The Orca - Elegance Unleashed [Elite Dangerous Ship Review]

The Orca - Saud Kruger's oldest available design of luxury space-liner in Elite Dangerous. It's their medium take on this sort of ship (although still needs a large landing pad), fitting between the tiny Dolphin and the massive Beluga liners.
Question is, does it feel like a luxury ship? Can it munch through endless lightyears and provide passengers with a good experience and can it defend itself from the enterprising pirate? More to the point, is there anything this ship is good at, aside from looking pretty?

Prob my fav ship in the game, and hands down the one I've spent longest in. It's an absolute pig to land on broken ground and forget about really rough ground. But it's taken me right around the galaxy :)

I'm glad it's not just me that had trouble landing it on a few planets. I still don't get how it's supposedly is on par with the Anaconda for handling on paper - both supercruise and "regular" flight say otherwise to me.

It must be something to do with the length. I even have trouble landing the dolphin in good spots at guardian sites. Even though the AspX is bigger it’s easier to fit in tighter spaces than the Dolphin. The Orca is the best looking ship in the game, but whatever you want to use it for, there is always something quite a bit better. I do like an underdog of a ship that I can make as good as it possibly can be made, but it just isn’t good enough at any one thing to be redeemed

I picked up an Orca a while back. G5 Dirty Drag thrusters, pre-engineered FSD with mass manager, and a C2 FSD booster, and the "Migrant's Respite" has become my favorite ship to use for rescues, especially at burning stations/surface ports. Being able to boost to 640 m/s means I don't have to worry about Scythes or even Basilisks catching me on the way out.
My only gripe is the fact that I can carry more passengers in a medium ship like the Python.

Did a Beagle Point Tour in the orca once, crashed on the way back. Sooo not all good memories, but still a Saud Kruger Fan here

Oooof, so a whole load of exploration data lost? That's always a bummer. Still need to head out to Beagle Point at some point, but that's probably going to be a job for the Phantom

Prettiest ship in the game, in my opinion - though I wish it were listed as a medium size.
'I guess we'll just have to hope that a Saud Kruger medium one gets introduced in the future!

Thanks to a creative pilot, the Orca is known for it's class V hardpoint. Space rugby is an acquired taste, but it can be a satisfying break from regular combat.

The thrusters are oversized for the ship. Similar to the dolphin, you can A rate and fully engineer them to G5 dirty/drag drives, and have enough space left over to build out a "max cruise/boost speed at all times" ship. This includes combat builds. Top end speed is 642m/s boost. Keep the weight under 630T, not hard, and you'll be sending it like crazy.

I came to this ship late. I built one for AX Recue Pax Missions and it handles surprisingly well. I quite enjoyed it.
