- In this video you will get to see a huge hangar that was used as the Public Works Department in Roosevelt Roads. Services like vehicle repair, crane services, rigging among other services were coordinated and dispatched from this building. The second floor of the building housed many engineering departments that included environmental health and safety. Contracting for new constructions were coordinated and approved as well.
In 1969 after a year tour in Vietnam I was sent to PWD Roosy Rds. Was a CM in the light automotive shop. We were first in the back of the building down the left side if you are facing the rear. The heavy shop was across the building on the opposite side, then the powers that be thought it would be a good idea to put all the maintenance on the same side of the building. So we got moved to the opposite corner in the front. All the equipment and dispatch was now on the same side. Made sense I guess. My oldest daughter was born in the old hospital back at Bundy. Wasn’t a bad assignment looking back. We had a lot of civilian mechanics doing all the hard jobs. Shame the base was let go to the shambles it is now.
Thank you for watching and shareing.
I lived there during Hurricane Hugo!
Great place to be at that time.
Beautiful building. I think it makes our AIMD aircraft hanger look small.
Yes PWD is a huge building. Thanks for watching.
I just work there 😢
Yes, I did to. Thank you for watching.
With everything going on in South America, China, Israel, Gaza, Russia and many other places you would think the Navy would re open the base.
I would love to see that happen one day!!
I really love your videos, but they make me sad and then angry. Such a waste.
Sorry for the sad and angry part but hope you still get some good memories of the places. Thanks for watching.
