People say Eddie Guerrero's passing was a trigger. His sister in-law made a great point on Jericho's podcast: Ray Traylor, Johnny Grunge, Bad News Allen, Bam Bam, Chris was losing alot of his friends in a very short period of time.

As someone who’s dealt with grief, this is the answer I tend to lean towards. A lot of studies out there about the effects of grief (and extreme stress in general) on the brain. Your best friend dies, your marriage is on the rocks, and then the rest of your friends start dropping left and right all in a very short period. The quote that stuck out to me from Sandra was that his vibe was less “who’s next?” and more “am I next?” I think this is the closest to a human perspective we’ll ever get on his mentality at the time.

@@TheMrDwillison have you watched the Percy Pringle shoot conducted by Jim Cornette? When Percy was talking about his wife's cancer diagnosis and the loss of a grandchild, his weight was at its worst. At one point he said "I was dying." Depression is real. Grief is real.

I'm with you on that, He lost a part of him...Eddie was like his brother.
Eddie death was what put him over the Edge....He already had CTE and was going through issues secretly...but Eddie's death was the one that broke the camels back.
It was a little of everything happening in his brain all at once.

The Chris Benoit in 1990's would never do this...his brain was so messed up and combined that with losing 3 of his bestfriends...he lost it.
Yeah what he did was Evil but he was still not in his right mind.

They can blame steroids. They can blame CTE. Fact is Chris was slipping because of all of that, but Eddie dying ultimately pushed him to the point and he was gone before he actually did the most unthinkable act a person could do to his own family. But hate him or love him he was 1 of the best in-ring performer’s in wrestling history. It’s too bad everything happened how it happened . I wish Chris had sought help before and after Eddie died. Obviously he was battling a lot of inner demons and he never addressed it before it got to the point where it got to.

I started watching wrestling when I was 7. Got hardcore into it when Hall and Nash jumped to WCW. Stayed hardcore until I stopped watching all together in August 2004 because Benoit dropped the title to Randy Orton.
That's how big of a fan I was of him. After he dropped the strap I figured he wouldn't get another run, the new "kliq" was taking over, time to tune out for awhile.

Here's how I have long envisioned the Benoit tragedy occurring several times in my own mind; and this is obviously purely speculation...
Its been said that Chris and Nancy's marriage had been in turmoil on and off since the passing of Eddie Guerrero and maybe a little before that. It has also been said that Nancy wanted Chris to step away from wrestling and maybe call it a career. I think on that weekend between the previous house show in Beaumont, Texas after which Chavo and Chris came off the road and last saw one another and the subsequent Vengeance: Night of Champions pay-per-view in Houston, Texas, it was an argument between Chris and Nancy that weekend that simply escalated into something unimaginable. I think maybe it could have been any number of things that were said to set Chris off (which is not an excuse...there is no excuse) and perhaps he had been drinking heavily or amped up on something and he snapped. I'm thinking maybe pressure to come off the road for good, maybe a marriage in a really bad place, Chris's endless obsession with Eddie's death, maybe even a threat to take the kids and leave led to Benoit doing something he could not take back. Maybe Nancy said something to the effect of Chris spending more energy on his dead best friend than on the family he still had and he took it as a slight on Eddie? This is how I've always pictured it spiralling into what it did and once Chris killed his wife, he felt like there was a point of no return and he would then have to kill Daniel and himself. It's all so insane. I never believed it was premeditated though. Not for a minute. I think it was a moment of rage that turned into a complete horror, fuelled by alcohol, pills, or other substances. For as great as he was, Chris wiped out his entire legacy and we should definitely celebrate Nancy Benoit...aka. the lovely and cunning, Woman...on her own merits. She was a household name long before he was!

They were fighting over a life insurance policy. Chris had taken out a 25,000 dollar life insurance policy on the 3 kids and named his ex-wife as the benefactor over Nancy. Nancy took it as Benoit didn't think Nancy was capable for caring for the kids if something had happened to him.

@@GrimspecteR. the investigation itself was a lack of investigation due to the pd. I'm not fool enough to say he did or didn't do it. But.... like my brothers death the local pd didn't give a fuck and based on their lack of investigation. My brothers death was ruled a single vehicle drunk driving accident... when the fact is he was murdered during a drag race on a country bridge fighting for the love of a woman against her abusive ex husband. My point is... the local pd didn't care enough to look at the facts on the table... it's just easier for them to write it off as what they call it. If you look at the evidence itself... you can see... somethings just don't line up with the poor investigation. I'm not justifying anything I'm just saying... poor intelligence from a pd can leave a family in shambles... and when I look at at the facts in the benoit case... some things just don't add up. (I won't go Into specifics) but with all due respect.. stfu unless you can solve the case. Yours... like mine is nothing more than... an opinion. Some things in life are never proven. I don't like the we lost phrasing here for Chris. Chris Benoit brutally murdered Nancy and then murdered Daniel then killed himself, it didn't just happen, particularly with how many fans are getting about this I don't think what happened should be whitewashed in anyway. I wouldn't be as bothered if we used the Euphemism just in regards to Nancy and Daniel, but Chris shouldn't just be lumped in with them in a passive voiced way. She was saying he wasn't a good father and needed to be more involved. She told her friend a week before that she was worried Chris might do something. It was a crazy read. She would hide his prescriptions from him and it would piss him off. He'd call her and tell her what to cook even though he wouldn't be there. They both had prescriptions for Soma's and Xanax. They had a safety deposit box that had a recording of a detective investigating Benoit's name popping up on a prescription drug seller who sends Benoit steroids. Lots of guys have taken chair shots and more and never killed anyone. I think the focus on CTE today is overkill in many ways. It gets used as a reason to reduce physicality nowadays, but physicality is the nature of the beast. All of the men and women in the business of wrestling know this from Day 1. Same with Football. It feels more like an excuse people who don't like tackling and the rough nature of the sport use to crap on it than to advocate. Nobody wants to see touch football though and nobody wants to see wrestling that looks soft. It's a touchy issue.
As for Mick's Hell In A Cell match being stopped in 2022. Would it really have been? Look what WWE recently allowed Cody Rhodes to do in said Cell; and those injuries came BEFORE the match!

I don't think that CTE caused him to do what he did.
If repeated severe concussions caused him too go off the deep end then why isn't this sort of thing happening with racing drivers, especially ones who competed in the 60's 70's and 80's when the concepts of "driver fitness" and "post concussion care" really didn't exist?
Richard Petty has told many stories about times when he had concussions so severe that he couldn't remember who he was, where he was, or his own children for months at a time.

      It's called a Risk Factor.
Not all people who experience poverty or child abuse or have mental illness become criminals, but if you examine the prison population in pretty much any country, you'll find a vast overrepresentation of inmates who grew up in poverty and/or experienced child abuse and/or have mental illness.
It's the same thing with CTE. Not all people who have it will commit horrendous crimes, but there is definitely a link between between CTE and what Benoit, Aaron Hernandez, and a bunch of others did.

Ok if this was truly investigated correctly, here's a few facts that makes me believe it was a set up, 1. There was empty beer bottles and cans in the trashcan no alcohol in anyone's system, why wasn't those tested for DNA who drank em? 2. Who was at the door and who was the scuffle with? 3. If you're gonna commit "S" your not gonna care if your neck gets bruised did he tape the towel or someone else? 4. Why would he have to tell Chavo the address he was just there and knew where Chris lived at. 5. Who was following him? 6. Who let the dogs out? 7. The investigator said the four dry blood on Benoit s fingers and nose instead of testing for DNA, the moved the body, straight to autopsy n then suddenly that blood was disappeared, why? And where did the dried blood go? 8. Where did the mysterious knife come from? Nothing adds up lots of unanswered questions, and the case needs reopened and PROPERLY investigated correctly! And clear Benoit's name! Test the bottles n cans! And dust for fingerprints! They didn't even do that!

@@Nostalgia9478 I watched WWF/E in the 1990s/2000s and I honestly found Chris Benoit to be mostly bland.
Virtually no charisma, no mic skills, was unremarkable whether he was playing heel or face, etc. He did have intensity in his matches sure but I never cared about them because I had no interest in him as a wrestling character.
This is apparently an unpopular opinion, but when he was alive, he was not a major draw. In his 7 years with the company, he only got one Main Event push as WHC in 2004. He spent most of his career on the mid card for a reason.
It's trendy in wrestling internet circles to yak on about how much you love someone's in-ring work, but it's charisma and entertainment value that draws and creates superstars. The Rock didn't become an icon because of his in-ring work, it was because he was able to make a crowd pop simply by lifting the mic to his lips.. they'd go wild before he even said a word.
Ditto for Stone Cold. The roof would blow off as soon as you heard the glass shatter.
I loved Eddie Guerrero because it was hilarious to watch him trolling his opponents, he got really into whatever gimmick or storyline he was involved in, etc.
Kurt Angle was a legit wrestler with a gold medal - sure, but that wasn't what made him great in pro wrestling imo, he was great because he was also entertaining, especially as a heel. He made you love to hate him.

Logically thinking about it, your scenarios could have happened, but they probably didn't and to think otherwise is to hopefully think he didn't do it. But there was no reason for anyone to murder him and his family. But it makes sense a distraught, and not in a proper mental state, Benoit had a argument with his wife about a separation and he didn't want that to happen. So what happened happens in a lot of marriages. He couldn't stand losing his wife and family and stability and in a small way face. He was distraught his first wife got a lot of money in that divorce and he figured it would be even worse now with his success and their lifestyle would probably taken a big chunk of his income. Any chance of early retirement would be out the window and his life wouldn't be the same. It happens a lot where a husband cant stand losing all that so they instead try to find a way out. We were all fans of Benoit mostly but there is no sense trying to find ways to explain what could of happen and instead deal with what did happen. A mother and child murdered and a father committed suicide. That is what we have and what happened was tragic but not unfortunately an uncommon occurrence.
