I've had "Rosanna" by Toto on my list of songs to cover for years, and I finally made a video! Yayy!
Jeff Porcaro was the drummer on the original "Rosanna" studio track, and the groove of this song is legendary. While paying tribute to Jeff, my version of this is also very heavily influenced by how Simon Phillips played this song live with Toto for many years.

RIP Jeff Porcoro he was a great drummer and did a excellent job at playing the drums for Toto. He was replaced by Simon Phillips who is another famous drummer.

@MikeHetzel WOW!!!! 😵🤯👏👏👏👏 that is extraordinary! I have played the drums for about 35 years (sadly not at your level - more of what I’d call a very serious amateur). And Jeff has been my no.1 idol and inspiration for as long as I can remember. So of course I know how hard it is a to get the nuances and groove/flow of this song right. Not only do you do that but the fills you have added are so tasteful and cleanly executed - they just sound like very musical enhancements to the song. I’m sure some will rant on me for saying this but I actually prefer your interpretation to versions I have heard with Simon Philips who I also love and revere as a drummer but the style of your fills just fits this song better to my ears.
On a more specific note I’d love to know the EXACT specification of your Masterworks kit (especially the shell sizes, thickness/plys/composition, edges and hoops). Could you please post it here? I have a Pearl Masters Maple Gum kit and I have been considering ordering a Masterworks kit and have a reasonably good idea of how I’d spec it but it is easy to get caught up in slight indecision with all the choices! Your kit here sounds absolutely superb and a carbon copy of the ideal drum sound I hear in my head. Of course that will also be down to your mic’ing and mixing skills not just the drums but that sound clearly starts with a great instrument.

Another awesome video. Just curious, have you ever meet todd sucherman? I saw him do a clinic at guitar center in country club hills Illinois a couple years ago. I love my Metallica and lars Ulrich. But I have to say Todd sucherman is probably my favorite. Just love his style and drum sound and Technique . By the way, love the flurtas.

Mike, you pretty much drummed the song the way Jeff originally recorded it, but I noticed you threw in some of your own chops on occasion. Your grooves, fill-ins and chops were executed flawlessly......as usual. Once again, great job! 👍
