    I’ve been using M43 professionaly, for many years, also coming from Canon 5D, first adopting GH4 (great battery life), then GH5 and now EM1 mk2 for it’s focus and stabilization. Just bought 2 new bodies with 12-100mm lenses, nice prices.
    Today, I save a lot of money traveling light, less people needed and reaching places with all my gear that wouldn’t be possible with full frame equipment.

    I'll say this for you Jimmy, as a presenter on TH-cam you come across very well. Someone I can believe in. I moved from Canon FF, so I now have a camera system that I can carry around, just in case I see something to photograph. My back is also happy. Most of my lenses are Pro's, primarily for the weather sealing. Fast apertures are a bonus and I'm not a Pro.

    Great "End of Term" review of the E-M1 Mkii. I have been using my E-M1 Mkii since it first came out. I had pre-ordered it. My original E-M1 was wearing out after three years and one shutter replacement. The E-M1 Mkii still seems like a new camera to me and I have over 200,000 photos from it. The quality built of the E-M1 Mkii is much better than the original E-M1. I now also have an E-M1X and I really love it and the quality built is even better than the E-M1 Mkii. My Pen F is my fun family and social camera. I do love how I can take everything with me and the bag is still carriable. Anyhow, if the rumors are correct and there is a new E-M1 Mkiii announcement in February what would I like to see and what would it take for me to get on the pre-order list for it. For one thing the better ergonomics from the E-M1X. I love the extra magnification of the E-M1X, so a better EVF would be nice to have. I love the ability to assign a custom mode to a function button. For me this feature is very handy for bird photography where I am taking a stationary bird photo using S-AF and the extra small AF box and with just a push of function button I can be in my BIF custom mode. Sensor improvements plus more and better processing power would be nice to have. Built-in GPS like the E-MX would be nice. Hand-Held Hi Res and Live ND like in the E-M1X would be nice. Having the same dual card slots like the E-M1X would be nice. Improved Face Detection where there is priority is giving to the AF Box. Subject tracking with more than just trains, planes and autos. Astro tracking like Pentax does by moving the sensor. An AF joystick would be great. Anyhow, it is a quick top of my head list of things that would be nice. I sure Olympus will up the specs and features enough for me to be on the pre-order list when the times come. Enjoyed the video.

    Back in 2016 I had been shooting with the E-M5 mkII for a year and pre-ordered the Em1- mkII as soon as it was announced. It has been the go-to workhorse camera for my professional photography since the day I received it and its still going strong. The Olympus IBIS is industry leading. Plan to continue to use it as a back-up if the rumors are true and Olympus announces the E-M1 mkIII next month. I like having the option of a removable battery grip to make the camera smaller or larger and for vertical shooting (mainly headshots). Depending on what is announced next month I'll be getting the mkIIII or pulling the trigger on an E-M1X and continue to use the MkII when I want to travel lighter. Great video review Jimmy!

      Don't forget the E-M1 X has the same sensor as our E-M1 mark II so your photos won't actually look any different. I love the idea of the X but that was the thing that woke me up and made me realise I don't actually need one 😃

    I switched from Fujifilm as my secondary system to the EM1 Mk.ii a few months ago and I love it. It is the most comfortable camera ergonomically I have used. For outdoor and travel in particular it is my camera of choice.
    It supplements my Full Frame system perfectly. For it’s size the EM1 Mk.ii is beast of a camera with some phenomenal lenses and fantastic colour. I really enjoy using the Olympus EM1 Mk.ii.

    • @MiaogisTeas
      @MiaogisTeas 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What do you find yourself using when traveling? Personally I tend to take lenses that sit at the ends of the spectrum, a 7-14mm and a 40-150mm. Maybe it's because at home I'm usually using primes 🤔

    • @christophergrundy5307
      @christophergrundy5307 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      William Miles La Mont I use both primes and zooms at home - primes slightly more. For travel I’m virtually 50/50.
      The Olympus 12-40mm f2.8 and 60mm f2.8 macro are always in my bag. Both are very versatile lenses and surprisingly light - especially in comparison to their full frame equivalents.
      The 40-150mm f2.8 is often in my bag but only if I know I will definitely use it. It is one of the best telephoto lenses I have used and focal range to size ratio is superb. I don’t do as much telephoto shooting at present but it’s a lens that when I need it, nothing else will do.
      For minimal weight or casual use without a bag, the 17mm & 45mm f1.8 lenses are my choices as they are (jacket/coat) pocketable. They usually stay in my bag regardless though as they take up virtually no space in the bag and are very light.
      The 12-40 is my widest lens at present. I would like to add something wider at some point later in the year though.

    Hi Jimmy, I recently (May 2021) bought used E-M1 Mk. II with only 10,000 shutter count. With is for this camera considered a low count. I just love this camera! I also got the HLD-9 battery grip for both extra battery power and to balance/ counter weight to the Olympus M.Zuiko 100-400mm. It is just a great camera/lens combo. Especially for aviation photography. I'm just an enthusiast but what a great camera. As my back up I have an E-M10 Mk. II and I just have to say it was a major upgrade coming from the E-M10 Mk. II and before that the E-420 (still have that one also and it is currently enjoying retirement)

    I use MFT systems for my professional and personal work. I came from Canon as well after many years. I still have some of my Canon gear for certain kinds of work. I bought an Olympus PEN Lite E-PL5 to test the waters back in 2012... I wanted something very small, yet capable interchangeable lens system for shooting street. I liked it. Cute camera. And it was very capable.Then bought a E-M5. Liked that very much. The stabilization was a game changer. Then later I purchased a couple of E-M5 mark ii body's with grip. I use them on weddings, special events and documentary work. I also use Panasonic GH4, GX85, GH5 for video. I have been on the fence about getting the Panasonic G9 (it's closest competitor) for some time, now that the prices have come down so much... but I lean to the E-M1 Mark II for many reasons, especially with the latest firmware. Plus something just a little more appealing about Olympus. Physical handling. Colour science. The files are super. Thinking I am going to hold off to see what the updates look like in the E-M1 Mark III. Should be interesting. If they can take the best of the Panasonic G9 capabilities and upgrade the sensor and phase detection I'm all in. Both systems have stellar in-body stabilization, double card slots, rugged all-weather body's, great batteries... all the things you want in a pro body. The G9 is about $300 cheaper than the Oly E-M1 Mark II in Canada. Be interesting to see the pricing of the Mark III when it comes out. Maybe it will bring down the Olympus E-M1 Mark II to a more realistic price point.

    End of term yes but still a fantastic camera in 2020! I bought mine just a couple weeks ago on promo special from Olympus under $900 USD brand new. It arrived with firmware 3.0 already installed and I believe 3.2 is now out. Compared to my original EM-5, the EM-1 mkII is a huge step up especially noticeable on auto-focus and even though it's larger than my EM-5 it's better balanced and the grip makes it a joy to handle. I guess I'm one full generation behind but I'm not a pro and I couldn't pass up the price on my brand new EM-1 mkII. Fantastic camera.

    I have two Olympus EM1 Mkii's they are fantastic cameras, I also have 5 of the pro lenses including the 300mm F4 and 7-14mm zoom and all the mm's between, they are all pin sharp. I agree with you regarding the colour science, fantastic skin tones and beautiful colours and the fact that the cameras are very rugged. The size and form factor is also brilliant, as an example, I do safari's and I can take two camera bodies (each with battery grips), 5 lenses, two flashes, two video lights, 8 batteries and a full-size tripod (Velbon which fits in my bag) and a mini pod, all in one bag that fits in Airplane Carry-On size, amazing !!
    There are no other cameras on the market that has so many features and modes, I just wish they did make a full-frame version, then it would be perfect, most likely the market leader !
    I have to admit I do have a Sony A7R2 just so I can cover the things that the Olympus' cannot (high ISO, large megapixel and super dynamic range), but only have two lenses for this camera, with these three cameras I can cover any and all situation possible.

    One of the most remarkable aspects of this camera was the recent firmware upgrade. It achieves what Panasonic - even in their full frame S series - has been unable to do, which is reliable auto focus for video. So much so that the EM1 MII actually sells for more then the GH5 now used - a shocking development really. I'm hoping the MIII is a full step ahead and not a baby step.... either way, great video.

    Interesting to hear about your peeling grip. Mine too and I’m not a pro. I use the camera about weekly and would never use it in the rain. I think this is an endemic problem with this model. I communicated my concerns to the Olympus service centre and, although out of warranty by about a year, they agreed to repair it free of charge. This is more than a cosmetic issue because it affects the weather sealing. I hope they rectify this issue in the M3.

    • @MiaogisTeas
      @MiaogisTeas 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep pretty well known at this point. I believe it's due to the material they used being applied in a controlled, cleanroom environment - once it gets out into the wild, it quickly gets affected by changes in humidity and heat.

    Jimmy, I agree, it is one of the best cameras I've ever used. However, one thing one cannot get used to is the erratic behaviour of the Auto WB: it is incredibly off sometimes and almost always too warm (yes, even with the Keep Warm WB set to off). I just can't believe there is no fix for this while all the rest of the lineup handles Auto WB beautifully. Now this is what prevents the otherwise beautiful colors shine... Everything else is just spot on ;)

I use it with the grip and it balances perfectly with the pro series lenses (find it a bit front heavy without the grip)... as someone who grew up with film I have (so far) come across only two digital cameras that I enjoy using... this one and the Pentax 645d... something about the handling... my em1ii is still going strong so I probably won't update until the release an update for the em1x... which is obviously a very long way away... at the moment I can't imagine needing more than the em1ii can offer... but we shall see... sorry that was a long comment... if you got to the end, thanks for reading...

    Greetings from the USA! Like your videos on Olympus. I have migrated to the smaller format because of weight when traveling abroad. Would like to see some reviews of lenses not made by Olympus but 3rd party (Sigma, Tamron, etc.) for Olympus. You have done a little of that, and I realize that there are not that many compared with Canon & Nikon. Maybe look at some Panasonic lenses and how it works with Olympus M43 body?
    Nonetheless, I enjoy your videos for showing me the possibilities of what can be done with Olympus cameras and lenses. There's not as much out there compared with Canon & Nikon.

    Just got my em1 mk2 recently(used with less than 350 shuttercount),so mine should out live me as an enthuasiast. Would love to have the nd filter effects from the em1 x but understandable know its not possible. So far i am still discovering it and delf in the menus. Luckly i have the em10 mk2 for about 2years,so i am use to olympus menus although the em1 mk2 has much more shooting options and other settings. Love this camera.

    What I want from Olympus: 1) HDR at ISO greater than 200, i.e. using ISO which the user sets, not 200. Sometimes HDR in low light conditions yields dark and as a result noisy images as if taken at higher ISO. I would like enhancement of this feature. 2) I need face priority setting - focus only on faces, if face is not detected - block shatter as if no focus. 3) Auto-ISO setting - "exposure to the right". Now in Auto-ISO mode both ISO and diafragm (in S mode) selected when histogram in the middle of the range, I need to have feature that camera sets parameters in condition histogram moved to the right. 4) in C-AF need AF correction if the subject is moving along lense axis on and off camera to better focus on the subject, especially when the subject approaching - in this case AF error is most likely to occur. 5) In series shooting with electronic shutter the camera actually can predict end extrapolate hands jitter and use predicted together with electronic measurements, and using special mathematical formality (namely Kalman filtering) one can merge predicted and measured data. This will allow to significantly decrease the percentage of AF errors in series shooting.

    Been using a mixture of Olympus lenses and bodies from Panasonic and Olympus since 2006. Have always preferred Olympus lenses but right now I'm liking the Panasonic G9. Olympus just needs to step up the viewfinders like the G9 has for these eyes of mine.

    As usually, I agree with all you say. For me, there is nothing not to love in the EM-1 mark II: altough there is not such a thing like a perfect camera, this is the perfect camera to me, even now in december 2023. Further models have improvements, of course, but I really don't feel I need them, and I am a gear addicted. Besides, I don't really see the point of buying a camera that, in digital terms, is built to last forever if I feel the urge to switch to the last version every three or four years.

    Btw, you mentioned that it's maybe not the right one for low light. I have only seen olympus being able to handheld the milky-way shot. And the iso 200 night street shooting, was also olympus 😉 so the low light can't be that bad 🤔

    Thanks for the amazing insight! I recently purchased this camera last November and so far it's been brilliant. I've got a question about what you said regarding the Olympus colour science. Are you talking about the built in image processing that creates a nicely coloured jpg? If that's the case, then is it still relevant when shooting raw because you will then tend to work with the colours yourself

    • @Red35Photography
      @Red35Photography  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All manufacturers use a different colour set up. It’s different to colour profiles. This is the base colours that the camera uses to produce RAW and jpg.

    Sounds strange maybe but I bought my EM1.2 a month ago because I know the EM1.3 is sure to come soon. I desperately needed a camera to replace my Pen F because it can’t focus shooting wildlife. Something I am now shooting. So I bought the EM1.2 now and I already started to build my wildlife/landscape kit starting with the 12-40 2.8 and in a couple weeks the 300mm f4. If Olympus gives us a good updated EM1.3 then I will add that to my Kit next year. Lenses first.

    What are the recommended 2-3 lenses setup for the Olympus E-M1 II?
    I would get the Leica 100-400mm 4.0-6.3 lens. I never shot videos. The idea is that one can’t have a 200-800mm hand holdable setup on full frame.
    I also have Canon, Nikon DSLR’s systems with several Canon, Nikon and Zeiss lenses for EF and F. I’m also buying a Sony full frame camera for which I’m planning getting 3-4 lenses.

    This comment comes almost two years late.
    II'm not a professional photographer, but I've been taking photos since I was seven (around 60 years). In analog times there was actually only the (for me much too expensive) NIKONOS that was really waterproof. I broke an Olympus OM1n (flooded, 200 Deutsche Mark repair) and a Canon IXUS 300 (dusty, not repairable).
    Stability has always been something that was important to me, more than megapixels, ISO or whatever. My camera has to go with me when, where and how I want. Otherwise none of this makes any sense to me.
    Lumix DMC-FT1 (always in my backpack), Lumix DMC-FZ300 (if I don't have a plan at all), Olympus OM-D E-M1 (if I have a plan) and a Nikon D500 (for super wide-angle and action). I took my best pictures in real bloody awful weather. I don't need an indoor camera. A professional photographer can probably plan that he has an umbrella or tent with the accompanying assistants, I can't.
    That's why I will no longer buy cameras or lenses that are not dust and weatherproof.

    Got the camera myself... and really like it! But my big problem is the noise... have so much lookalike noise on the photos, even at base ISO, is there some setting for fixing it?

    • @Red35Photography
      @Red35Photography  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t see noise but if you are not used to Olympus sensor, you may mistaken the ‘organic’ pixels. You need to lower the sharpening radius because the pixels are a lot smaller than APSC and FULL FRAME camera.

    Let's hope they put the new Sony 47 megapixel MFT sensor in the iii. Personally I'd like Olympus to upgrade the EVF and touchscreen to a higher resolution. Apart from that an improved menu system and more autofocus points would be nice. It goes without saying the body should be metal

    thank you for the effort and the sharing. your vids are always informative. some video-centric questions for Tracy: does the OM-D EM1mk2 have access to zebras? are the audio meters visible during recording? is there a way to expand the image to check focus during recording? thanks in advance. thumbs up.

    • @Red35Photography
      @Red35Photography  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your comment. Currently no OM-D cameras offer Zebras unfortunately, they do give you histogram that highlights clippings if that helps. Audio meter is visible and can be turned on and off. You can't expand image to check focus during recording but peaking assist is on. Hope this helps :)

      Hi John, don't worry about it. In fact, I think it's going to be even better in the future. Look Olympus had been upfront and did what they need to do to make sure the camera department survives through the tough downturn of photography industry in general, All but perhaps Canon is in a slightly better position, Sony, Fuji, Panasonic all suffering big time in the last couple of years, Panasonic is also considering selling (from rumour sites), at least Olympus didn't stop, they simply found someone who has the expertise and market focus to help, yes, they no longer be running the show but will still be involved in the development. In fact, most of the senior management, technicians and engineers are moving to the new company. Time will tell but as far as I know, it's going according to plan.
