I really like that the sekiro modding community is that they can make the battle more intense by rebuilting the whole pattern instead of health or damage tweaking
Based on my experience, the Genichiro at the castle is nowhere near as tanky as shown here. Unless this is some high NG+ upwards stuff. Still looks amazing though, as long as I'm not the one fighting 😅

Genichiro is more tragic as a character when you realize His strength actually lay on his archery ( which is better than the _Okami_ themselves, and praised by nearly everyone you eavesdrop enroute to Ashina Castle) not swordsmanship like his grandfather. Wishing for a mod that gives Genichiro more moves with his bow and not his blade
Genichiro is prepared to do anything for Ashina and yet he doesn't wield a gun but a freaking bow. Isshin is not gonna stoop so low as to use the Divine Child to win a war but he won't hesitate shooting you in the face with a glock. The Ashinas really has this odd way of showing honor in battle.
@@silenthero2795 Genichiro overwhelms his opponents with arrows, which is not possible with a gun unless you have Isshin's special, then again a single bullet from that gun does less damage than a single arrow from one of Geni's arrow volley , even on NG+5. And the Ashina didn't have special gunpowder or fulminated mercury to produce/replicate the superior weaponry the Interior Ministry uses.

The Ashina has the Sunken Valley Clan to produce their artillery and quite frankly, Genichiro is the ONLY Ashina soldier you meet who still wields a long bow in an era where advanced armaments decides a war. For a guy who would do everything for his land, he still sticks to the old ways of fighting - even using outdated calvary tactics with Gyoubu which is useless against guns or artillery. Just because Isshin lost to Tomoe, Genichiro instead tried to imitate Tomoe when it is Isshin who the Interior Ministry fears the most.

If it was any other life or death scenario I think Isshin would have won. You are right however, I think that Genichiro didn't have much choice . Sunken Valley is reluctant to aid Ashina for the fear of being obliterated by the Interior Ministery and are holed up in their gun fort. And Ashina was being Hammered on all fronts they didn't have a moment of respite to get artillery they needed Genichiro is better off using a bow he mastered ( he still slaughtered Interior Ministry armies with that bow) rather than use a gun for mediocre performance. Besides, the Red Guard artillery is overpowered more than the sunken valley's purely because of availability of Fulminated mercury, which Genichiro and Sunken Valley had no chance to procure until they invade for the final time to nail the coffin.

His own motto is "Hesitation is defeat" and I don't think he would get distracted by mere appearances during the heat of battle when it nearly cost him his life. If any, this is the point where Genichiro started training with Tomoe instead of Isshin thinking her style was better than the Sword Saint himself. The Okami style is quite traditional though, using dance-like movements, unlike the Ashina style that emphasizes brute strength and a "win at all cost" mentality. I think that is why the Okami art is considered "heretical" because it is the antithesis of the Ashina style. Ashina was destined to fall anyway just by sheer numbers. It would have somehow survived if Genichiro can be somewhat diplomatic instead of antagonizing everyone around him. If everyone is starting to use guns, I think Genichiro would have some sense to adopt it but because he is traditional at heart, he tried to stick to what he grew up with.
I like to imagine all these characters getting a lot stronger, grew a lot of confidence and charge at Ongbal, thinking it's their time to shine. Just for Ongbal to fuck them up with a smiling Sekiro face in his profile pic, AGAIN.
You really, REALLY outdid yourself with this one. As a personal preference I love the more grounded, sword-focused fights with a minimum of the flashier prosthetics and the first phases were absolutely perfect for that- it was a thing of beauty. Thank you for continuing to put out such amazing content of this great game!
This ^ I'm also of the same mindset, its why, even though Genichiro becomes a pushover later on, it's my favorite boss fight, he focuses a lot more on sword combos mixed with some bow attacks; that being said, both ongbal and the modder seems like they came together to create a work of art with this fight
0:20 I spent a lot of time in this game trying no level up stuff, and I extensively used sabimaru for that but I never realized that the startup for the 2nd set of sabimaru attacks (the one where after the big slash he starts with a stab from both blades) is faster than the enemy's counterattack after they deflect! I know that generally getting your normal attacks deflected gives u the deflect penalty where for a few frames and u cant start any actions after an enemy deflects u, but there are also some attacks that dont give u that penalty such as the whirlwind slash's final slash, or shadowfall's final slash. But all such attacks also have their own finishing animation which doesnt alow u to instantly start an attack either, so I thought they designed it like this so you cannot pressure an opponent by attacking them first after they deflect you... but now I see that this is one exception., a speciality to sabimaru.., truly magnificient game design and ongbal a master of the one armed wolf..,
in my opinion, this is the best game from soft ever made. The combat mechanics are insanely satisfying, the story was strong and I am still sour about the fact there was not a single bit of DLC added.
Amazing use of loaded spear to close distance after his charged bow attack. I always learn something new and am inspired to be better watching these videos

And in phase 3 he shoots multiple of them that explode giving a rebuff like no healing or less movement etc. So far I havent seen modders add debuffs like poison fire etc that is already in fights. Like no need to add fire for the demon of hatred but something like fire for geni would work. Fire arrows lightning poison etc. Or literal lightning arrows that cant be blocked or you get shock debuff.

The Ascending and Descending Carp Skills read "The Ashina Style is deeply rooted in the flow of the Fountainhead waters. They believe the act of successfully deflecting a blade is akin to a carp ascending a waterfall." And was that second phase such a showcase of the grace of a carp in waterfalls. Genichiro readying his blade before swiftly turning around and striking, again, and again, and again, without any hesitation. It's beautiful. Well done Ongbal :) (Also, when he uses both lightning and the Mortal Blade effects in the second phase, is there any way to completely avoid damage without having to dash forward ? Mist Raven maybe ? I guess Sakura Dance doesn't work because part of the attack consists of Divine damage, so you'll probably reverse the lightning but still take chip damage from the Mortal Blade effect).

Some of the coolest stuff is the lightning attack into lightning reversal into counter lightning reversal into counter COUNTER lightning reversal. That shit is just so damn cool!
I like how you can learn speedrunners or people like ongbal of what techniques, combos and how you can learn alot from them without a word just watching can give you ideas and even if your not doing speedruns in game, you can learn a great amount from them. Also i like how ongbal is fighting in perfect rhythm
REALLY GOOD MOD! And REALLY GOOD PLAYER to test it out. That push back then an arrow shot was so cool. I might have died a lot of times just because the moveset is cool and flashy! The only thing I dislike about it tho is the thought that an *Ultimate Genichiro* needs to have the mortal blade. Also, insane attention for that grab attack evasion using the sabimaru!
This fight was intense, Genichiro had to train again and again with all those incridible moves leaving no player to stop even for a second only to die while looking at Ongbal drinking his gourd just to cut himself. My man, you outdid yourself once again.
Goddamn, that is sexy as hell as it is savage. I love the Black Mortal Blade tech performed during the Sakura Dance (a second after 2:05). Of course, our god here just timely parasol-parries it ever so well. Shout-out to the mods for these tweaks.
I love the idea of having to do a back and forth with lightning, makes for a much higher risk/reward with lightning attacks if your reversal can potentially be countered.
if Genichiro really master this technique I think he could have saved ashina without asking Isshin for help But seriously I'd always found ur video fascinating and just as I felt it should be the peak of it and yet again you broke my mind.

@@tayehokianga9549 in canon, the immortal oath will straight up revive you every time you die (but spread dragonrot if it happens too often), while the rejuvenating waters only let you recover from grievous damage, (but you can still be killed, plus too much of it makes you red-eyed, prone to violence and fearful of fire like an animal)

But still sekiro modding is incomplete unless sekiro modders has tools to create new animation and stuff just like ds3 modders

I love the idea of having to do a back and forth with lightning, makes for a much higher risk/reward with lightning attacks if your reversal can potentially be countered.

@@tayehokianga9549 in canon, the immortal oath will straight up revive you every time you die (but spread dragonrot if it happens too often), while the rejuvenating waters only let you recover from grievous damage, (but you can still be killed, plus too much of it makes you red-eyed, prone to violence and fearful of fire like an animal)
Please FROM SOFTWARE hire these Modder for Sekiro 2 these guys are amazing, look at that 3rd phase💪 ULTIMATE.
