fire episode as always P. love the insight with young players currently in the league but also the perspective from older players too. that's why this podcast is the best basketball podcast
Playing with Larry Bird… beating MJ in the playoffs with Shaq and Penny… the Sprewell choke… 3-peating with Shaq and Kobe… coaching against the Heatles - Brian Shaw is like the Forrest Gump of the NBA - present for all these iconic moments.
Man this is one of the best episodes. Bshaw has the best stories. Not to mention he hit HUGE shots in his career for the lakers during those 3peat teams in 2000, 01 and 02. Would love to see more vets and people from the 80s-early 2000’s on too. Keep up the great work podcast P!
You're right, David. This is one of their best episodes, but why isn't Brian's name in the title? I could be wrong but Shaew seems to be the focus of this episode 🤔
That Kobe & JR Rider story never gets old man. JR doesn't admit to this day but insiders like Shaw know that Kobe cooked his ass so bad that day. My forever GOAT, he never backed down from any challenge. Rest easy Bean ⭐
@lakeshoresubtleties he did and he also added the excuse that he was outta shape. Kobe cooked JR and that's from multiple sources, he didn't however cook Jerry Stackhouse at the John Lucas run, that story took on legs but people who were there have said that while Kobe ended up getting the upperhand it wasn't a smackdown.
The man was Bird’s teammate, played on the legendary Kobe/Shaq Lakers teams, played against Iverson when he stepped over Lue in the finals, saw Spre choke out the coach, he was there when Jordan switched back to 23, and was with the Spurs when Duncan was there. He is like the NBA version of Forrest Gump, he was around for so many major NBA moments .
I’ve gotta say every time I watch older players…I realize how much guidance is needed for a young person to really flourish. Ty Lue is one of the premier coaches in the league now…and Shaw was there to lift him up. We ALL need that
Brian Shaw is one of my favorite unsung role players in NBA history. I remember him on those Orlando teams and then with the Lakers. ShawShaq Redemption 4L
Yes, Shaw played with a lot of greats. You'd think Shaw would have enough juice to get his name in the title of this video, but, alas, it's not to be 😔
As a Basketball and Kobe fan, this was gold. Podcast P is definetly the best podcast on basketball and allows fans to understand subtle behind the scene nuances of the game. This was one of the best episode yet.
He said, "I grew up in Oakland, on the west coast. I was like, f*ck the Celtics."😭🤣 I can listen to B. Shaw all day. Kobe vs. Penny, would've been a fun rivalry.
Lol... "The Ram Rod." That sounds like something Larry would do. Brian Shaw is hilarious af. We never really got to see this side of him during his time with the Lakers because he never really got interviewed.
Half way through and I wish I could like this interview 1000 times. Great questions, great answers and great stories. Shout out to BShaw and shout out to the whole crew to me yall been getting better and better every episode .
This is prolly the first basketball podcast I've watched from start to finish besides maybe 1 other. Growing up a lakers fan I love the stories Shaw shared. He's a good storyteller too.
PG13 I’ve been a Clips fan for 15 years rooted for Lob City PBev Lou Will all em the way you represent the city and embrace the organization means a lot. Became my favorite player cause of how you embrace being a Clipper. Thanks for every ring much love and let’s get it done this year!!
I was born in 84’. Having growing up in the 90s idolizing the Bulls, hating the Lakers, loving Kobe later on in his career this is the BEST episode. Especially after this year’s all star game, damn I miss 90s and 00’s NBA.
One of the best and most entertaining interviews to date. Great job asking the questions and letting B. Shaw just tell the stories with no interruptions
Brian’s experiences are fascinating enough to listen to all day, but his thoughts, insights, perspective, and the way he presents it make him an excellent storyteller. One of the best episodes!!
What an incredible episode. Brian Shaw has witnessed so many epic moments over his playing and coaching career. I knew that it would be a good one, but I didn't expect to hear the details about the Sprewell-Carlesimo incident! That story was huge back then, but they didn't tell us much. Props to Paul and the team for guiding the interview so well. Perfection.
Awesome interview!!! 👍👍👍 I was at the Staples center for 2000 WCF game 7 Lakers vs. Portland Trailblazers....I remember 4th quarter Lakers was down big 15 points 60-75 to Trailblazers...everybody in Staples was nervous as hell...then B Shaw and Kobe got to work! B Shaw hit several big 3's...Kobe kept driving to the baskets kept getting fouled ( Kobe missed several free throws though ) when Lakers came all the way back won game 7 the building was rocking! we were all high-fiving strangers Lakers Fans all around us!! 2000 WCF game 7 is an all time classic!!! 👍👍👍
These nba journeymen stories from the 80s and 90s are the best, especially coming from great storytellers like Brian Shaw. there should be an entire show dedicated to them.
Paul has a nice show, his help asks sensible questions and don’t stomp on guests while answering potentially viral reply. Also the interface and tickers w/info nuggets. #Bigup
Man o man!! Brian Shaw!! I remember B-Shaw playing for the Miami Heat lol!!! It’s crazy how fast time FLYS!! Yeap, I remember his career, and he was always solid! From Miami to Boston to LA., he played his ass off. I don’t remember all of the teams that he played for but I remember his game, and he could get a bucket!!
Entertaining episode! Between the "Ram Rod" story and Bird (President of the Pacers at the time) texting PG the photo that catfish'ed him 🤣, I had no idea Larry was a jokester.
Brian Shaw ...he was my 1st basketball hero when he played for Rome's team in 1989-90 in the italian league 🇮🇹, instead of joining Bird's Celtics after university! Indeed, before going to the Nba, Danny Ferry (#2 drafted in 1989) and Brian Shaw accepted the high offer from the new management in Rome who want to build up a dinasty in the italian city. There were more expectations on Danny Ferry, but Brian Shaw did better, and he became a star of the league, at that time very competitive: the italian champions were to beat Ewing's Knicks at the McDonalds Open....they had advantage in the last seconds and only some circumstances allowed Knicks to avoid the defeat. Anyway....I have a personal anecdote about Brian Shaw. Late in the season, there was an event ...the football/basket friendly match against the As Rome football team: half time playing basketball, half time playing futsal, with mixed players. There was lot of energy and 15.000 of attendance, the biggest in Europe at that time. During the warm-up before the basketball part, given the atmosphere was friendly, I dared to go down the stands, approaching Brian, and asking him the ball for an off court try. I called him....asked him ...at the beginning he didn't understand, but as soon as he did, he didn't hesitate a single second and threw me the ball. I couldn't believe it! I made my try, but it was so poor...not even the screen. He looked at me, with a "dont worry" expression, and grabbed another ball to continue his warm up. ....you know? ...I dared to ask for a 2nd try! When he understood my 2nd request, his expression wasn't anymore the same, but a bit bothered. Nonetheless, he suddenly passed me the ball for the 2nd time, but unfortunately also this one went very poor. It was enough, and I thanked him. He then made a deed to mime how I should have shot better. All that in front of 15.000 of audience. He was incredibly friendly. Few months later, he decided to start his journey in the Nba and what happened at the 2nd game? Celtics won at Chicago with a Brian Shaw's last second shot, with the Bulls (who would win the first title at the end of that season) losing the second match after losing the 1st one. Brian Shaw was guarded by Michael Jordan .....and I couldnt believe that someone who passed me a basketball in front of 15.000 people, won a game to Michael Jordan in Chicago, beating him directly. You cannot imagine how outside Usa we used to watch at Nba stars in those years. They were seen literally as aliens anyway Brian is such a good person, and I was very sad when I got to know his painful story in the family
I’ve always respected Brian Shaw as a player and champ. I didn’t realize he was old enough to play with Bird-so he went from the era of Bird to MJ to Shaq and early Kobe. That’s a long career!
Wow! Great stories from Shaw. Bird and McHale, Shaq and Penny, Shaq and Kobe, his contract negotiations with the Celtics. The trash talking that goes on in practice and the games. Gotta love it.
Oh so we cant even talk about the Pacers. The Kobe injury, Millers gamer. That Finals was closer than most will ever realize. Its a damn good thing Kobe came back.
Great stuff!!!! I hated Brian Shaw when he was with the Heat (hated the Heat period) but have come full circle on this gentleman....He's a great listen!!!!
No one ever talks about Kobe Dad playing in the NBA. Kobe died and they didn’t even let his father speak at his funeral. The NBA mad disrespectful for never speaking about that
I agree with you 1000 per cent- Jellybean Bryant was a 6 9 forward who had a heck of a game and made Kobe who he was. Not to mention his parents and his sisters at Kobe’s funeral was ultimate disrespect.
Lifetime Celtics here. Always loved BShaw’s energy and really enjoyed this great insight. There is a lesson in this for the Celtics two greats - Tatum and Brown. Brown has all the athleticism of MJ, but needs to get better in crunch time. He is bumblefingers when he tries to drive at the end of games - I think his mind races. He also misses free throws at crunch time. He fills up the stat sheet for three quarters, then struggles. So have him be the man with Tatum for 3 quarters, then start putting the ball in the hands of the guys whose minds don’t speed up, and have Brown shift to a playing style that is more tolerant to mind spins (post ups, pick and roll, 2 man game with Porzingas). End the turnovers that give up leads and they will win the title.
Watching Celtics Knicks tonight you see exactly what I mean. Celtics have a 17 point lead in the 4th quarter and Brown misses three hardworking bunnies from point blank range and a wide open three. Needs to work on that but just go to a post game with Horford, Tatum, Porzingis, and White.
Great to hear the old stories from B.Shaw, Penny Hardaway was cold. He was such a talented player from the moment that he came into the league! That 72-10 Bulls team was loaded and they had some of the best defensive players in the league! PG13 gotta get some more players from the 90s on his show… So much the public doesn’t know because there was no social media back then! 👍🏽🙏🏽
fire episode as always P. love the insight with young players currently in the league but also the perspective from older players too. that's why this podcast is the best basketball podcast
I’m not a clippers fan but, honestly I want all the cats on that team to get a ring
Dam bro you a glazer lmaoooo
But they're not arguing and yelling at each other. I thought that was a law for sports talk shows.

And he is now an assistant coach of the Clippers, amazing career
So who is his LT. DAN?
😂😂😂😂
Him horry and Steve Kerr and then for this genretuon Shaq has been the glue for a lot of guys and now idk cp maybe
Super underrated comment 🔥

Dude that story on how Phil’s coaching style was with Kobe and Shaq is absolutely genius
That Kobe & JR Rider story never gets old man. JR doesn't admit to this day but insiders like Shaw know that Kobe cooked his ass so bad that day. My forever GOAT, he never backed down from any challenge. Rest easy Bean ⭐
Lol..imagine a coach these days stopping practice so his players could settle their shit. That's Phil Jackson for you.
I swore JR told this story on KG's podcast.
Phil’s answer to Paul George’s question would be comparison is the killer of joy
Jerry scored 46 vs Kobe!!! Brian Shaw didn’t tell when he told Kobe n word we don’t know you!!

B Shaw is the chillest dude, I could here him talk all day

As well as iverson, Glen Rice, Steve Smith reggie Lewis
I love the fact that B Shaw could tell the Kobe and Shaq stories. This was a great interview.

Tex Winter sounds like a basketball genius. Many players talk very highly of Tex Winter.
