I was visiting my grandmother in York S.C. and before I left to go back to Florida, I stopped by a grocery store to pick up some Liver Mush! When she made breakfast for us as kids, you could count on having some Liver Mush. I love this stuff! There were different brands at the store, but I remember this episode on the Travel Channel and picked up some Mack's Liver Mush. My grandmother uses Neese's Liver Pudding which is pretty good also!
I'm a Cajun from S. Louisiana and moved to NC in '87. Never heard of livermush but tried it and ate it many times. Really like the smell of it frying and the taste is something else. I really like it. Now that I have moved back to Cajun Country I Really Do Miss It. My Daughter, Husband, and their daughter from Spindale came down to visit me and brought along a lb of livermush from Shelby and Marion Both were delicious, had livermush for about a month and a half. Is there any way it can be shipped to a local butcher shop in New Iberia so that I can STILL buy some?
I moved to Shelby in 1983 from the Caribbean (but from a midwestern yankee family). Talk about major culture shock. Ive finally learned to like BBQ (another Shelby claim to fame), but still can't do livermush. Dont think its Kosher...lol. Well I guess BBQ isnt either, but oh well...I love it now.
My husband and I were in NC last weekend for a wedding. We ate breakfast at a lovely place "Country Kitchen" in Ashelville, and I had livermush for the first time. It's very much like scrapple, I thought, and I liked it.
Loved it when I was a kid growing up in the Carolinas. Miss it living in California. Have to make my own. Moosh, mush, liver pudding, livermush is good stuff.
Almost all my relatives live in that part of NC so I have always eaten livermush. Great stuff!! Bad part is we can only get it when we go back to visit cause we moved away when I was young. I would love to order this online!!!! Hated that the host kept saying "moosh"! What an idiot!
I love livermush. I live in Michigan now but was born in Belmont, NC. Mom lives in Shelby. Every time I come down I take back 10-15 pounds. Some friends here like it as much as me. I love it cold on mayo and bread. Fried. Over grits and eggs. And yes sometimes with a small amount of grape jelly Wish I could get it here. Got my livermush tee shirt a few years back in Shelby. Love macks the Best.
@missannekol There's a good chance you've seen it every time you went to grab bacon at your local grocery store. They sell it In NC, SC, and VG. I don't know a single Grocery store that doesn't carry it.
I don't eat pork. I grew up eating this which is my favorite food. I make it myself using chicken and or beef liver. 😋 Yummy. Good no matter how it is consumed... While in Florida one time, my momma was told that when liver becomes mush they throw out away... She had asked the meat department of the had livermush.
Sorry guys, southerner here. It's gotta be neeses liver mush. And despite the spelling it's spoken the way the delivery guy said it. Not like you're saying mushy. At least not in NC
lol Yankees got scrapple. Almost the same. It's all over western NC and upstate SC. I grew up with it in Asheville and still get it down near Atlanta where I live now.
I was born and raised in western, NC....livermush was (and still is) a staple in my house, it's the BEST stuff EVER!!!! I can't believe this damn yankee mispronouncing "mush"....what a shame.
Honestly I can't tell the difference, and then sometimes I can depending on the brand name. But it fucking delicous. What is the difference between much and pudding?
Mush is made with corn meal. Pudding with rice. Liver pudding usually cooks to a runny consistency, requiring a spoon...Mush can be fried crisp, much like sausage.
hhmmm That's interesting, sometimes I can get the pudding a little crispy, but that did made me pounder on why some brands of liver pudding didn't fry up crispy like livermush. Either way, they both taste amazing and it helps me build up my poor iron. I can't seem to absorbe it quite well and dixie my dog tends to love this shit that when my foodstamps comes in, me and her will go grab pack and make some breakfast with it. Might try a sandwhich idea I saw in the comment section.
Food might be good ,but everything is like mush even your utility bill is like mush where they throw in some ridiculous charges like "STORMWATER" and "RESIDENTIAL RENEWABLE ENERGY " with no explanation .Just ripping off consumers.
Fry it with eggs, cheese, and make a sandwich with 2 pieces of toast and mayo. Never tried grape jelly before. My Dad makes a concoction he calls "livermush goolosh" that's basically livermush with ketchup, mayo, mustard, and peanut butter all mixed together and served in a sandwich. I was never brave enough to try that, either. Lol
Haven't been to Shelby in ages........
Love seeing macks trucks rolling through lawndale when I was home.
Yessir. Lawndale was my first home and I grew up in cherryville
You mean Chair-a-vul?
Justin Grigg hey man I used to drive a truck for Elmore's feed
I used to live in Shelby NC for 10 years
@paguy611 it is similar, but has a deeper flavor then scrapple. I grew up in Maryland and we had both in store coolers
Never seen Mack’s in my stores. I will have to look for it. I love me some liver mush/pudding with mustard and Duke’s mayo!!!
@yotamgm09 ahahaha it was driving my crazy when they kept saying moosh

@paguy611 No, different seasonings plus scrapple doesn't necessarily have liver.
Good in my Macaroni & cheese and with some Cayenne on the side fresh out the garden for supper, good stuff.
Yesterday a friend brought me up one pack. Will have it for Breakfast tomorrow. Can't wait.
Fried livermush in a hot biscuit or with grits - something only a Cleveland County native would understand.
All you need is a little liver mush and egg on toasted Bread but I normally put bacon or sausage with it
My husband and I were in NC last weekend for a wedding. We ate breakfast at a lovely place "Country Kitchen" in Ashelville, and I had livermush for the first time. It's very much like scrapple, I thought, and I liked it.
livermush is the BOMB!
I've been eating Neeses since I was a baby. Cold or Warm it's delicious.
Loved it when I was a kid growing up in the Carolinas. Miss it living in California. Have to make my own. Moosh, mush, liver pudding, livermush is good stuff.
We pronounce it "mush" as in the word "hush". The host pronounces it as "moosh", something of which I've never heard a fellow North Carolinian say.
haha he finally says it correctly at the end.
Almost all my relatives live in that part of NC so I have always eaten livermush. Great stuff!! Bad part is we can only get it when we go back to visit cause we moved away when I was young. I would love to order this online!!!! Hated that the host kept saying "moosh"! What an idiot!
i love how they play banjo's for us.
I got mushed by the Shelby Cafe!
My home town.I love fried livermush! Eat mostly for breakfast with grape jelly.
I love livermush. I live in Michigan now but was born in Belmont, NC. Mom lives in Shelby. Every time I come down I take back 10-15 pounds. Some friends here like it as much as me. Got my livermush tee shirt a few years back in Shelby. Love macks the Best.
I was raised on livermush and other great foods. I live in Dallas, North Carolina, not too far from Shelby.

Are they still open?
The pronunciation is killing me lol.
That isn't a Northern thing either, here in Pennsylvania we say mush like hush too!
livermush is king
It's really only in this area, I lived 30 miles away and never heard of it!
OMG. I would do almost anything for some mack's liver mush. I was born in shelby. I joined the army and they sent my ass to El Paso TX :(
@thathondaguy
I know right? also this is brian.
Livermush and rice
... not a fan of liver mush ... but i live here ... skate where he was standing in front of the court square everyday ... :)
its mush not moosh wtf!!! im from charlotte!
Not "moosh" you goof, "mush." Like "crush."
LOL FUCKING Yankees
he also pronounces Appalachian "app-a-lay-shun" rather than the correct "app-a-lat-chan".
I know, this guy literally wants to make me wanna beat him with ruler.
Hello me from 8 years ago....
You can get livermush at Midnight Dinner downtown/Southend in Charlotte
I love it myself. :)
Sorry guys, southerner here. It's gotta be neeses liver mush. And despite the spelling it's spoken the way the delivery guy said it. Not like you're saying mushy. At least not in NC
Why is the packing lady touching it with bare hands? :'(
Gloves are required at SC restaurants or the health inspector will take points away...
It's ground up pig snout, spleen and liver (at least) and you're worried about someone touching it lol
Yeah, when I was a yankee i didn't know about any of it! lol
lol Yankees got scrapple. Almost the same. It's all over western NC and upstate SC. I grew up with it in Asheville and still get it down near Atlanta where I live now.

Someone needs to smack this guy for calling it liver moosh
Mack's is really good but I like Hunters a little better
I was born and raised in western, NC....livermush was (and still is) a staple in my house, it's the BEST stuff EVER!!!! I can't believe this damn yankee mispronouncing "mush"....what a shame.
hearing him pronounce mush like moosh just makes me CRINGE!!! proud to be from NC!!
Please pronounce it right!
Livermoooosh? WTH, TOA needs to send somebody that knows how to at least pronounce it. Maybe he had too much kaburnit sa-vig-nun.
+andanicechianti Bless his heart.
livermush and liver pudding are two very different things... and that scrapple crap ain't even in the same category...srsly.
Except for neese's...Both mush & pudding hold together if it's neese's.
hhmmm That's interesting, sometimes I can get the pudding a little crispy, but that did made me pounder on why some brands of liver pudding didn't fry up crispy like livermush. Either way, they both taste amazing and it helps me build up my poor iron. MyAmature wtf. Your brain is mush.
It's not Muuush. It's Mush.
dude, learn to pronounce "mush" . . . please. Desecrate the food of the gods by mispronunciation?
Fry it with eggs, cheese, and make a sandwich with 2 pieces of toast and mayo. Never tried grape jelly before.
My Dad makes a concoction he calls "livermush goolosh" that's basically livermush with ketchup, mayo, mustard, and peanut butter all mixed together and served in a sandwich. I was never brave enough to try that, either. Lol
Was he pregnant?!?!?! Sounds really gross. I wish I wouldn't have even read that.
a124791 Lol
Yha it was sound good until you said peanut butter. Now I'm just getting the goosebumps.
Can this guy please say "mush" correctly? Learn to speak English!;-) Livermush: the food of the gods!
LOL Yankees...........

Shelby is so nasty for revering this
it's pretty gross stuff...I tried it once, just to be daring. Ugh!
