Buzzcocks - Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn't've) | Reaction!

- Coming into this, I wasn't expecting to find one of the most sensitive and open rock voices I've ever heard. The more I learn about Pete Shelley, the more I like him! I also have to give props to the rest of the band, they were an absolute unit. What a great band name too, this was a very enjoyable reaction for me.
Thanks for watching!

This is why I love your channel. You don't react to the same songs/bands that 1000s of others do. You react to the music that I like and some that I don't or haven't listened to, but I get the chance to hear it for the first time, genuinely. Keep it up!
Truth
Thanks, I try to keep y'all happy!
If you want to sample the Buzzcocks start with the compilation album Singles Going Steady. As everyone has said the best pop punk band, with The Undertones a close second.
"Another Music in a Different Kitchen" - The Buzzcocks, is the best Punk album ever. Flawless and timeless.
Quite possibly THE greatest punk/new wave band, ever. Pete Shelley was a songwriter equivalent of Lennon/McCartney.
Buzzcocks are one of the very best of all poppy punk bands. Even apart from the studio albums their compilation album "Singles Going Steady" has been in my personal top 10 since it came out. And the CD version was even better when it came along with a few extra tracks. I last saw them play in Dundee about 10 years ago and they were still amazing.
Another poppyish band from the punk bands of the time are the incredible Undertones, from Derry in Northern Ireland. It's one of my eternal regrets that I didn't see them live before singer Feargal Sharkey left the band.
More Buzzcocks and plenty Undertones please?!
Fabulous, my favourite punk band i saw many times. So many great songs to recommend, Promises, I Dont Mind, Autonomy, Fast Cars, What Do I Get, Moving Away From the Pulsebeat, Love You More.
Don’t forget “ Everybody’s happy nowadays “ 😊
Just discovered your channel and i love how you react and talk about my favourite band. Im 58 now, but was 12 when i vought my first Buzzcocks record.
You may notice that Pete's songs aren't gender specific, sonthey speak tonyounwhther you are a boy or girl, gay or straight.
Thank you again! You've warmed my old heart.
Wow! I grew up listening to The Buzzcocks and I went to see them a few times when Pete was alive, it's the ultimate teenage angst band of the 70's. 💖
I'm so glad you've got to Buzzcocks! I knew you'd like them. I highly recommend Pete Shelley's solo single 'Homosapien'. It's a new wave/synthpop classic that also deals with themes of gender and sexuality.
''Everybody's Happy Nowaday'' is my favorite.
Pete took over vocals after Howard Devoto left the form his own band 'Magazine'.
Check out Buzzcocks debut single Spiral Scratch. It's rough and raw and very different with Howard on vocals.
And the Magazine cover of "Boredom" from a Peel Session is great fun, too. Plus, Magazine reunited, and during that time made another fine album, No Thyself.
The 1978 documentary "B'dum, B'dum" by Factory Records founder Tony Wilson (link below) recounts the origins of both Buzzcocks and Magazine.

That Peel version of Boredom is by far the best. Devoto sings it exactly how it should be sung.
I saw Magazine at the Forum in 2011 when they reformed, they were superb.
Will check out the documentary.
@@Zubareffstream111 Lucky you to catch them live in 2011!
I picked up the "Real Life + Thereafter" DVD and CD set from the reunion shows, but that's not the same as being there. Even if they sent me a concert t-shirt in the package... :)
Saw them in person here in Canada on the tour that produced "Play", more than 40 years ago.
The Buzzcocks are still touring, with Steve Diggle now on lead vocals.
I loooveee this song! I myself am only just getting into buzzcocks and I react along with you most of the time 😂
Great proponents of the genre, icons of the UK's punk scene, the soundtrack to the mid 70s youth.
The fine young cannibals did a cover in 1986 for the film Something wild.
A cover by Pete Yorn appeared on the Shrek 2 soundtrack in 2004 among others.
This song was on the Shrek 2 soundtrack performed by Pete Yorn, I played the Buzzcocks original for the kids in the car when they were young, they loved it.
Shrek 2?! I must've heard that version then. Glad the kids loved it!
The "love it or leave it" factor is that, in their prime years, the Buzzcocks had three modes: the pop-punk stuff (e.g this), the hard-punk stuff (mainly by Devoto and/or Diggle), and the more "experimental" stuff which tends to repetition and minimalist-style development.
And now the inevitable...Buzzcocks unofficial product:

I fell in love with Pete Shelley (but shouldnt've).
The ultimate punk singles band.
Just perfect punk pop.
Sheer perfection!!
@@ijustneedmyself
Was your name intentionally taken from a Cure song?
@@Zubareffstream111 Sure was! Congrats on being the first person to understand the reference 😊
It's magical ...
Classic pop punk from the originators of the genre. I love how enthusiastic Nick's reaction is because it's exactly how I felt when I first heard it, all the way back in the late 70s.
Another deep one! Subbed several tunes ago. Thanks!
Awesome! So great to see your reaction, thanks ... you must do more!
Great reaction to one of my all-time favourite songs. Another good Buzzcocks song to react to would be "What Do I Get?"
Thank you for adding the subtitles.
I could see that your commentary was very detailed and helped me understand the context of the song.
And, what a lyric song! So romantic!
Going Steady - The Singles Collection, is perfection.
They were really good live as well. Very energetic. What's great about Punk is it's about being yourself which means that each band has a unique style, even if they are identifiable as being Punk.
The Buzzcocks could easily be credited as inventing Emo in a similar way to the Damned and the Banshees inventing Goth.
Pop punk perfection.
Great stuff as usual Nick! Buzzcocks - "Something's Gone Wrong Again" is another great one from theses guys
Have a listen to You Say You Dont Love Me from the 3rd album for an even more polished poppy melodic love song from Shelley in the same vein as you Say You Dont... I think it could have been a number one had it been promoted properly by the record company.
'Lovers are they worth it?' by The Poison Girls
Subscribed! I really like the variety of songs you choose. Some are favorites of mine (like this one) and others I am hearing for the first time along with you. Great channel!
Thank you!
Love the Buzzcocks, and Pete Shelley! He was such an inspiring guy, esp. for all of my gay friends back in the days when the Buzzcocks were around - when he came out it was HUGE. If you haven't yet, you should check out his 1981 song "Homo Sapien", a very tongue-in-cheek way of singing about being bi/gay before it was acceptable. He was so great.

lol cant wait to see if you do an SLF reaction
Loved the Fine Young Cannibals version of this one too....
So this is where The Libertines got their sound from
I never got into The Libertines, but I have been listening to The Sound for the past few days and my first thought was, "Oh, this is where the early 00s bands got their sound from." Lol. Obviously that's oversimplifying things and I certainly don't think that diminishes early 00s indie rock, but I have to admit it's kinda funny. I can imagine back in the early 00s, the generation who lived through the heyday of post-punk and new wave probably talked a lot of crap about those early 00 bands and said, "Why listen to this when I can listen to The Sound/Television/Joy Division, etc.?"
top tune
Their compilation album Operators Manual is a pretty good introduction to the band’s career.
Might I reccomend "Teenage Kicks" The Undertones same year but they're from Northern Ireland its a classic in a similar teen angst vein...
Great song, and yes, super catchy!
Have you heard Ballroom Blitz, by Sweet? If not, I'd love to see your reaction to that.
Great song!
Never Mind The Buzzcocks,!
Your next Buzzcocks reaction should be Love you more. It’s under 2 minutes but a perfect punk/pop song.
Rip pete
l like that you read things, it's your usp 👍
You've listened to most of the big bands from the first wave of UK punk. One that's missing so far is Sham 69 and I'd recommend "If the kids are united". I'd also like to nag you again to react to "Babylon's burning" by The Ruts.
The absolute best!
Also, not sure if you've listened to The Sound, but they've been on my radar for years now and for some reason the other night was the first time I'd listened to an album of theirs. From the Lions Mouth is an excellent album. I really enjoy Silent Air, The Fire, and Winning, but the whole album is great.
Another big hand for The Sound. Maybe Winning (not Maybe Winning but Winning) or Total Recall would be songs to start with.
@@thisworldofwater8017 Winning was actually the song that piqued my interest!
Classic ❤
Try Homosapien by Pete Shelly,, great track
When you listen now you have to like 20 more songs I told you would like it watch live today other groups like 999 and undertones and toy dolls
Check out a song called Lipstick by the Buzzcocks. Very similar to Magazine's single Shot By Both Sides which Buzzcock's Pete Shelley co-wrote. And if you get a chance listen to Top Of The Pops by The Rezillos. It's a fun song 👍
Hello
If you like a bit of punk you should check out a song called Gary Gilmore’s eyes by the adverts. A song about a patient who wakes up with a serial killers donated eyes. A true story. CHEERS!
Well, that's one way to wake up.
Babylons Burning - The Ruts
You need to sweat this one out in a bar near closing time.
Had my first dance with an ex to this song.
Love bites is a great album.
Here's a supplement to the article you read. This is a documentary about Buzzcocks and Magazine from 1978 for Granada TV in the UK by pop culture commentator Tony Wilson, who later founded Factory Records and started the nightclub, The Hacienda, in Manchester.
th-cam.com/video/hox93DETbGo/w-d-xo.html
Please drop the 'The'...... it's just 'Buzzcocks'. 👍😁
The youngest of my sisters was married to Pete Shelley’s brother… Pete was a nice man, but Gary was a complete Twat!
Great choice, a song from my youth. For another punk 'love' song I recommend New Rose by The Damned, their debut from 1976 (widely considered to be the first British punk single).
Also, I like that you don't interrupt the songs like some others do so I have subscribed.
Here is a link but you must promise not to peek at it before you review it! 😉

Hate to be a pedant but it’s Buzzcocks not THE Buzzcocks. Please do 16 Again by them, it’s epic.
I understand
He never used gendered pronouns. Just saying.
