Greedy? Sorry we got to eat too. Contractors, cities, and construction workers are going to profit from this. Real estate agents, attorneys, insurance companies as well. Why can't landlords do the same? Why punish us for saving and purchasing multiple properties and now is our moment? Oh the rules don't apply after 30 days or new listings. I just profit an extra 7k monthly on two rentals in the Eaton area... I'll make sure I'll donate some water when I clear that extra 84k a year

What no one is saying is that price gouging protection for Californians is only in effect for 30 days after the disaster. Please write or call Governor Newsom and ask him to extend price gouging protections from 30 days to at least one year. The applies for rentals as well as goods.
I started a petition called "Extend price gouging protection from 30 days to 1 year for Los Angeles County"
If anyone wants to sign it. The important thing is please contact the governor about this.

@ I decided to go look into this more after I made my dismissive comment above.
California residents have Prop 13 which means that generational homes lost in the fire were already protected from tax hikes/probably enjoying reduced tax status. California also has something called a Calamity Reassessment, if your home is significantly damaged it can be reassessed for tax purposes - needs to be done within 12 months. FEMA provides disaster relief, warning to those out there who have damaged homes, do not ask for donations publicly or else it could disqualify you from federal aid.

We welcome everyone to come to Pacific Bakersfield only 1 hour and 45 minutes from Altadena, $300.000 will buy you a nice home, Only 1 hour and 30 minutes from Hollywood BLVD and we have no danger of floods, tsunamis, fires, earthquakes, congested traffic, high winds, high gasoline prices, we have 2 Costco's, 6 super Wal-Mart's, 20 new car dealerships, 2 bedroom apartment rentals are average $1.300 a month, and hot days are only 2 months out of the year, and we don't drink recycled sewer water as L.A County Citizens do, we get our fresh clean water from the mountains at an average monthly cost of $25.00. And that is just a few to mention positive reasons to live here. I moved here from Santa Monica 30 years ago and I will not go back. Bakersfield has always been known as a "ALL AMERICAN CITY" and a "NO STRESS CITY". And for those people that prefer bigger mansions, we also have the million dollar homes, that are even nicer than the L.A area 5 million dollar homes.

There is no such thing as “rent gouging”, we operate in a free market. Property owners can ask whatever they like for a rental or a sale. The consumer has the right to accept or decline.

I rented an apartment in Beverly Hills from 2016-2021, which has its own rent control ordinance. I stay in contact with some of my former neighbors.
One of them told me that a vacant apartment next to her that was listed at $2400 last week, and which has gone unrented for three months, is now listed at $4000.
The landlord owns 14 properties in Beverly Hills and is a major donor to Gavin Newsom and Karen Bass. I'm sure he'll be in cuffs real soon 😂😂😂😂😂

We have two homes in CA we rent to tenants. Since Covid we haven’t raised their rent. Its hard enough for people already thanks to Biden’s policies.
If you’re a landlord and you are covering your ends and still adding a healthy amount to savings to cover your emergencies, repairs, and health, think about your tenants who may not have that luxury right now.
If they take care of your home and have shown consistency in the past, show that you are human and understand the current situation they’re in. You can’t take money to the grave, but you can rest with a good conscience.

You can avoid price gouging but there's only so many places to rent so the same number of people will without a home. This does prevent the people who do get the place from being taken to the cleaners but many won't report it and are glad to have a place at any price. Maybe you should just take the apartment and then report to police you're being gouged as a strategy to secure a place.

Housing providers are raising rents because their costs have increased, primarily due to higher insurance premiums from covering fire victim claims.
Property taxes have also soared despite the fires.
      Blame your local governments.

Did homeowners have insurance coverage? Wouldn’t their coverage include rental while the home is built? Is like a vehicle, if you are involved in a vehicle accident, the insurance co pays for a rental till your vehicle is fixed or you get a new one. If you have homeowners insurance, it covers Fire and Water damage. Insurance companies are going to increase the premiums or drop you for good but you will get your home fixed. Although it’s getting harder to get coverage in sanctuary California, insurance companies no longer writing policies and leaving for good, just as businesses, all the result of mismanagement by DEMORAT politicians
