      Ireland is more scenic according to most rankings also it's each individual country so like Wales, England and Scotland are normally individually ranked from what I've seen, Switzerland is still the goat though the scenery there and Italy is next level beautiful

    It is breath-taking, all of the mountainous areas of the UK and Ireland have that similar look and feel, I live in Snowdonia in North Wales which is just like this too, I love it and am an avid fell runner (from the old Norse 'fjall' meaning a high, barren and mountainous landscape) and wild camper so spend as much time as I can up in the mountains, the solitude and beauty recharges my batteries.

    • @markjones127
      @markjones127 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      This video had me checking maps, there's a trail up the mountain behind the lake where you could drop down to the lake from, like always on steep terrain like that it just calls for a longer hike getting up and around the steep ground, also we have a very specific type of mountain shoe which is popular in the UK and Scandinavia which I use in areas like this called fell shoes, unlike your average hiking boots or approach shoes they have studded soles so grip much better on this type of steep grassy terrain, they usually have very grippy rubber for the rocky sections too.

    • @gallowglass2630
      @gallowglass2630 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Wouldn't be as high snowdonia but the land is very sculpted and rugged and hardly anyone lives there,the whole of the beara peninsula which is about 200 sq miles has only 6000 people.The valleys are called glens but some of them are cooms which is an ancient welsh influence.

    The British Isles were covered everywhere with trees, they say you could travel from London to Yorkshire without leaving the cover of trees, and then they started chopping them down, in the highlands of the British Isles and working it's way down to the low grounds before they realised they were short of wood and that's when they started planting fast growing pine trees over the high lands but at this time most of the grounds in many places turned to bog lands and not suitable for planting pine trees.

    As the video says, this is on private land with access only on the landowners permission, a legacy of the unfortunate history of Ireland being for some hundreds of years a colony, and consequently land owners rights took priority to an even greater extent than in the rest of the UK, where ancient privileges to some extent endured.
    With proper access you can visit in the Brecons in Wales the 'Four Waterfalls walk' where:
    ' The 4 Waterfalls Walk is around 4.5 mile. However, depending on which point you decide to start, the route will vary slightly in length.'
    And then there is 'Sgwd Gwladys, Pontneddfechan' where you can actually walk behind the waterfall.

      Scotland is even more fortunate in having a right of access to land, but only after the lairds kicked much of the peasantry off the land and forced emigration subsequent on Bonnie Prince Charley's defeat and so on.

    I've just looked the waterfall up on Google Satellite images- and there are no buildings, roads or obvious paths anywhere near the lake and the waterfall. It is literally miles from anywhere. A fit and experienced hiker could get up there- but it would be a long slog - and apparently it's on privately owned land, so you'd also need permission.

    there are a couple of reasons why the farmer hasn't opened it up to the public. firstly you would need to pass through gates/fields where livestock may be being kept. secondly, he would probably need insurance incase anyone fell or twisted an ankle while on his property.

    I hate to be 'that guy' but - the Mare's Tail is not where the map shows on screen at 1:00, but ten miles to the north-east. According to the contours on Googlemaps the top of the waterfall is at around 350m, but the bottom is at 80-100m, so nearer 250m than 350. Still high, and a fantastic piece of scenery.

    Hi Steve & Lindsey, I know you like to see beautiful places, well one place that very few people outside of the British Islands have ever heard of are 'The Isles of Scilly' .. (NOT the Silly Isles 😡). They are a collection of more than 140 Islands about 28 miles off the coast of Cornwall. Only 5 of the Islands are inhabited, the largest is St.Mary's (Capital is Hugh Town) Tresco, Bryher (the prettiest), St.Martin's and St.Agnes. The population is around 2,300. It is one of the most beautiful places on Earth.
    A shout out to 'When Adventures Knox' -- Isles of Scilly Adventures + Must see attractions -- Top 10. You will absolutely Love it, and it's part of England 🙂

    Not having it a county cork waterfall is not higher than a county sligo waterfall .I am from county sligo and we have the highest recorded waterfall called the devils chimney which doesn't always flow but because sligo is probably the wettest part of ireland so its often flowing. Joking aside i did query the photographer at the time,but as the powerscourt waterfall which flows continuously attracts tourists and to a lesser extent the sligo waterfall these will still be listed as the highest whereas this waterfall is not very accessible and the farmers wouldn't want large numbers like that on there land when i say farmers that land is commonage may be not where the man entered but the rest of the land would be have several farmers grazing there sheep.

    Hate to have to burst an Americans bubble but this completely factually impossible, our highest mountain is carrountoohill which is 1083 feet so it's metaphysically impossible a waterfall exists that size in Ireland of 1150 feet. The devil's chimney near glencar is our tallest albeit seasonally, our actual tallest year rounder is powerscourt in wicklow. Big thank you from Ireland also, your posting doing far too many British videos please do more irish ones, namely wicklow or there were you tubers who did all 43 long distance trails in Ireland you need to check them out, maybe one of your next videos could be glendalough and the wicklow way that'd be amazing. @@peterholmes3011because the UK and Ireland are part of an archipelago of geologically connected islands. Whether we call this the British isles or, mindful of the colonial history, the Atlantic archipelago, or, as here, simply UK and Ireland, these islands are geologically similar. This means they have a shared a tectonic path over the last 500 million years or so and so geologically they constitute a useful collective point of comparison in the same way that a video of the highest waterfall in Spain and Portugal is relevant because of the shared geological history of the Iberian Peninsula.
      If there was a tectonic plate boundary down the Irish Sea and across the border between Ireland and northern Ireland I would agree geological collective terms, and comparisons, are less relevant but that is not the case.
