Hi you two. I am still blown away by the love you have for nature, old buildings, stations, bridges, dirt roads, and not forgetting vegetation and animals. I look forward to your vlogs. Stay safe till the next one.❤

Hi there, I was so hoping you would visit Petrus Steyn. We lived there for about three years when I was at Primary school, around 1960. My dad had his first position as Barclays Bank manager and my mom was a teacher.
When we were there, there were no tarred streets, no cinema, nothing. But we managed to entertain ourselves. My strongest memory of that time is walking in the streets after rain with mud deliciously squelching between my toes. And I had the most amazing piano teacher, Mrs Welz, for whom I had the utmost respect and love.
Apart from that I don't recognize anything, but it looks peaceful and clean which is nice to see. Thank you.

It is very encouraging to see the town so well preserved. It is a pity that the old oak tree as well as the 2 graves are not fenced off. And I love all the trees all over town.

We visited the town last year in Oct. The lady who started the Riemland petrolstation etc told us the muniscipality is bancrupt and does nothing. So the farmers gave her a budget to redone the petrolstation and they bought tractors etc to start cutting the lawn en cleaning the streets and pavements. In that building at Riemland there are a few shops within. They started with 15 staffmembers and they have now 130 people working there. Die Afrikaners se sêgoed ' As daar n wil is, is daar n weg' en ' n Boer maak n plan'. Danksy hulle is daar lewe en werk vir mense

My father worked on those railway lines, he was a "Stoom "stoker" in 1985.
I might be wrong but there was never a 506 railway line.
You guys should visit Lindley and the church there.

A bit of trivia about Sasolburg, famous for the production of oil from coal. Number plates in the old Orange Free State began with the letter 'O'. Sasolburg number plates aptly began with 'OIL'.

Great episode, I was humming the song Pampoen by Steve Hofmeyr which contains the lyrics "Vat a trein na Bloemfontein en die 506 na Petrus Steyn.." whilst watching. I agree with your closing statement re Petrus Steyn being rich in history...it most definitely is and its heartening to see that for the most part its being preserved..."Huis Silwerjare" what a stunning name for a retirement village that enjoys a five star rating, it sounds great according to the review. Sonia's concern for the baby goats highlights who she is as a person...😊

Overall a neat and clean town with an interesting history. The gem for me was the magnificent 126 year-old oak tree under which Petrus Steyn and his wife were laid to rest. I hope it lives for many more centuries! Thank you for the stop.

Hi guys a quiet town with Lots of of history loved the drive in harvesting springbok and geese. The cbd looks well supplied with shops station boards!!! And a station building that would have been great back in the day. The municipality garden was well maintained and how great the
Monuments were in good nick I love the idea of the tracks and hoof prints. The little family cemetery has not been vandalised witch is good news loved the mighty oak stunning. The old Methodists church being repurposed fantastic. NGK CHURCH Was immaculate loved the little model of the old one. Functioning sports fields!!! Beautiful stone houses and the Taal Monument fits in with the guy who translated the bible into Afrikaans nice clean town credit to the towns folk great video thanks for taking me along cheerio till the next one ( just to say I was talking to my sister and she said SA had one of the highest standards of living in the world and I must agree)

Er is niets zoals een orgel, well said Sonia 🎼.

I know Petrus Steyn very well. My parents grew up in Petrus Steyn (Ben Vorster and Louis Steyn) and my Grandfather (Hendrik Steyn) was the Burgermeester there (not sure which years) My grandmother Hessie Steyn had the Pharmacy there, and my dad's mother (my grandma) was True Marais (she married oupa Vicky Marais) and stayed on the farm Leidsville. All my aunts and uncles, cousins etc. grew up in Petrus Steyn. I still have one cousin staying there. Always went during July holidays and some December holidays to visit ouma Hessie in the Dorp and Ouma True and Oupa Vicky on the farm. This all was during the 70s. Good old times.

Your assumption that we're both Afrikaans-speaking, is completely inaccurate. I'm from an English-speaking family and I grew up in the Free State. While I'm fluent in Afrikaans, our videos will always be in English so that my elderly mother and our friends abroad can also follow our travels. 🚙

Steve Hofmeyr's 'Pampoen' mentions Petrus Steyn by name, so that was the one Sonia was referring to. 😁🎃🚂
