      There are not so many better games in this category right now. I think only GT Sport is better with graphics and community, little worse with content and physics. And ACC is better with graphics and physics, but less with content and gameplay. Anyway official license is always something special.

    A point worth noting with PC2 is that VR implementation is fantastic. Easily the best looking game in VR.

      Also really easy to get it going in VR compared to some games. Triple Screen is also a snap. Performance in Triple screen is also really good. Just stick it on your Steam Wish List, and filter it so it only shows specials if you can't justify throwing the full quid at it. I still would though. (Sorry Vic, I'm sure you own, and are happy with it - that last part isn't aimed at you)

      Mark Smith. I’m afraid if you want to go sim racing in VR it is PC only at the moment. The next gen consoles should be a different matter though. I bit the bullet and bought a gaming PC to play sims in VR and don’t regret it for one second.

      I realise this is subjective but I can't say I agree. ACC and iRacing look incredible in VR. I don't agree that PC2 is better than either of those. For me iRacing is the best looking game VR or otherwise because of the lighting and natural colours, that makes it more immersive IMO. ACC just looks beautiful. As far as looks in VR PC2 comes behind those IMO.

      Yeah. But best VR in the original Assetto Corsa. I have both games. AC has better lighting and cockpit is much more realistic. In addition, it is possible to walk around the car and see each detail.

    One thing I would like to add is that this game has some of the most in depth vehicle tuning on the market, perhaps only being beaten out by iRacing. And the ability to share setups is a great feature. Something else I find really nice is that every setting, both in setups and in the settings menu, has a description telling you what that particular setting does. For people who aren’t very fluent with that sort of stuff, it makes things far easier

      I had that problem, the cars just seemed to swerve out of nowhere even on straight lines but I managed to fix it by adjusting tire pressure. The game (and even the devs it seems) lead you to use tire pressures that are just too low. I took some theories out of Forza 7 (not quite a full fledged Sim, I know), and set them to about 1.8/1.7 (1.9 on street cars) and that behavior stopped. Did a few laps on Spa testing those settings and it was a breeze compared to before.

    I bought this game in September 2020, making it around 3 years old. I bought it (Deluxe Edition) for 719 INR on the Steam sale. It's really a good game. I'm new into Racing SIMs (so not so good in this game), earlier I only played Arcade racers, but believe me, after a bit of practice you'll be able to play it very well. But to play it, you need to leave behind your Arcade racing mindset. I use Xbox One Controller and it plays well with it (You don't need a Wheel and Pedal setup, but it won't hurt if you have).

Whilst praising VR as a great tool for teaching new track drivers, he also went out of his way to praise the quality of the FFB. My experience is spending 10 min looking for a race, another 20 min waiting through practice sessions and quali, then being punted in T1 of a 5 lap race. I love the game, but every time I go to play online, I spend an hour hoping to get even 5 minutes in of decent racing.

    • @vinsta76
      @vinsta76 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah the game relies too much on too many long countdowns online. Like when qualifying time ends the game gives enough time for everybody to finish their current lap. Which for a circuit like Nürburgring/Nordschleife means if you're sat in the pits when the qualify timer runs out you then have to sit there unable to drive for over 8 minutes while everybody finishes their lap (unless they have the sense to finish early by returning to the pits through the pause menu) which isn't fun. Qualifying should just abruptly end when the timer is up with no waiting.
      Then you have another 1.30 (or 2 min?) timer for everybody to "get ready" or make last minute changes to set ups before the race starts. You can't go away to make a drink or anything though while waiting in case all the drivers go back to pits early or click "ready" early and the race will start while you're away. It's my main gripe with the game. Still love it though.

    I love pcars 2. It is the best all inn one sim. It has its problems though. First and foremost, engine braking is well, fucked. Like properly broken. Increase it to the top two clicks or turn it off completely.
    Secondly, the FFB though good, suffers from two problems.
    1. There is some graininess to it you cannot get rid off. More noticeable in higher end wheels. Reiza says it fixed it by reworking the road meshes. Unfixable by ffb mods.
    2. The lack of y and z momentum on the ffb. Luckily Christiaan at the pcars2 official forums fixed it. It adds consistency to a lot of the content since certain suspension geometries are highly affected by it. Simracer604 did a video on it and I recommend it to everyone. Kind of meh cars like the GT3 become really good and already good cars become excellent. Must have!
    Despite this, I feel that the best kunos' cars in AC fall short of pcars 2. The FFB in pcars2 feels more natural and dynamic and less canned. Definitely worth a buy at a discount.
    Rc, please try Christiaan's mod. You will have to edit the file to increase the FFB strength to 150% but it brings pcars2 close to rFactor 2 in terms of FFB.

GT3 is okay but could be better. The V8 Supercar doesn’t work to well for me and many other cars. It’s just annoying having to change the settings for so many different vehicles. For me Pcars 2 has only one big negative, and that is the FFB. Even with the custom FFB profiles, the game is still far behind the rest of the sims. Too bad it is one of the most importamt thing in a racing sim.
    I really hope Reiza will be able to solve that in AMS2, because the rest of the engine is amazing. Especially the weather engine. For me the dry->wet->dry transition is the best from all the sims. You can really see and feel the dampness of the track chaging, and the racing line becoming prominent quickly when drying. Also great is the way weather can dynamically affect tarmac temperature,s which then affects tyre temperatures, which then affects pressures and grip. Often I find myself pitting during dry -> wet transition not because of the wetness of the track, but because I just cannot keep the tyres warm.
    Also temperature itself has big effect on setup and tyres choices, which is also not that often seen in sims.

      Absolutely agree with the FFB. But the other stuff you like is stuff I don't like. The way so many features are implemented in PC2 are just overdone and gamey. • @theauthenticsteve
      @theauthenticsteve 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@pizza_parker9689 IMO PC2 does not have realistic weather and it is one of those things I refer to as being too gamey. It is canned weather and I think nothing about it is realistic. The only way I can enjoy driving in PC2 is to avoid settings that allow the weather to change to unrealistic. The puddle effect is over done, cars race in unrealistic conditions. The tyre temperatures and effects are also overdone. Like I said I had high hopes for PC2 based on what it promised and claimed but there is a reason most serious sim racers refer to PC2 as simcade. As long as the features are realistic I'll take less features that are realistic over more features that are not realistic any day. PC2 is a hot mess. It has a ton of features that would make it incredible if they were realistic but they are overdone and gamey and more often than not the result is a bizarre driving experience that isn't realistic at all. There are some moments in PC2 that are actually good but it is impossible to escape the smear of turd in that game and there is always something to spoil the experience. If you want that fully featured "realistic" experience, RF2 is much better than PC2 but even then there are elements to RF2 that spoil the experience for me. For me the reason iRacing stands out as my favourite has a lot to do with what they leave out. Although iRacing also has its turd stains iRacing more often stands out because they don't like adding features unless they are realistic. Now as of the latest update on iRacing sim racing has been reduced to less than a handful of car that are essentially in beta on the new tyre model v7. While still a turd of a tyre it is my favourite tyre to drive of any sim and I can't enjoy driving anything else now. And it is still a bit of a turd, it's just that everything else is a bigger turd in comparison. That's my opinion.

    • @pizza_parker9689
      @pizza_parker9689 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Authentic Steve why the hell are you comparing Pc2 to rf2 and iracing? Also you keep saying ”gamey” and ”overdone” care to explain how they are ”gamey” and ”overdone”?

    • @theauthenticsteve
      @theauthenticsteve 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@pizza_parker9689 The answer to every question you just asked is obvious. The features are not realistic. Overdone and gamey as in exactly what those words mean. Weather is overdone, the effects are exaggerated and unrealistic, the conditions you race in are unrealistic also just like all the features of the game. They are exaggerated because it is a game. As Ian Bell has said these were design choices. He also talked about giving people conditions/options they don't have in real life. A sim is something that tries to simulate reality. This is not what PC2 tries to do, PC2 has game features that are exaggerations of reality. The comparisons were explained. RF2 comparison is a more fully featured sim that is also more realistic. iRacing being my sim of choice because I prefer realism over lots of unrealistic features. My point with iRacing is having more game features like unrealistic weather does not make a game realistic. Having realistic features is what makes a sim realistic. PC2 is a game with lots of features. iRacing is a sim that has more realistic features. The weather for example might not have rain in iRacing but the weather in iRacing is more realistic.

    Seems like most guys here are on PC but I’m on Xbox and it’s a game I’ve spent a lot of time on so here’s my short summary: the connection issues on Xbox are unacceptable and is where I place a lot of the blame for the empty lobbies, the ice glitch still appears every so often, and the slow down system is one of the most enraging thing ever with the way it’s set up. Despite this, I enjoy the game a lot, and I’d like to be able to get on PC for the next game because it’s clear the attention won’t be given to consoles.

    Does that Oculus Link via Oculus Quest actually work well enough for Project Cars? I'm thinking of getting into VR, and I love the idea of no strings attached VR, untethered from my pc. And yet, I have a PC that is on the low end of VR compatibility but does pass the steam VR test. I have Assetto Corsa, Dirt Rally, Project Cars 1 & 2 and I'd love to experience those in VR.
    So whilst I'd love that, it's hard to decide whether to get Oculus Rift/Vive ect or go full Oculus Quest with the beta Link with no wastage if my PC doesn't work well with VR.

And especially after learning the basics of the tuning for the cars and creating some baseline setups, it's quite an enjoyable one too.

    I'm no expert so I can only talk about my own experience - I started playing PC2 with a controller (as I was coming from PS4 with GT Sport) and found the controls to be abysmal. So I finally got a racing wheel for christmas (G29) and thought this would solve all the problems. No, not even trying the several recommended settings from TH-cam I found a satisfying way to control and enjoy cars in PC2. I then got both AC and ACC and immediately it felt so much better and more intuitive - it's insane. The lack of a dash cam is also an absolute no-go IMO.

    • @vinsta76
      @vinsta76 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to make changes to the car set up to personalize it to your driving. Some settings work differently to other racing games too. For instance EVERY car I drive I always go into car set up under ECU Settings and turn Traction Control up to 100% and what this actually does is turn OFF TC. If you read the description for this setting you are actually adjust the amount of slip allowed. So 100% lets the wheels slip as much as they can with no correction from the ECU.
      I always turn TC off in driving games so to begin with I was turning this down to 0% but then the car just cuts power whenever it's close to losing traction. I wondered why the car had no power as I tried to accelerate out of corners. Once I realized and turned it up to 100% I could drift around corners like I wanted to and driving felt so much better.

      What you are doing is cherry picking good things about PC2 while saying bad things about competition. All sims have issues and improve at slower rate we’d want. When will clutch bug be fixed in PC2. I use H pattern shifter and actually have to use clutch in other sims. How about support for recent controllers? I think fixing/support stopped after a year. How about FFB? Why so many people criticize it spend several hours tweaking it and finally have to resort to custom file like Christian’s to make it decent.
      How about ability to actually have race with AI that is not stupid. Both those things work great in AMS and rF2.
      OK iRacing doesn’t have rain and snow, but it has multiplayer service with ranking system that works so well that it has way more users than PC2, despite being ridiculousy expensive. Most tracks aren’t accurately laser scanned, but other technique that doesn’t pick up all bumps etc. Physics are good, but there are issues like drifting, curbs pulling outside track, cars handling are inconsistent. Some are great.
      Ok Graphics are good but too much post processing effects, eye candy and actually not that realistic if you ask me, with issues like shadows flickering.
      Sounds are average but people can argue about that. I could go on but point is all sims have issues that players can find disqualifying. I hope PC3 will fix the issues, can have less, but better polished cars with realistic handling out of the box.

Even if you won't benefit from getting of the track in the last sector, your next lap won't count. Also the AI is really dumb. They just stick to their line and crash into you, like you don't even exist. Physics for them are different, too, so they have an advantage on several tracks. For instance you take the Lotus 98T on an ice track and you can barely move but the AI will drive like they are on tarmac

    The game was really great on my PS4, until I got a logitech G29, since then the FFB sucks I set up the FFB so good as possible, but it's still not strong enough at my wheels limit.

    once i got the best controller settings off some youtube videos this game was fantastic to play. there is still the odd car that are difficult to control like the porsche 918 spyder and the go karts but for the majority its great fun.

    The problem with PCars 2 is you have to have a phd in ffb settings to get it to feel even remotely good. And on console you cant download all new ffb files like you can on pc. And i dont think the graphics are nearly as good as they get credit for. The pixely shadow effects hurt my eyes if i drive in them for too long. Even on console assetto is a much more enjoyable experience.

      8802gator no its not its the consoles pc2 requires alot of power to just the game the port on ps4 just doesnt have good shadows because of the lack of power. Its not on other games because i assume that they dont require as much power

    I got Project Cars 2 Deluxe on Steam for $22.49, that's about what it's worth for what it is; although, it would be worth more if the bugs were worked out and some features improved.

    Do people have a problem with handling in this game? Especially with the open wheelers...

    its a nice game not only driving but also to get smarter with how to setup! but there are some issues still to fix for example engine brake is really weird and by setting it to the highest point is also didnt work for me, and the movement of the car feel also strange i always have the feeling i am drifting thru corners what is really strange and non realistic. if pc2 could fix those things i think i will even enjoy.

    I just bought this game and is it just me or completely unplayable on controller?

    • @jm9526

      Cole Athan you are right I have only played it 2 times with controller and it’s a mess but,I have a wheel but to make it better go to settings and adjust the sensibility because it can be improved and it’s better to drive for the controller

      I played a decent amount of this game with a controller before I saved up some cash for a wheel. But there's always some tweaks you can make to have this game pretty playable with controller especially in Suspension settings in a car where you can change the Steering Ratio which basically changes the amount of steering input required to make the car steer in game so you can make it as sensitive or the opposite as possible to get a better feeling of control over the car. I might also add that when I use a controller, I tend to use the 3rd person chase camera like you would in a typical casual simcade game since I can better judge distance between cars coming on either side of me since i can't physically look to the left or right (until I ended up getting a VR headset for this game lmao)

    GTE, TC, Clio Cup, Indycar, and some other cars are excellent. I always create 25-30 min. lobbies with 24h day and night cycle, so much fun with 15-20 players. The factory ffb not so good, but some custom ffb files are excellent. My favorite racing title for multiplayer.
