When you got confused with Manny having a family, it was shown in the first movie. Where Manny, Sid, Diego, and that baby was in that cave full of art, Manny was looking at his past, where his wife and his child was killed by humans.
If u think Elle thinking she is a possum is Radom, just wait for the 4th movie, the history is SO random but enjoyable, actually the most hated ice ages movies by tje fandom are the 4th and 5th, BUT I enjoy, not as much the 1st movies but still amazing

Instead,I loved the 5,I love the color pattern of the movie,the story,the formula,the adventure,Buck is back,Scrat is again funny as hell,Julian is wholesome,villains are great,the natural catastrophe is again the main threat,there's no heavy and that evident cliches,maybe one,and it's parents that don't want lose their daughter because she marries and leaves them,but it's not that stereotypical,I think it works well and I enjoy it

This movie has such a nostalgia, and I'm sure you'll like the rest and what will follow in the next movies After you finish watching all the movies with ice age. You can watch the movie Tinkerbell but only if you want but I'm telling you, the movie is very cool :))))))))))

There are two TV specials (about 30 minutes each): a Christmas one (takes place after the 3rd movie) and an Easter one (takes place after the 4th movie). I recommend watching them in your own time, after the movies I stated. You don't need to watch them to watch the movies, but you do need to watch the noted movies to watch them. They are fun extras.

I must say, I *love* Ellie but looking back on this sequel, it is very... weak. Storyline-wise and your lecturing of Ellie brings that up too. Also, the dramedic/harsher tones of the first movie were completely done away with to force a more Lighter and Softer tone plus very little references to the first movie - like i dunno THE BABY - makes the movie feel almost standalone and it's a sequel! The lack of true emphasis given to Manny's lost family is missing here as well - cave painting scene IA1 - to the point that the latter movies after this barely note it. I am the biggest fan of these movies (Ice Age 1 is like my most favourite ever) but the sequels just don't match up to the first one. I wish to this day they'd kept the humans a part of the series + the dark tone, cos there was stuff they could've explored in a more dramatic way like Diego being seen as a traitor by other sabres for instances or more exploration of how the rest of the animals viewed the "weirdos" who made up the herd and gossiped about how Manny and Diego and Sid returned the baby. /sigh
I wanna see those ideas now! I would say that it would also be better if the writers chilled out on giving all the original 3 characters love interests and kids. Like Manny? Hard disagree. It may not be as good as the first one but Meltdown was definitely NOT weak. Especially when compared to Collision Course. Ice Age 2 is my favourite of the sequels and doesn't deserve the hatred
