Shelby is a great town , I was born and raised there . I now live in Kings Mountain which is not far away . Im just getting old and enjoying life . Can't ask for much more than that .
Can't believe I just came across this, nice ray of light on my hometown. Shelby, is a hidden gem......but the real question is....did you try the livermush? lol
Ive lived here in shelby my entire life and thank you for shining a sprinkle of light on us.. You missed out on our town motto actually.. its "City of Pleasant Living" and if you have ever been here you know how true.. Thanks again.. Love the vid!
Yes, do! Must visit Newgrass Brewery, South Mountain State Park, Baker Buffalo Winery, Ro's BBQ in Gastonia (so I'm told, we missed it ), Asheville is only an hour or so away... great stop for sure 👍
You guys are lovely and so down to earth... great to get to peek into the window of your travel adventures and your lives together. Thanks! Safe travels and wishes for the best of everything on the next leg. bg
Embracing Detours So nice to see y’all again and enjoying the small town adventures of Shelby. And.....I met Roger and Robin in my travels and they are soooooo nice and friendly which y’all have discovered!! See you down the road.....💞
There was really a lot of beauty in and around this little town - from the postcard-perfect winery to the majestic waterful hike, it was all just 👌As always, thanks for watching! 😊
@@EmbracingDetours Thank you both! It's been rough and totally wasn't expecting this to happen any time soon, but doing much better than a week ago. Definitely in need of a camping trip.
Thanks! We didn't get a chance to explain it in the video, but Earl Scruggs (who the big building was named after) is a world-famous banjo player born in Shelby. I have a soft spot in my heart for bluegrass music, growing up one of my very best friends' father played banjo so I grew up with it.
Small world!! Great area, we loved our time in and around Shelby - the landscape was beautiful and the people were wonderful. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Enjoyed your visit to Petoskey, MI and searching for the Petoskey stone. If no one has mentioned it, the Petoskey stone lived 350 Million years ago as a Hexagonaria, a genus of the Rugose Coral. Have fun traveling thru 〽️.
I spent my childhood in Shelby! Earl Scruggs Center was "The Old Courthouse" back then, but I recognize it and some of the uptown scenery. And yes, turtle is "Cooter" down there...lol I tell ppl that all the time! Shelby has a special place in my ❤ glad you guys enjoyed it. Great video!
That little town just had so much life in it! Everyone seemed excited about the future there and enthusiastic to call Shelby home. There are so many funny sayings there, our hosts had several but cooter really struck us funny 😆🐢Glad you enjoyed the video and were able to reminisce about your upbringing, thanks so much for watching and commenting!
Those are some good stomping grounds! It really was a great little town, we look forward to returning... and making a trip to Gastonia for Ro's, of course!!
Also love Shelby , Gibson Theater which is great place to listen to music . Reckless Kelly was appearing there. They let me park my RV in their parking lot right next to the tour bus for the show .super nice people! Also great videos y'all are just so down home it's a real pleasure to watch y'all having fun.
Our hosts told us about Gibson Theater and we saw it, but unfortunately, there was no music there the weekend we were there. How cool that they let you park your RV there for the show. Thanks for introducing me to Reckless Kelly, I'm listening to them right now. Thank you so much for the kind words 🙏
If history interests you, nearby is the Kings Mountain National Military Park. This is the site of an important Revolutionary War battle that is considered the turning point of the war in the south. It was a huge defeat for Col. Ferguson of the British Army.
Kings Mountain was on our list to visit but we just did get a chance to make it there this time, unfortunately. What a fascinating place in our country's history, thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much, Rick! The orange and white girl is a Brittany, her name is Madley. The black and white boy is mostly Springer Spaniel we think, he was a rescue from the humane society so he might be a mix. His name is Brodie. They're both bird hunting dogs with lots of energy and a love for adventure, they make perfect travel companions and we love them to pieces.
Oh boy, I'm not a very good cook!! lol But maybe that could be an interesting take on it... RV meals from a lazy mediocre cook. My IP stuff is pretty basic, throw some chicken and a bottled sauce in the pot and cook it. That said, it's a good idea that I will seriously consider, thank you for the suggestion and for watching and commenting.
Great video! And the music was fantastic! Shelby looks like a great place to visit! (but maybe not stay...)!! The sky was so pretty, the hike looked great! Glad your trip was good and hopefully you stayed to go back to the museum. Until next time...
Thank you, Donna! We loved our time in Shelby- we had beautiful weather, stunning scenery, and wonderful hosts, so we really couldn't go wrong. Thanks for watching!!
Oh wow, how cool that you know your ancestry that far back, I'm impressed! We're glad you found us too, thank you for the well wishes and for watching and commenting 😊
You're not the first person to mention Catawba Farms, feeling a little bummed we missed it this time around. We'll add it to the list of 'things to come back for'... 😉 Thanks for watching and commenting, Evelyn!! 👍
Wow, this is the first video of yours I've seen and the production quality of it easily rivals anything being shown on HGTV or any of those other channels! Liked, subscribed and hit the bell. You're right about Shelby being a great little town. I live about 20 minutes away and always enjoy visiting.
If ya are still in NC, check out Catawba Farms about an hour from Shelby. They are a Harvest Host and have a nice place...I stayed there last week and recommend it.
Thank you, Steve! Unfortunately, we moved on without seeing Catawba Farms but it just made the list for the next time we're in the area. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍😊
*BAHAHAHAHAHAHA* you just spoken the world's best oxymoron ever! An art exhibit at the Earl Scruggs Center! BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA And, they were exhibiting cartoons Bahahahhahahahahaha You just experienced a southern stereotype about southern stereotypes 🤪 BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Just found your channel! Love it and I look forward to viewing. I hope you’re still in the NC area and may even find yourself in Winston Salem, NC. If in the Asheville area, be sure to see the Biltmore House. Question: tell us how you care for your pets when out and about with them staying in your camper/van. Thanks!
We're happy to have you along for the adventure, Chuck! We actual visited Winston Salem in this week's video, if you haven't seen it already be sure to check it out! Regarding your question, we care for our pets in the RV the same as we did in our sticks and bricks home. We do keep a closer eye on the weather and avoid extreme temps. Of course, when able we bring them with us but that's not always possible. On warmer days, rather than rely on campground electric to run our a/c, we opt to open the windows, pull the awnings, and set the thermostat on the fantastic fan to run and circulate air through the trailer. If there's ever a question to the safety of the animals, we stay with them. They always have plenty of water, food, exercise and love, and always have a new back yard to explore 😊Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
We genuinely really liked it there. The people we met were all so nice and there was this energetic enthusiasm from young and old to make Shelby a fun and nice place to live and that people were proud to call home. We felt totally safe in the areas we visited. I think it's definitely worth a visit to decide for yourself, good luck!!
Yes!! Even though I've had my IP for over a year I still feel like a noob and the stuff I make in it is pretty basic. Even still, it's so handy! What's your favorite thing to make? Thanks for watching and commenting!!
south mountain is a hidden gem of Clevland county there is aback trail that doesnt require you to climb as many steps

Every time I see those commercials, I think how pretty that barn is!! And why is everything closed on Monday?! 🤣
Good question. Mondays should be travel days, or napping days... it's good for pretty much nothing else.
Agreed!
