I felt like I was the only one that thought the older version was way more artistically cinematically and better in my opinion. Glad I’m not the only one.
I think it is way better. In many of these remasteres that become more and more popular today I am not that impressed. I like AOE2 DE, but there are things that are definitively worse. Like the voice acting and the drawings in the campaigns. I bought Command and Conquer Remastered and ended up playing it like it was, there are still some quality of life features (like chosing the level you want to play), but overall it doesn't really look better.

The original is moody and surprisingly more dynamic. The British Office plants his flag as the camera pans up, the Train noticeably accelerates as the camera zooms on it's wheels, the Native skirmisher runs trough a shadowy forest, not trough a well lit clearing, etc.
Definitely. Much more atmospheric.

The original one was way darker. I don't know why but it looks better to me.
That's exactly what I thought. There were also some "shots" that I found stylistically better. Like the camera moving upwards from the boot of the solider.
I think it is because, you could see way less. Either because it was much worse resolution, or because it was darker/foggier. So all those imperfections weren't visible. I guess now they wanted to show off their new improved quality. Which is nice but definitely not Triple AAA game quality (which obviously a miniature game does not need)

I do like how at 1:01 they featured the oriental ships in the DE trailer. Represents the Asian dynasties well
The original AoE 3 had more than 1 intro (I think one for the original and one for asian dynasties im not sure about the warchiefs expansion)
When AOE 2 DE was just released, many people said that the og has better graphics, same in AOE 3 DE. I guess we are not fans if we don't bitch about everything.

The old one is just so much better, much more cinematic and alive. I don't know what were they thinking when decided to downgrade the effects on the new one, it feels so bland and cartoonish. If both of them have the same video quality I would have said the new one is the old one because of how weak it feels, like a beta intro.

I know, right? It lacks the punch of the original and it's just inferior overall. Also Hella oversaturated
But at the very least it's really easy to change the camera angles to fit the original... It seems a bit more static and less dramatic.@@darassylmoniakam
I don't think they were intending to downgrade it. Instead I think the idea was to "make it look better" by replacing the models and textures with higher resolutions ones, but got lazy when it came to editing, animating, and lighting
Age of Empires has such epic intros.
Honestly, the change wasn't that big, at least when compared to AoE II and AoE II DE, which is kinda sad, but I mean AoE III already looked good, apart from the overdone bloom, but that's neither here or there

@@T-West Yes, but the point of side by side is to make it easy without doing all of hassle and it’s hard to make it sync if you change between tabs you know
i am some one who does not talk with nostalgia , since i never played the game.
They did not change things beyond recognision and show the same content as seen in the old intro.
The only big thing that changed is the graphics wich look really good imo.
The biggest change in my opinion is body physics. Old ones moved like puppets. I prefered drawings of aoe2 over aoe3 because of the puppet feel at that time, they looked cartoony. They improved them a lot in the new one.

I like both, they have their own personally. Like the update models and cutscenes as well the power and well put together cutscenes. To be honest they don't have the much time with cutscenes. They were more focus on the game play. Also everyone will have problems with AoE III DE. I will say the thing I like was Sweden being added after hearing about them I was just happy. You can complain about the intro all you want I think is fine.
it's the same game, so it makes no sense to each have "their own personality"

While I'm not a pro player, I played this franchise for as long as I can remember (one of the reasons I became a gamer ) . So I will have to say while I like some of the features the old version has over the DE, I still prefer the new one because of the new lock. Unfortunately alot of people are complaining and the same happened when AOE 2 DE came out.
Intro is just the beginning, like no strelets firing, but instead some British soldiers fire from the right side of the screen so the audio works fine still, but "end of act" cinematics lack so much of that audio punch in several moments it alsmost feels like lipsync in out of place or generally the video is too slow/fast like 0.5 seconds. Original cinematics looked ok, but had that feeling to them, these are just ugly.

It always gives me goosebumps when they do that close shot of the train in the original, but DE is just meh

New one has better resolution and better models. Old one has better editing, lighting and animations. The camera angle and shot adjustments in the new one lose something, and the animations feel more stilted

The old one is much better. The train scene especially is so much better in the original. Shame. The entire game doesn't look much better, improved resolutions and textured alone don't make a game atmospheric

Well, as far as I can tell from an outsider's point of view (I live in Germany), it seems to be already quite an achievement in America if you can release any media portraying the Colonial Era and Native Americans WITHOUT causing any masked and hooded goons to go out in the street and randomly break windows and burn cars.
