It might be a bit of a rough ride to get the credits to afford this ship initially, but just know that once you do, you will never be short a credit again.

It only took me one day of hauling in a Type-6 to get enough credits to buy the Type-9 hull, then another day to fully outfit it. Just have to find a good initial trade route for the Type-6. But yes, once you've got the Type-9 you've basically got a money printing machine.

the mighty Type 9 is how i got my fleet carrier. it is still one of my favorite ships! it hauls a bit more than the cutter, although i got to say i usually use the cutter because it jumps farther and you just boost and outrun pirates, its also a bit faster getting in and out of stations (except the autodock is still wonky). i still keep going back to the Type 9 because its more challenging. i keep re-engineering it to be able to stand up to the pirates. i suck at fighting so i use gimballed weapons. or turreted. the Type 9 is a beautiful ship. for mining i prefer the Type 9 over the Type 10 and cutter, it can deploy more limpets

I outfitted mine for combat, mostly as a joke, partly because I couldn't afford a Type 10, and partly because I also outfitted my Keelback for almost the same role and was curious how the Type 9 would do. It hits pretty hard if I can bring my (gimballed) guns forward, which is a big challenge but not impossible, especially with a fighter. More surprising than that though, is that it can actually take quite the punishment. My shields going down isn't common, and it's genuinely rare that the ship is destroyed. This is alongside a not impressive but nonetheless serviceable cargo space if I really want to do trading in the Type 9 - how unthinkable!
    It's a really fun ship.

I have made most of the money for a Fleet carrier using this ship. Big slow ugly and a easy gold mine!

Very fair, very accurate assessment. The Type-9 is my go to heavy freighter, despite having an Imperial rank of King (gathered entirely through humanitarian rescue missions).
It's nearly perfect for its intended role, but it does have one shortcoming that you hinted at but didn't explicitly mention: It's pirate bait. It can't break an interdiction to save its life, can't run, and is poor at defending itself in a fight. I've won fights against pirates with it, but that's a scenario I wouldn't wish on anyone. I tried loading up with mine launchers, but that was completely ineffective. Ultimately I realized that big, slow, and unmaneuverable is the reason why turreted weapons exist. Slap on point defense to knock down hatchbreaker limpets and heavy armor and it's... passable in a bad neighborhood.

I did like this one! You found my weakness the best ship in the game, and thank you I think the cutter is bloody ugly too, the nine looks much better than the cutter!

I tend to agree. The Cutter is just... thick in a weird way.

Among the top 5 all-rounders in the game:
1)Orca (armor, shields, jump 50 years, 642m/s, scanner, cargo and weapons at the same time)
    2) t7 (differs only in speed and shields)
    3) phantom (you need to choose what will be inferior to number 1)
    4)anaconda (slow and large)
5)t9 (excellent internal slots, multi-controller, convenient form, but low speed, some of the best visual improvements in the store).

Want Prismatics? Or any other Powerplay unlockable? One month and one easy haul of propaganda material in a fully laden Type 9 later and it is yours. Sorted

I am currently into Titan bashing in my Krait, but i like the Type 9.
It's fun to fly, you have to be careful not to crach into a sun or headbut into or out of a station.

The Type 9 flies like a tin shed and is just as maneuverable so I switched to a Cutter for cargo transport (one of three I own). It carries 702 tons of cargo, has 6A engineered shields, size 3 Guardian FSD booster and some internal and external shield boosters so it has a shield strength of 3000. Add to that enough firepower to easily take out an NPC Elite Anaconda while losing less than 20% of my shields while an engineered T9 can barely fight off a high ranked Sidewinder pirate.

I think I love my Type9 because everyone hates it. That, and the ludicrous amount of money it has made me.

I'm wondering... if you optimise for long-range hauling, then Anaconda can be a better option because of its great jumps/cargo ratio, ergo better money/hour.

Like most every ship, there are those who swear by it and those who swear at it. The T9 is well enough for what it's made to be. But as many have stated, it's pirate bait. It's possible to break an interdiction in a T9. But it's not easy. The T9's one saving grace being that it can soak up an astounding amount of munitions and keep flying. Yes, the Cutter is 3 times the price. But the Cutter is 4 times better in most every way.

I don't get how you would fly anything but a Cutter for serious trading.... Cool video though!

I, a member of the Imperial Navy, take offense at your misguided, misinformed and obviously jealous remark about the finest ship in the galaxy, The Magnificent Imperial Cutter, sir. One day Duval gonna Cut you down. :) o7 cmdr

type 10 is slow as a snail... all but useless if you are being hunted down constantly...but better than the type 9 I guess, and until you geared up to at least tier 4 engineering mods... it's a sitting duck, I was a little surprised at how lacking it is in terms of firepower since it was sold as the combat upgrade to thargoids....lol
Meanwhile a vanilla Cutter leaves it for dead as a trader, just lacks good weapon layout and turn rate for combat uses.... but the speed makes up for it, especially once engineered.

Slow, cumbersome, ugly, a major tetanus risk & you wouldn't accept a lift in one...
I love it, & everybody should have one in a hanger somewhere!
