Woodturning - A Very Risky Bowl (Yew and Resin)
In this woodworking video I use a woodturning lathe to turn a large piece of air dried yew into a natural edge winged bowl.
when woodturning a piece like i find it important to nibble away at it until I see what shape the wood wants to be, this is what is so enjoyable about woodturning. big log to bowl (little bowl) but i find removing the wood in layers allows me to find the best possible shape.

Sure, being an artist for over 40 years, I will, never ever did I watch wood work until recently and it really amazed me what ART one can create from even the root of a tree. Keep doing it and I am too old to do this or even try but at least I can watch them :) Good Luck Bud

Absolutely wonderful. The circles and colours of this yew wood are amazing; look like several stems that grew together into a same tree, don't they? The result of your work on it is even more beautiful since you let it as natural as possible.

Reminds me of “Kintsugi” fixing broken things with gold to make them more precious. It is a stunning piece. I knew blue and orange made brown but the gold added that 💥💥💥💥💥💥
Thanks Tracey, when I changed the resin to gold I was hoping it would come out fully gold, kintsugi was exactly what was on my mind at that stage, unfortunately the small amount of blue made a huge inpact on the finished resin and it came out kind of deep purple with gold, however in hindsight the resin isn’t at all
garish and is a much more natural colour than I could have planed.

Renaissance painters used purple for Mary and Jesus (because the color was so hard to make). You were Renaissance painter level and didn’t even know it!!

After the finishing the grain becomes that trsnsparent that it is jumping rigtht into into your eyes - wonderful!
