Americans put so much pressure on themselves to have a mortage it really is not the be all and end all. Here in Mexico many rent. I rent a studio its 1 room with a small bathroom for myself and my 4 year old its 3000 pesos a month which is 180 USD a month with bills included. Being happy is finding small pleasures in everyday living.
