Actually if you do your research a lot of stations in the small towns were already closing in the late 70's , as much as the ANC is useless we give them too much credit sometimes.
All around these Dorpies you can see other areas being built up of Cheap housing with some facilities for Humans so that's where the money is going which didn't happen in the days of Apartheid when lots of monies were spent on whites only Dorpies yes corruption is also there so was corruption ( Apartheid)in the Old Days
These three comments all have a political angle. In case you haven't noticed, ours is a TRAVEL channel as our channel name very clearly suggests. We keep politics entirely out of our videos and will continue doing so. 🚙😁
Wow! What a magnificent church! And the hymn Eternal Father was so appropriate for today which is Anzac day here when we commemorate those who died in the first and second world wars. Meant so much to me. Enjoyed my visit to Warden
Poor Charles Warden, as a son of the British Resident in the OFS and a Afrikaans woman Susanna Minnaar became a loyal burgher of the Boer Republic, chief of Bloemfontein Fort and later a magistrate. Imperial soldiers arrest him when he handed over the keys of Harrismith but hide goverment registers. He died as POW in Ceylon. His sister Mary Emily Warden married Andries Wolhuter....their graves in Pietermaritzburg Voortrekkerbegraafplaas
Heard a lot about Warden glad you showed us. I am in the process of buying a bakkie again so soon I will be traveling a lot of gravel roads again. So chuffed
Hi you two! Thanks for this interesting trip. Warden is a beautiful place. Streets a little rough, but the treelined streets and neat sandstone houses make up for that. The DRC is enormous! I really love the hymn you sometimes play during your visit inside churches. The Warden station is sad to see, but maybe we should just learn to accept that as a sign of the times we live in. The Lodge is also very grand for its more than 120 years. I'll be waiting for a lift on your next excursion. Keep safe!
Ja wat kan mens se ons het al so baie daar verby gery , en net gese nie meer ver Ladysmith toe nie. Nou kan ek ook se ek weet hoe hit daar lyk. Baie dankie vir julle twee ons wazrdeer julle baie
Beautiful church once again. The lodge was full of quirky character. Well done to DustBugs on achieving 30K subscribers! I hope your channel continues to grow in leaps and bounds.
So beautiful all the churches in the small towns around SA. Full of character and nicely built. But same already starting to fall apart in 5he small towns in KZN and parts of Eastern Cape
The churches are all so well kept in these little towns and the gardens well mantained. Safe travel mercies upon you two always. Looking forward to the next. . .
The railway bridge from the beginning of the video is from 1968 when the line was regraded (less curves, less hills) in preparation for electrification in 1972.
I am also surprised with the size of the town. Thought it was bigger. But they still survive. Thank you for this trip quite informative and a huge church with lots of members. Next one I am there.
I was waiting for you guys to see the sandstone church, typing this as the intro is playing as I can already picture your reactions. Shout Out to Mnr Beukus, at Dirkies
Hi guys Warden is s place that is written in my memory and now I've been there.!!! ( i said how the farmers were saying to my pal with long hair get your hair cut lol ).as you drove in i could see myself hitching to Durban) the fields stretching for miles .Great you found the station name boards sham about the condition. The NGK CHURCH well deserved as a national monument. Love these Freestate towns with all the sandstone houses the oasis hotels was fantastic. And to top it off wors and pap .thanks for bringing back memories for me and as always thanks for taking me along cheerio till the next one
I would think that Die Voortrekker Monument and the Union Buildings are larger than that beautiful Church, both of which are constucted largely of sandstone.
The church has a beautiful domed ceiling. It looks so bright and airy. Thanks again folks * The Union building in Pretoria would probably be the biggest sandstone building - just a guess.
LOL...Warden is usually a landmark town used to mark when you need to come off the N3 to get to other parts of the Free State, especially when travelling from Joburg
Hi both. Once again many thanks for reviving old memories, I stayed in the hotel at Warden in 1978 and again in 1979 during my annual visit(s) to South Africa chasing steam locomotives. My records for 1979 show that for one night dinner, bed and Breakfast I paid R10 (TEN) and 40c, plus 40cents tax ! ! I wonder how much it would be to stay there now, 45 years later ? It was so sad to see the state of the station, back in the 1970's there was a daily mixed train taking out and bringing in all sorts of commodities and of course passengers. A piece of my old cine film is on youtube of the train leaving Warden in 1978, it was a steep climb out of town and those Class 19D locomotives in use then, certainly worked hard. Thank you once again.
Oh wow your movie with so many of the old locomotives is really fantastic. Also great camera positions from which you ‘catched’ all those trains coming around corners and out of tunnels. Seeing your last name, I would think that you are related to director Oliver Stone 😊🎥. Crazy and wonderfull, all that steam coming out everywhere, especially at 18 minutes leaving the station. I bet Curtis would have loved to take a ride out of Warden with one of those big old steal bulls from the past 🚂. Thanks for the ride and greatings from the Netherlands, the country with almost the busiest train network in the world 🚆
Steam locomotives and stations, albeit defunct and abandoned, are fascinating to us and it always warms my heart when I realise how many enthusiasts there are around the globe. 🚂🚉 A single room at Warden Lodge will set you back R490 per night in 2024 and a double will cost R980 per night. 🛏
@@DustBugsTravel Thank you Curtis and Sonia for the updated hotel prices ! ! ! ! Wow inflation, no good for anyone, I checked my note books and in 1978, one year before, I had paid spot on 9Rand (NINE) to stay in the hotel, so it was beginning to creep up in the 70's ! ! ! ! ! ! Cheers.
@@ingeborgvanderveer789 Hi Ingeborg. Thank you for you kind comment re my amateur production. I chuckled at your comment re Oliver Stone all we share is the same surname and age, although I beat him by 4 months! He is from the US and me the UK, from the county where Portland STONE comes from. Cheers.
Its so sad to see the reunions of the train stations.30 years it took Anc to destroy the country,The gardens of the stations where full of roses it was so beautiful ? and now???
We're not a political channel, so I won't ever engage in any political discussions. The destruction of the railway network is indeed very sad, but the decline started long before 1994 already. 🚉
A reminder that stations are run by the railways and not by the town and therefore should not reflect on what the town looks like but rather what the railways has not done.
Hi. Nice video. Found it accidentally. Yes, warden can be beautiful, but there is huge issues right now: muslims took over most of the town, they sell drugs. There is a huge drug problem. Houses and shops are being broken into daily, police do not stop this. They cannot. I have lived there for a few yers.
Thanks guys,that was awesome
Me and my wife grew up there in the 80s. Thanks for taking us down memory lane
I enjoy seeing all these little dorpies, but saddened by the obvious degradation - roads in tatters, stations destroyed etc, etc. a proud ANC legacy.
Actually if you do your research a lot of stations in the small towns were already closing in the late 70's , as much as the ANC is useless we give them too much credit sometimes.

Pragtig waar die Boere/Afrikaners nog in beheer is. Netjies, skoon, mooi tuine en trots op hul erfgoed

I just saw now...30k subscribers. Well done C&S. Love your channel may it grow in leaps and bounds this year. Warden pretty and clean ❤❤🎉🎉❤❤
Good to see the town as the road to Durban from Gauteng goes past it! The Free State is beautiful and especially when it has rained.

Hello again. Another town I know well. Yes Warden has taken strain for a very long time. As far back as 1977. I can imagine what it's like now.
The railway bridge from the beginning of the video is from 1968 when the line was regraded (less curves, less hills) in preparation for electrification in 1972.
A few things have changed since we stayed there. Please was called grandad then opposite school. Eventually in the pastors house
Well done guys. Great episode

Always saw signs to Warden on trips to Durban but never drove into it. Curiosity fulfilled.

Sadly, the roads aren't maintained well to drive tourism into these dropies
मकान तो 1 नंबर के बने हैं पर रोड की कंडीशन बहुत ही जर्जर और सोचनीय है। सिविल अथारिटी की गैरजिम्मेदारी दिख रहा है
