Hey all, there are three books that I forgot to mention that are really good. The first one is "Emotional Design" by Don Norman: amzn.to/3p0yB0r The other two are "How to Draw" amzn.to/3cRNuja and "How to Render", amzn.to/2N82S09 both by Scott Robertson Enroll in my online industrial design course, Form Fundamentals: bit.ly/3EYVU3X Learn visual storytelling, design language, and form. Make a killer portfolio and land your dream job: bit.ly/335vsqO
Scott robertson is so talented in sketching and rendering, also he has a great channel here on youtube. Thanks for the recommendations, so useful since I want to develop a reading habit asap.
Hi, I love your videos. I’m an engineer and never thought design would be so complex. Always thought it was only a matter of being creative. I was so wrong and I learned it by watching your videos. Thanks and congratulations! I would like to see a video about paint scheme design. Is it anything similar to the physical design of pieces? I’m building an airplane and I started to design the paint scheme for it. It’s turned out to be a big challenge. Appreciate any thoughts on that. If you like, I could send some pictures of the design so you can make a video about it. There is a huge community in aircraft home building that would love to see it! Thanks
I think what you are referring to is Color, Material, & Finish (CMF) design. It's a very important and overlooked area of design. I might do a video on it!
what do you usually do as an engineer specifically ? im currently studying a design course and i think engineers could do designing too, probably even better lol
Thanks you soo much ...this is Great and useful, I did read How to Draw and How to render and they are great for teaching drawing and rendering skills, and now on the design of everday things. Will continue with the other books you mentioned
do you think its easy to get a job in the product design field ? im unsure if theres any other jobs i can do other than being an industrial/product designer. with an education background in product design, is it possible to have other pathways too?
It's hard to get a job in product/industrial design. Not impossible by any stretch...but it is competitive. There are many other fields you can specialize in if you decide you don't want to do industrial design. Check out my video "The End of Traditional Industrial Design & Transition Into a New Future" (I posted it a few months ago) if you want to learn more about that
I never thought I'd say this in a million years, but PCs are more stable than Apple with most design software. Apple's hardware is also very fragile and very hard to repair. This wasn't the case as recently 6 or 7 years ago, but it is now.
@@Design.Theory That would suck for me, I started with PC in 89, 91 switched to Mac, never looked back, I recently retired as a Graphic Designer, gettinb into industrial design as a hobby, thank you for all of your videos.
Bruh center focus the camera, it is very annoying to look at one part of the screen more. Just forget abt the compositional rule while making a video like this
3:55 I love this book. Had it during my year 1 of architectural school and helped a lot in spacing things out... God bless Rowena and the author.

Ahh i'm always looking for good books on design that aren't "a 1000 designer chairs" hahah
agreed. these are good for understanding the fundamentals.
i wonder why chairs got so popular in design lol.
Your channel perfectly fits my needs. Cant thank you enough. Got a good job and your advice helps me out a lot.
Thanks for following for so long :)
Awesome! Eagerly waiting for your official course 😍✨
Me too!!
My favorite channel of 2021 Gracias John
"Don't schleep on the Schneiders." hahaha thanks for the shoutout!
never schleep on the schneiders.
I think also you could make a video about channels, pages and people to follow for learning and inspiration
That's a great idea! Maybe I'll do that next.
Every since I read about the Norman Door (no relation), I am obsessed with them.
Going through the archives, thanks for the suggestions
Glad you like them!
I think some of these books will help me to better understand design generally :D Thanks! (I am a industrial engineer.)

Nice! Was just asking for some books on Reddit. I'd add Less is More by Dieter Rams. I know, it's not an essential book, but damn how inspiring it is!
Thanks for checking it out. I'll have to pick up the Dieter Rams book. Thank you :)
Thanks for sharing
Hey, nice content...Please make some videos on How should I design mechanical joints in product design...
why will you switch over to PC?
I need more computing power for the work I'm doing. A lot of the programs I use are really not ideal on an Apple machine. Also, I hate the keyboard.
Hey can you suggest books for improving aesthetic 3d forms or how we can improve look and feel of product.
I'm currently making a course on it right now because there doesn't really seem to be a good resource for it.

You're most welcome
thank you

@@Design.Theory Yeah I agree with that
Very nice video, thank you. For the love of God, don't switch to PC, unless you're planning to use Solidworks or Inventor :).
I have to make the switch :(

@@marcoss6212 Thank you for watching them! Mac used to be A+ but their OS does not support a lot of the tools I use :(
@@Design.Theory I figured it was a professional decision.
It would be nicer if the video is not over exposed. It was hard to see the content on some of the books when the video looks washed out.
yea, i screwed up
@@Design.Theory lol no worries John, You can fix that in post next time.

Funny you mention that, a better pitch on pens is coming soon
