I know how frustrating it is when your trying to line things up and they won’t go in then just when your ready to throw something it lines up and slides in surprisingly easy. Thanks for showing people that it’s not easy to do such work yourself or when you hire someone to do the work be appreciative for their skills 🍻
Thank you for your comment. Yes, you never know what you are getting yourself into when you start a project. Most times I uncover other issues. The trick is to take your time and fix everything that you find, while it is apart.
Lotts of awkward lifting and maneuvering. When I work on our Mini Cooper transmissions, I use a, make-shift, ratchet strap sling to help support the weight, then I have two hands to wiggle it in place. Great video showing it can be done.
Thank you for your comment. I thought about supporting the reduction gear as you suggested but decided I would try brute force. I'm not sure which was the right way.
It is almost easier to remove the whole transmission. Holding the reduction housing while upside down is not easy. most of the particulate matter is either attached to the magnet glued to the bottom of the transmission case or just part of a layer of sludge. I don;t recall you showing the actual replacement of the bearings. I put them on an alum. bake pan and stick them in a 250 oven for an hour.
Thank you for your comment. Yes, I think this will cost about 1/3 of what it would have cost to replace the entire transmission with a rebuilt one. I am happy with this solution.
