Cool Dale! It's a great plane, and solid flyer. Stalls are easy to predict, and flaps help slow it down nicely, PLUS enough speed to keep things interesting. Great mix of qualities for a beginner EFD jet!

Hi Brian, Thanks for addressing my question about the stand from the viper video. Sorry it dredged up a sore spot about putting a hole in the camera crews beloved sheet, lol. I love all the tips and hints you provide during the build and setup portions of the videos. Thanks for that.
Brian, really appreciate all the time you guys took to video the forward programming. I'm close to finishing a build of a FT kit (Tutor) where I added both ailerons and flaps and am seriously considering an AR630 for the build. I'm a big fan of "SAFE" type technology as it has saved me many crashes on my two Timbers and my AeroScout. At 77 years old I simply do not have the reflexes that I had as a younger man. I'm advancing in doing the simple aerobatics, more so than I would have otherwise, by having SAFE to bail me out when I lose orientation or just want a little break from the advanced modes. Keep up the good work... both you and the camera crew.
Speaking of balsa I just bought a Great Planes Avistar ARF! I had the rtf like over 15 years ago with the Futaba radio with crystals. Lol. Got an OS .46 nitro to go in it. Love the nostalgia of it. I remember going and hanging out in my friends basement as kids and staring at his dads balsa nitro planes for hours! Lol
There is indeed a very good tool - since coming across it I use it all the time , it is a combined metal (180Deg ) protractor combined with a steel rule - you set the rule to 90Deg on the protractor then put the flat side (Right angle made with the rule ) of the protector against the leading edge and measure back on the rule. it works 100% spot on.... only draw back I have found is that the type I have will only measure up to 150mm from 0. so if you have a bigger CG than 150mm from leading edge you would need to mark 150 and then measure from that point ... My make an interesting point regarding CG - I always install the RX first and then do the battery.... Love the Video, nice chat, Love the MARLIN ,
So glad you got into arrow hobbies Brian. I got this jet a couple of weeks ago brand new at a bargain price. I haven't flown for about 4 months so I got this to try sharpen myself up before I get into my 6s stuff. I'll enjoy watching ur set up on this and use it as a guide for myself. Looks like a great flying jet. Such a laugh seeing you fly the Red arrow without the front half of the plane!!
This was my first jet. I got it because it was well under $200 at the time and because it runs on a 4 cell. I did not own any 6 cell (expensive) batteries at the time. Perfect for beginner jet pilots, nice and slow for beginner compared to 70mm jets. One warning (from experience) do not land on the nose or she will start to bounce and likely roll over and break her nose off. It is pretty easy to bend the nose gear. So try and land on the mains. May your skies be blue and your winds calm.
I knew it, yep I guessed that is how you "disposed" of your old lipo batteries. Safer then stabbing them with an icepick. Hehe. For a jet the Marlin has a huge easy to get into battery compartment.
Same same as Tornado 75 jet less the flaps...added ESC w/reverse to shorten the faster speed hard surface landing roll...flies well as Brian's 😎👌🇺🇸🇸🇰🇩🇪👍
Well, I watched the whole video...start to finish. It was too windy to fly today. I bought my Marlin last week. It really is a great flying little plane. I think I prefer it to my Habu STS.
I need one of those rtf! Looks amazing! I would have to paint mine gold under and possibly red tip in the front to see where I am headed lol! You did an awesome job as always! Sweet bird 🦅!
Thanks for explaining the CG recently got into EDF jets after watching your videos and now have the t33 but had loads of problems that take off with it stalling immediately in the air and crashing. Hopefully now I understand the CG better. This won't happen. Cheers for the video. Keep up the good work
It will help a lot. If a plane is tail heavy, especially in a hand launch, you will be screwed...but when you get REALLY good, later on, tail heavyness can be used as a tool...I sure don't do it...but sail plane pilots will do it.
Brian, FYI You can put the AR630 sideways and forward programming sees it as orientation no. 9...when setting up the AS3X and safe For the first time....
I was hoping you would review this plane. I have one sitting on my desk and I just need to install the receiver. Could you elaborate on how the Marlin warns you before it stalls? You mentioned at the 3:50 mark. Thanks for the great video.
It falls to one side or the other, but it's not the most graceful, but it's also not hard to read...you KNOW it's coming, since the plane slowly tips over. You just increase throttle, lower the nose, or run the rudder one direction to get the nose going down or speed up, and you'll be set! Easy as that...the Viper jet, while a lot better flying plane, doesn't give ANY warning...it just FALLS...at least in a power on stall...power off, like on a final, the Viper will just be cruising along, and PLOP, especially on base leg, when you need to make that final turn for aligning for landing, she'll slip right out from under you and fall into a violent stall....NOT so with the Marlin.

I need help understanding the battery voltage issue you mention at the beginning, when you first go back insidie the house. The low voltage alarm is set to 3.3V and all the cells of the battery are indicating more than 3.3V remaining. Why would the low voltage alarm sound if hte battery voltage is set higher than the low voltage alarm? I'm really new at this so I'm sure that I am missing something that is very obvious. Really enjoy watching your videos!!!
The reason I think I should have heard the alarm, is that when you load the circuit, like giving throttle, and believe me...I was...the cells should have dropped down below 3.3VDC. I guess, it's not impossible they didn't, but I highly doubt it. These EDF's are very high loads on power systems, so when you have an alarm setup like I did, it's not uncommon to have it alarm on TAKEOFF ;) But then the voltage "recovers" when you get out of throttle. It's kinda strange and seems somewhat counter-intuitive, but when you've been at it a while, these dots will connect pretty quick. Good luck as you explore into this more!
@@BrianPhillipsRC that makes perfect sense and thank you for your reply. I am currently learning to pilot RC planes. I have learned alot from your videos. Actually your videos are the reason I am learning to fly RC planes at 50 years of age. Thanks again!!
At 1:53:54 you made a mistake on gain channel select. You chose the mode switch. You should have chose the R-Knob. You corrected it later in the video.
Great Video, have my arrows Marlin right to my side and the 4s 2200mah Akkus ar loaded and the plain is ready to take off. Brand new for 120 SFr is like 100 USD or so. Like the Modell verry mutch . Think I will Testing this Bird whit a stability system. Until know I never fly whit gyro stuff. Think 3 minutes of full power on a 4s 2200mah for first flight will be OK? Flaps can't go up so be careful whit the flaps by programming, otherwise the Depron will brake
Sure - 3 minutes would be fine on a 4S 2200, I believe. Just watch your throttle, and keep sharp on your situational awareness toward the end of your flight... don't want to get caught at low altitude and get trapped into a bad landing aporach.
Instead of using that - would a telemetry module measuring MAh as opposed to voltage on your TX would be better ? You could set the low mah threshold based on the capacity so if you want it to alarm at 25% remaining battery ( in the cold ) ..
@@BrianPhillipsRC - I believe you can get the telemetry to notify you on a certain mah threshold , then you know your pack is truly at X % and it’s time to land - regardless of weather or type of flying . Cheers
It's still cold, and I want to be kiting to practice, but way too windy and way too busy, even when it's not...unfortunately. Spring will offer much more opportunities, and I'll be taking advantage ;)
On my second Marlin and it is quite an awesome plane! I normally run it on a 2200 4S and it flies beautifully. The one time I put a 3000 4S battery in it it kept wanting to roll on me similar to maybe the problems you're having in the video and it barreled itself into the ground ( the reason I'm on Marlin #2 lol!) I would recommend sticking with the 2200 even though the flight times are shorter.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Soin to Maiden my Roc Hobby 70mm Viper that's been sitting in a box for over a year now that I've finally had EDF time. Going to try a Lemon rx w/Stabilizer; you've had good success with then so I'm going to try it. Thanks Brian
Hey Brian, I love my Marlin. Do you think you'll get to review either one of Freewing PJ50 or the XFly J65 that's those Lear Jets that came out via MontionRC and Bitgo Hobby. I wonder if they were created in the same factory, hmmm?
👍I need to get an edf, might have to be the yak tho.. also can't wait to see the new umx pitts when you get it!! Iv been on a feverish hunt for discontinued umx planes. Was thinking about getting a pitts but people were asking 200+ for the old one. Was happy to see they re released it
@BrianPhillipsRC bummer.. I'll keep an eye out for the video! Any idea when they will start shipping pre orders? I want to get one but at the same time I kinda want the fms 1400mm, imo it looks the most scale. The others have a very slight different look that doesn't quite match the real pitts. Can't put my finger on what looks different tho.
You mean, I should have pulled out the Vector, and used the Spektrum offering instead? If you want to see HOW to do this, we have a number of good videos for that. Just off the top of my head, I believe the FMS Viper 15th Anniversary is using almost the exact same setup, if you'd like to watch it right now - th-cam.com/video/lNbbYGE7PP8/w-d-xo.html
OK Iceman another fine flick. As always very interesting and fun to watch. I hear there is a new sit come and it is going to be like home improvements but with rc. You got the Tim Allen part frome that open nose flight you did last time.
I know this video is old now but I have recently got my hands on one of these as my first EDF. My throttle wire consists of the three wires in the connector then a separate yellow wire. Any ideas to where this goes please? At a loss with Google. 😮💨

How about reviewing the Banana Hobbies Wildcat it's a 2200mah 4s model it c/g really well and flies great. and if you decide to get one here is a tip. Don't use the China glue to attach the wings use one hour epoxy instead 😉
We don't work with Banana hobby at the moment. When you talk with them next, give us a plug and let them know you want to see us review their offerings ;)
Never got around to getting one of these. I ended up going with the Dynam Meteor v3 after I lost my 1st edf, Eflite F-15 Eagle (had a fly off). I actually love the Meteor, but I must say that Marlin looks sweet. It's also pretty quick for a 64mm. Great video! I do have a question though.. What were you going to say about the CG? You got distracted and ended up not finishing lol (I do it ALL the time as well) just curious. Thanks!
Hey Brian, you and Camera crew do an exceptional job of reviewing planes. I've since purchased the Marlin thank you very much! lol As I was on the Arrows site, I saw a gorgeous 64mm Mig 29 Mikoyan. Will you be reviewing this plane anytime soon? Love the channel you and camera crew keep up the good work.
That won't make it faster. This measurement, 2200mAh, speaks to the capacity of the battery, not the voltage. The Voltage will make the motor spin faster, and thus make the plane faster. The measure you're looking for is the cell count, in SERIES or "S" - 3S speaks to the number of cells at 4.2 volts dc per cell in series or 4.2 VDC X 3 cells in series = 12.6 VDC. Where a 4S would be 4.2 VDC X 4 cells in series = 16.8 VDC So if you wanted this plane faster than what we did, you would add a Cell or more. This might require a new ESC that's capable of handling more power through it. Hope this answers your question.
When weather turns more. We have some footage, but waiting to make something of it....like a "next step update" and equipment / off season getting ready sort of over view. I was kiting today!
@@BrianPhillipsRC awesome thanks for the up date. I am starting my training in mid may in Utah. I'm getting the skymax with the moster 185+ and the itv baja wing. Really looking forward to flying instead of dreaming about being in my rc planes
Should be fine. The bigger battery, the more you'll have to guarantee you get it balanced on the CG...or the plane will get so nose heavy the elevator will basically not work right - then CRASH - so watch out for that, but otherwise, go for it - if it fits, it ships!!!
If you remove the gear its a fantastic hand launch and belly lander, but if you leave the gear on its the best EDF for learning how to land on gear. I dont know if there's an easier to fly EDF than the Marlin.
Brian thanks for the time and effort in your vids and also thanks for when you can personally help me out when I ask questions. PS, Ah-ha so, I"m not the only one that wonders why you and other reviewer people keep peeling off the clear plastic protective coating off the electronics screens instead of waiting until it starts to wear, rather than keep it protected as long as possible. Great comment Camera Crew! LOL
It will burn the plastic if you wait too long. That mild adhesive will cause issues, I've seen it in the industrial world ;) But I'm always tempted to leave it on as long as possible.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Hmmm, I've never come across that situation, I've left the film on all my stuff as long as it is clear and not scuffed/scratched then when taken off have a clear screen again. Maybe in the industrial world there may be different way of holding it on, in the consumer world it feels more like a static (?) attraction rather than a glue type hold. I know when taking it off it will not want to reapply and stay put and falls off. But whatever, everybody will do it their own way. Hey Brian, I love my Marlin. Do you think you'll get to review either one of Freewing PJ50 or the XFly J65 that's those Lear Jets that came out via MontionRC and Bitgo Hobby. I wonder if they were created in the same factory, hmmm?
Yes, as soon as they get some it, we'll be doing the XFly one ;)
👍I need to get an edf, might have to be the yak tho.. also can't wait to see the new umx pitts when you get it!! Iv been on a feverish hunt for discontinued umx planes. Was thinking about getting a pitts but people were asking 200+ for the old one. Was happy to see they re released it
We will be doing it ASAP when it arrives....they were delayed :(
@BrianPhillipsRC bummer..
Great video. I only wish Brian would have also showed how to register and update a new AR630 receiver.
@@BrianPhillipsRC thank you for your response. My pnp of this model did not come with any stabilization assistance.
OK Iceman another fine flick. As always very interesting and fun to watch. I hear there is a new sit come and it is going to be like home improvements but with rc. You got the Tim Allen part frome that open nose flight you did last time.
LOL - Where's the wise Fence Neighbor???
@@BrianPhillipsRC I'm sorry I was gona build right next door but you bought up all the property's. 🤣
What would you pick if you could only choose one 4S EDF plane?
I would choose a 6S EDF Jet ;)
I know this video is old now but I have recently got my hands on one of these as my first EDF. My throttle wire consists of the three wires in the connector then a separate yellow wire. Any ideas to where this goes please? At a loss with Google. 😮💨
If I'm correct, I think it's actually a "reverse thrust signal only lead" - check out the FMS T-28 1.4m and see how we used it, if you wish ;)
Would you compare this to a Habu, or is it easy enough to fly to be a trainer
This one is a bit faster flying. Habu can go slow.
I wonder, can you use a 3S on this plane? or not enough power
I accidentally ran a 3s in it. It works fine, just not the power on tap you have with the 4s. It will be reasonable on 3s.
@@anthonyjayakody3356 alright thanks for the info. I have 3S batteries and was hoping to still be able to use those for this
@@brandonhill7016 try them out and once you’re comfortable, hit the 4s. Really stable aircraft.
Thanks Brandon for the quesiton. Sounds like Anthony already answered for me, Thanks Anthony...because I haven't tried it.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Video on what it's like on 3S yeah😏😏
kinda reminds me of a stinger 64mm. whats ur thoughts?
I agree, similar, but I never had that...and I kinda prefer the line on this one...almost like the love child of Stinger and Futura??? ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC bro my thoughts as well. something sweeter than a red head step child. No offence. Ill have to grip a few of these birds off your channel using your links . I need some good content . Thanks for the vids
Ehhh, Just Another Different Colored Foamy Lawn Dart... I Still Like The 70mm EDF VIPER The Best! 😁
Haha "lawn dart"
LOL - This plane actually flies pretty great, and for being 4S it's got some ups...no 6S edf here, but it's still pretty great, I think
is it called the Eagle killing zone because thats close to the tree you flew the F15 in to?
yes!
Nice EDF Brian
I agree! Good price, lots of features, and flies well too boot!
Hey Brian. Witch is faster and more monuvarable the arrows marlin or the xfly ta. Wich is better
TA is a better plane...but need more experience to fly her ;)
Ok thanks brian
Brian I added safe to my arrows bigfoot and i would like more control left right and down. Can I just turn up that roll rates? I would thing higher the number means it turns more?
That's in the SAFE Angle Limits. I've never done it before, but believe it's in the Forward Programming SAFE Section.
@@BrianPhillipsRC thanks
I thought you guys would never review this ,I have one, what I did on mine was paint it so I could see it.
Which one is faster the Marlin or the X fly T7 A?
Tough call, probably the T7 A. I think they're both good planes, but the T7 A is better looking.
Hi Brian, great video as always. Do you think you’ll get your hands on the arrows Mig 29? Ant
Soon, we hope ;)
Never got around to getting one of these. I ended up going with the Dynam Meteor v3 after I lost my 1st edf, Eflite F-15 Eagle (had a fly off). I actually love the Meteor, but I must say that Marlin looks sweet. It's also pretty quick for a 64mm. Great video!
I do have a question though.. What were you going to say about the CG? You got distracted and ended up not finishing lol (I do it ALL the time as well) just curious. Thanks!
Oh boy...WHAT was I going to say...can you time stamp it by chance to help me out???
Sorry about that Dean!
@@BrianPhillipsRC it's all good!! But at 4:30
Hey Brian, you and Camera crew do an exceptional job of reviewing planes. I've since purchased the Marlin thank you very much! lol As I was on the Arrows site, I saw a gorgeous 64mm Mig 29 Mikoyan. Will you be reviewing this plane anytime soon? Love the channel you and camera crew keep up the good work.
We want too, but not sure when. Supplies were low, so they've said no for now. Soon, we'd like to take it on ;)
Excuse me, will it be faster to use 2200mah?
That won't make it faster. This measurement, 2200mAh, speaks to the capacity of the battery, not the voltage. The Voltage will make the motor spin faster, and thus make the plane faster. The measure you're looking for is the cell count, in SERIES or "S" - 3S speaks to the number of cells at 4.2 volts dc per cell in series or 4.2 VDC X 3 cells in series = 12.6 VDC. Where a 4S would be 4.2 VDC X 4 cells in series = 16.8 VDC
So if you wanted this plane faster than what we did, you would add a Cell or more. This might require a new ESC that's capable of handling more power through it.
Hope this answers your question.
@@BrianPhillipsRC But isn't the lighter the faster?
@@BrianPhillipsRC thanks for your reply
HAHAHAAHAHA Butter for the stand!
LOL ;) I should!!!!
Been following you for a little while and I'm really interested in your ppg flying. When will we see that
When weather turns more.
Could this be ran on a 3700 4s?
Should be fine. The bigger battery, the more you'll have to guarantee you get it balanced on the CG...or the plane will get so nose heavy the elevator will basically not work right - then CRASH - so watch out for that, but otherwise, go for it - if it fits, it ships!!!
A good price
It really is! Even after an Rx, it's an economical choice in a really expensive marketplace ;)
If you remove the gear its a fantastic hand launch and belly lander, but if you leave the gear on its the best EDF for learning how to land on gear. I dont know if there's an easier to fly EDF than the Marlin.
Snow Valley Trailer Park Kook!
You Suk Mate!
An U know Y Suk Hed!
That's a great call! I kinda forget that I can just pull the landing gear off...but your 100% right!
Why They Don’t Just Put The CG In The Mold🤔
I think since they don't actually know it for sure until it's done and they do some R&D...but I've often thought the same thing too.
we want to know all about Megan's chandelier over the dinette table
Can you time stamp this, so we can listen to the context, and give an actual answer ;)
Flying the arrows Sabre soon?
Coming now ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC mines due in Thursday, just curious if choosing the Sabre over the Marlin was best...?
@@redwineisfine I have all 3, Arrows Jets, Viper, Marlin and the Sabre, and gained experience on EDF'S in that order
Brian thanks for the time and effort in your vids and also thanks for when you can personally help me out when I ask questions. I can't buy from your link as I live in UK but I'm sending you some beer money via PayPal mate. If you were my neighbour I'd be certainly returning the favour with a 6pack. 🍻
Thanks ;) We appreciate you doing this. We love getting surprised like this! Thanks for begin here with us too markmcc21!
This reminds me of the hubu
It is cheaper, and simpler. Very good pick, but the Habu is very good flying, and even easier to land.
pylot pro
Thanks ;)
Leaf 🍀 blower lmao ; )
:)
Don't mix the flaps whit the ailerons! , beacoase the flaps on this bird can't go Up. High Rates and low Rates :
Elevator Aileron Rudder 12mm up / down 10mm up / down 14mm up / down 10mm left / right Clevis installation 12mm up / down 8mm left / right
I didn't mix ailerons with flaps ;) Did you mean Flaps with Elevator? I know you're English suffers from time to time, and wonder if your message was somewhat lost in translation?
Thanks for the comment, and sorry I might have missed your point Philippe
@@BrianPhillipsRC Your right, my English is not that Good. I know you don't mix flaps whit ailerons, but I want people warned if they try aileron up on the Marlin, beacoase the flaps ar not good for up. A compliment for your Film crue, she's make a fantastic job. All the best from Swiss
And yes, I on occasion I will be screaming at the screen, but still watch your vids. LOL
Keep flying/teaching!
Charlie
need a short of your crashes cuz i dont see any planes in those trees, which is damn near impossible.
Yes first to comment
Congrats!!!
Alcohol will take off a fresh marker mistake.
Sure will! Kicker also does it too, if you have it sitting right there ;)
I like a Arrows.RC..................................hard to see "de plane " "de plane" ..
They have been great!
