The graphics were considered realistic when this game was released. I was amazed by these graphics back then. I have never before seen such cool effects from gunfire like masts getting broken and holes in ship hull. GameSpy said back then that the graphics were "unmatched". It received "Best Graphics" award" and "Game of the year 2005" award by GameSpy. So no complaining about graphics :) I had to play this game with lowest settings so it could run smoothly.
I could not even do that on my Pentium 4 when watching naval battles. The game would lag down to 1-0.5fps during ship combat. It was not until I got a new NVidia graphics card could I actually play this game in all it's graphical glory.
Llamanator who the hell would say that, age of empires IIIs graphics are amazing even by today standars...strategy games aren't known for its graphics usally...as due to the size of all the units ,they don't botter making them detailed + to avoid using too much data
G Studios It is not the polygons or textures that count in an RTS but rather its effects. Like the OP said you had bits of ships falling into the water (which the water itself is the best any one had seen until Crysis came along), musket smoke as a volley was fired, cannon balls that actually kept rolling after they landed based on the direction of the landscape. if you turned a setting on even the buildings would have pieces fly off them when shot by a cannon that was directly related to where it was shot, to the particle counts that were ground breaking at the time. tracks in the dirt from units marching, most of these things starcraft 2 does not even have these days.
I remember just when I could afford a powerful laptop in 2008 I was able to maximize its graphics settings. And man, was I so proud! I enjoyed the Havoc engine doing its work: smoke by the gunpowder or the trains, ships and buidlings tearing into pieces, the buildings bursting into fire. Such a feast for the eye!
For the record, Morgan Black probably looked old because the fountain water was diluted with lake water, thus removing the "youthful look" side of the water's effect.
Boneguard, circle's elite soldiers. Wow....Warrick says, "Fools, the powder!" Both soldiers tried to shoot John but shot each other instead. Just...wow..
I remember this so clearly as if it was yesterday: I was a little kid, sitting in the back of the car with my mother driving and my older brother besides. Me and my brother were holding our own copy of this game (We had 2 copies so we would be able to play against each other). I remember the exact street on which we were driving. And I remember my brother saying that he was so proud and delighted that Age of Empires was still going on because we both loved AoE II. My brother didnt like AoE III. so much as the majority of the AoE fan-community. But I loved it somehow. It wasnt as good as AoE II. But it was very close. And good in a different way. The story was very exciting and thrilling in particular... It's so nice to re-watch all these sequences. It feels like you are the same young kid sitting on your chair and having fun while playing this game. It's saturday night and the nostalgia hits back again...
I knew that he was Morgan Black, which had me excited and confused enough, but I never put together his old age and the fountain of youth until now. I also never really thought about the time that passed between the generations, which, if I did, may have had me thinking about something odd with Morgan Black living that long. Still a great game in my opinion, with a great storyline. :-)
You know it's funny how he's been alive all this time, and yet still didn't tell his family about the circle and how to defeat them. His grandson, and son died(I hated how pathetic his son was).
meepo44fromroblox i got suspicious as soon as he said "and only in one lifetime" + totally avoided the question to explain it =P,had to look it up to confirm though
huh. didnt realise old coot was the knight from first campaign until now. did suspect he had the water tho from his last comment. aoe 3 had quite a nice story
@@Ridgwaycer "at the height of their power at the time." Is just another way of saying that their boom was over and they started declining. The age of exploration brought incredible income and advancements to the European countries, while the Ottomans got none of it. Worse yet, with the new trade routes the spices from India started flowing into another direction, through the seas around Africa, which, meant even more money for Europe, and less for the Ottomans, as they lost the taxing ability on those goods.
In the beginning of Act 3, Amelia calls the old coot (who certainly is Morgan Black, which is fascinating in the history) of "old timer" and was very rude with him, demonstrating she is stuck-up... and I thought XIX Century women were more polite. lolololol But Amelia Black is a great heroin, determinated and a good person, and I think the Act III (Steel) it's the best act in all Age of Empires III, that I ever played, followed by the Act I (Blood), with Morgan Black, the Act II (China) in Asian Dynasties and all the remaining Acts. This campaign had some great memories, I was just replaying it after like, 8 years, its funny how cheesy some of the plot points and cutscenes are (especially coopers death u fking serious!) but the overall story is fucking sick!
Usually Wather Of Youth works like that in stories. Extra 250 to be correct, because Morgan's Act is at the end of XVI century (Siege of Malta is year 1565), and end of Act III is beginning of XIX (Boliviar's revolution is in 1810's). In that matter, Morgan must have drank the water, because his grandson is 20-40 years old in 1750's (there is 190 years between Act I and Act II. It's more than one generation, unless you live unnaturally long). Sorry for mistakes. English isn't my first language.
Of course, anyone familiar with the history of guns knows that the game's storyline was anachronistic with the use of breech-loading firearms, as most, if not, all armies phased out of them in favor of lever-action rifles by the industrial revolution, until they would be replaced by bolt-action rifles by 1879. It would've been cool if just that one little thing was replaced by the industrial age and the imperial respectfully. All the more reason this game needs a sequel.
Yes, they were used in the US but the armies of Europe didn't use it. The first bolt action rifles were adopted by the Prussians in 1841. Also keep in mind that the early lever actions were all single shot. Repeaters didn't really become common until quite late. For example the Germans adopted a new single shot rifle in 1871. Even later repeaters were sort of looked as optional. The French Lebel 1886 had for example a cut-off switch, the magazine was only supposed to be used in emergencies.
Its also a bit lame that Muskeeters never adopt the bayonet. But then again, that might have made Pikemen totally useless - because that's what happened in reality with the shift from Pike and Shot to large armies of musketeers with bayonets.
My favorite strategy game ever made alongside BFME. Just noticed now she called him "Uncle Kanyenke", he wasn't her uncle lol, he was further out, Amelias father was Nathaniel Black who was the son of John Black Amelias grandfather, meaning Kayenke was a grandpa in act III as it was a 3 generation thing... But yeah... Bloody good game i have played non stop, its still legendary.
But to be immortal you have to drink this wather regularly. Morgan used just this little bottle, which gave him extra 200+ years. So, with scottish accent, and hairstyle it's Morgan. And, watch this clip once again, and tell me, how John could escape from there? Whole mountain felt, and he was grounded by that solider.
obviously he's aging, so it's rather likely that to be immortal you have to drink the water at regular intervals; which Morgan can't as the source is destroyed. hence he'll probably die of old age, but it will take a much longer time than normal
@w20089 nonono, that drop he had was from his tankard, they didn't show you the part where he drinks the fountains water and fills his tankard with it, because they want to keep everything mysterious;)

either that or it's not eternal, it just prolongs each stage of your life unless you keep drinking it.
Or he just drank it once and never again. Maybe if he drank it once every month he would live up to this day.
Yes, he probably drank 25-30% percent of the Fountain of Youth's remnant water, and lived an extra 100+ years longer than his usual life span.
@@gtone339 he lived 300 years longer
@@strechypants313 More like 200+ yrs since he met his Great Grand daughter Amelia Black in the mid 1800's/19th century.

they are making a new one
Damm, they better dont put those circle of ossus in it, devils!
same man i got my first computer when i was 8 played this alot
BLACK PILLED it’s been a year still no news of Age of Empires 4
there wasn't a single age of empires (And first i played mythology) that i haven't played...and the 3 just had the most charming story imo...

morgan probably got a huge mindfuck when technology develops over 5 generations. i'm surprised he didn't go insane from the amazement
Its definetly Morgan Black at the end
The ending of Act II is so good.
