- You've got a sweet wireless headset but for some reason the audio keeps cutting in and out. And it always seems to happen at the most inopportune time. If you're wondering why this is happening and what to do to fix it this video just may hold the answer to that question. If you've got other USB 3.0 devices connected to your computer along with the dongle to your wireless headset then the information I learned while making this video is something you're going to want to know.

I would have probably swapped back to wired if I hadn't broken so many headsets or USB cables by standing up while wearing the headset still and just snagging it.

Man, you're a lifesaver because this was driving me crazy! I have a wireless razer headset and it happened to be plugged in next to a USB hub that had a drive connected to it. When I moved the hub I immediately noticed that my wireless headset signal range increased dramatically and I didn't have to be so close to my computer for it to work well. Thanks for sharing!

Good video, i really liked the explanation. I've been trying different locations for my dongle, and i've moved it to a front port on my PC, in a 2.0 slot, far away from my external, but i am still getting disconnects. Any thoughts?

Same i litterally just got a brand new PC so im in the phase where im testing everything out to make sure nothing is faultly, I dont have the an external but i do have a SSD and internal HDDs along with 3.0 ports. And literally on my motherboard all ports that ive plugged into i hear the headphones recognize them, but not all ports have sound play through them. And thats when i realized this mans Research to the Research has taught me things. Thanks man
F*** me dude, had this issue just now 17.01.2024! reciever (bought a razer blackshark v2 pro really cheap for the office) was plugged in near an USB SSD drive, which has a very short cable, so basically the reciever and USB drive were lying right beside each other) just moved the USB 2.4 GHz reciever to the other side of the notebook (with USB extension cable . but still used the same USB port!) - Problem gone!
So 5 Years later still a huge "thank you" for the Video!!!

My PS4 keeps asking what headset is being used every few minutes and sometimes it’ll go onto the screen and it’ll just be blue for 1 second or 2 and then it’ll go back to my game. It’s starting to get annoying because those few seconds could mess up what I was doing in a game. Fix?
So how does it work for vr headset controllers. You plug the vr headset in. But the controllers are completly wireless and to be conected with bluetooth? It doesnt use a usb port. It disconects 1 controller while i can.t turn it on while the other keeps working. Meaning i gotta reset it and then it happends again after 15min constantly

It's a few years later, but my BRAND NEW Razer Kraken 3 Pro headset is plugged into my front/top USB port and I don't have an external drive plugged in. It randomly stops receiving audio and I end up having to turn the headset off and on again to get it back (maybe if I waited long enough it would come back on it's own?). Since I use my headset primarily for video editing, this is a HUGE problem! I have to keep turning the headset off and on again, which also re-sets all of my Razer devices for some reason? Power saving mode it turned off, I've done a complete clean re-install of Synapse and still have this problem! I found this video in a google search for potential solutions, so I may be barking up the wrong tree here, but any advice?
i have a different issue, my turtle beach stealth 700 gen 2 wireless headset just randomly turns off after 2 minutes of inactivity which is really annoying... do you know how to change the auto shutdown timer settings at all?
Bless your soul. I turned off my headset and listened to this on normal speakers and followed suit. The last half never cut off once.

ik this is a old video but how do i fix this on my ps4 pro? i assume its the same problem but whether ones connected to the front and the other the back it still happens ? any help?
I I have a question about wireless adapters. I have a wireless headphones but have lost the wireless adapter that came with the headphones. The manufacturer, Kingston HyperX, does not sell replacement wireless adapters for this model (Flight) and this headphone is specific to the Xbox. Used wireless adapters online cost nearly as much as new headphones. Can I use any wireless adapter? Or is there a way to alter the headphones to accommodate a generic wireless adapter? Thank you.

If your headset is actually screwed like mine, use subtitles so you don't have to continue repeating it.

i had this issue plus laggin when i plug in my wireless headset in 3.0 but when i change its place to near internet cable,laggy sound almost fixed but it keeps disconnecting randomly.btw all my hards are internal.how do i fix it?
What about an issue where the headset starts cutting out while playing and then goes silent and then says “reconnect your controller”? Both are wireless. Turtle beach 600 headset. Not the rechargeable battery packs or controller bc the controller is new, it does it on my other controller, and does it with regular AA batteries too so I’m thinking headset issue.
Great video and I appreciate you sharing the the why. I landed here due to having issues with wireless gamepads disconnecting. I'm a software engineer and was too lazy to really get into directly finding an answer as I was sure someone else should have it scouted and explained, and possibly solved. The problem, as the Intel paper references it, basically suggests that if you have any USB 3.0 devices at all, there's an interference risk - hard drive or not.For me, that's a problem because I probably have 10+ USB devices connected in some way to my PC with 2 hubs (one 7 port), and none of them are external hard drives so...? Honestly knowing this information is great because I can judge what shifting I want to do, or just give up on any wireless device. Or maybe Use some sort of crazy extension to pull those dongles as far away from anything USB 3.0 as possible (which is pretty impossible to do these days).
Also, I feel like .5A out of USB 2.0 should be plenty for a tiny wireless receiver (not even a transmitter). I don't think that's why your range cut in half.

Run into exactly the same issue with USB 3.0 external hard drive and Bluetooth dongle with USB interface. Bluetooth headset connected to the interface suffered from poor bandwidth and dropped connection from time to time for a short but noticeable by ear period.

Sounds crazy but I have a similar issue with a ps5 where I just installed a SSD. The pulse 3d headset (which have been working perfectly until then) begins to randomly disconnect. Could it be a similar problem?
We are having a similar issue in our venue with the Steel Series Arctis Pro Wireless. We tested a set on our racing simulator and all seemed fine. We asked the company if 15 would all work in close proximity and were told it wouldn't be a problem. The minute the 15 sets arrived we are having audio cut outs. Would interference from wireless headsets in close proximity cause the same issues? Steel Series are telling us that they have numerous sets in their offices all next to each other with no issues so unsure if the PC/USB is the problem or having too much frequency clashing between the wireless headsets.
Thanks for checking out my video. That is a good question. I certainly don't consider myself an expert on this subject, I'm just a guy that had a problem and researched it until I felt I'd found the solution. That being said and based on what I've learned I think it's very possible that you're experiencing interference from too many wireless devices on the same band all running in close proximity to each other. I know my headset has a 30 foot range when running on USB 3.0 so it seems logical to me if you've got 15 headsets all within fairly close proximity to each other that you're possibly getting a lot of signal overlap/interference. Using a USB 2 port should decrease the range a little bit; not sure it will help or not but it's worth a try. If it were me I'd try running some tests to see if my hypothesis is true. First I'd try running just two headsets simultaneously near each other and see what happens. If everything is good then I'd keep adding one more at a time until one or more start cutting out. If they're cutting out on the first test then I'd move them further apart until it stops to verify they're just too close to one another. Thanks for the question. @@kabardink Well it was some time ago, but if memory serves (can't rewatch the video atm since I'm at work) the video explained that if you have other devices connected to the blue usb ports at the same time as the headset, they might interfere. I have no actual knowledge about this, I just think that's how it was. Why not just watch the video?

Moving the dongle further away from the usb3 port my external drive is plugged into had definitely improved things although I still get the occasional dropout - nothing like before though
Shot in the dark, but I was having an issue with my XBox Series X with the headset constantly disconnecting just like your headset. I pulled out the external hardrive and it started working. It wasn't a USB hardrive it was the like external nvme one. I wasn't using a headset with a dongle, but do you think that if I get a headset with a dongle on the front instead of using one that connects directly to the Xbox?

Yeah i get explaining it but can you just tell me first.....
For anyone still having an issue, because having an external drive may not be the only issue. This can be resolved in Power saving settings under the Additional Setting Tab. Click on that, head to Change Plan Setting and Disable the USB power saving option. USB Selective Suspend Settings - Enable to Disable. This cleared everything up for me and will allow you to use USB 3.0 for External HDD with any USB Wireless device

So I have a Corsair HS55 Wireless Core receiver. I do not have an external hard drive like in the video. The problem occurred about 1-2 weeks ago where my dongle was working fine and then I went out to eat and it was flashing red and unable to connect to my headset, I noticed it has the same 2.4g.hz and I am wondering if that is the issue

I have a ps4 gold new edition headset and it has a random red light when I plug it in then about 5 seconds later it turns off and my headset doesn’t work but when I plug in a aux cord it works
I have a corsair hs70 wireless headset. this thing is driving me nuts with the disconnects and crackling. when I first got these they worked great. but within a week it has a steadily gone done hill. driver updates reinstalled software. I even tried an updated version of the headset to find the same problem. My PC sits on an Asus x470 prime board and it is head to toe with USB 3.0 ports. Noise from USB 3.0 seems like a pretty uncharacteristic problem for corsair. I wonder why this issue hasn't been addressed yet?
You might want to try connecting your headset wireless dongle to you PC using a USB extension cable and see if moving the dongle away from all your USB 3.0 ports/devices makes a difference.

I have been randomly having this same issue with my RIG 700HX 2.4 ghz wireless headset, the strange thing is that it will work fine for like a month working 12-16 hrs a day with out any failure, then it will suddenly just start disconnecting randomly for apparently no reason, I have tried every suggestion in here and nothing seems to fix the issue. I have removed all but my keyboard with no change. I have double checked the power (eco) settings, drivers, etc. with no luck. Any suggestions?

I would be willing to bet it is. If you don't have other USB ports to plug into then you can plug the dongle for your headset into a USB extension cable and place the dongle just a few inches away from from where it plugs into the console and that should solve the problem. Cheers. :)

i have the same headphones, and i still have the problem im using usb extension SHIELDED cord, still have the problem, there is no external storage 2 other usb (mouse+keyboard) and nothing more... i tried front panel usb port back ones everything still disconnect-reconnects usually if the battery is between 40-95%.... any other tip?

hm.. I was hoping this would answer why my headphones won't reconnect at all. I bought the void RGB elite wireless headset the other day, and it was working fine. For some reason, after i tried to install the icue software on my mac, the headphones disconnected. The software I downloaded wasn't even compatible with my mac so I deleted it- even files in 'preferences', 'application support' etc etc. There should be absolutely no reason why my headphones won't connect- the light on the USB stick is on, suggesting that my headphones are connected to my computer, but they won't show up in the audio section of system preferences. I still have no clue what to do

Yup. If you connect your headsets wireless dongle to your PS4 using a USB extension cable you can then move the dongle a few inches away from your hard drive and you should be good. :)
Hi bud, do you think having a wireless keyboard plugged in is causing some sound drop out on my wireless headset, it's on the 2.4ghz band too. I've also got a surround system with 2 wireless rear speakers and I bet that's the dreaded 2.4ghz frequency too 😖

I have the exact same headset. Never had issues. But from one day to another, my Void Pro does not even connect anymore. All light are on and I didn´t change anything. Thought it could be the dongle, but nah, works completely fine on my Laptop. So whats the problem? My a new Windows 10 Update? Please help! :(

It actually fixed my problem too with my hyperx cloud flight for a while but I have researched about my motherboard and I don't have usb 3.0, only 3.1. So the 3.1 causes interference too?

You are my hero! I was having issues with my Sony Pulse headset on my PS5. Turns out I had the dongle plugged in next to my Western Digital expansion drive. Moving the dongle to the front port completely fixed it.
How do I do that with my ps4 both USB ports are right next to each other
Thanks maraksot78. This was very useful. The issue I am currently facing however is that my USB Bluetooth adapter is constantly flashing and it is very distracting. Is there a setting to turn off the flashing light or do I need to buy another one from a different brand?

Thank you for your help and mostly for the explanation of why cuz it's driving me nuts and I'm spending hundreds of dollars on different headsets and I'm still experiencing the same problems. My problem is on a PlayStation 4 with a external 4 TB hard drive using a PlayStation headset with USB dongle the PS4 only has USB 3.0 and the USB ports are only 4 inches apart approximately so if I used a wire extender to get the hard drive away from the headset dongle do you think that is something that would help in stopping the interference?

Yes I believe using a USB extension cable will work. I've had a number of people before you asked a similar question so I tested it a long time ago on my PlayStation 3. As far as I could tell, using the extension cable allowed me to position the dongle out of range of the interference being generated by my external hard drive and my wireless headset worked flawlessly. Give it a go. It should work.
That 4 year old video fixed my issue. I realized plugged in a cable next to the receiver, which on the other end had USB MFA token connected. I moved receiver away from it and problem disappeared. Thank you
