forget the jack plate and make a transom bracket that sets the motors back a foot.. You can build a tub that will hold water for better starts then self drain (hole in the bottom) for the best top speed. You should gain 5-10mph.
@@charlieodom9107 jTrue! But an off-shore bracket works on any hull. Gets the prop into clean water. I never liked jack plates, just adds a bunch of weight with little to no performance gain.
@@freeradical6390 wow, your comment is beyond ignorant. Maybe you should do a little more research before making such a fool of yourself in public next time.
Are you aware that Sunsation has built fast boats for a few decades? I think they know what they are doing. And jackplates are perfectly fine and the way to go.Also if you can't get speed from a jack plate, that's on you. I have seen 10+ mph in some situations.
@@AB-80X so, which is it? Does the damn company know what they are doing or not? You can't say that they know what they are doing when it comes to hull design, while saying they do not know that adding a jack plate or standoff bracket will make their boats 10mph faster. So, either you are a complete idiot, which I would hypothesize to be accurate, or the designers at a major boat manufacturer, making go-fast boats, deliberately leaves off a device that would make their boats 10mph faster. Properly designed hulls do not need or benefit from any kind of standoff bracket, which is why manufacturers don't install them on certain boats. Personally, I have been on many boats with and without standoff type brackets, and the only ones that benefit are ones that are not properly designed, or specifically designed for them, in which case they come from the factory with the bracket, I.E. Allison, Bullet, Regulator, Sportsman, etc, to name a few.
No real reason for a break-in. Heat cycle it once to seat the rings, and its good to go. The only reason they recommend a break in is to ensure that there isnt a catastrophic failure due to an inferior engine. If you limit the rpms on the first run, the engine can only get so damaged. Both mercury and yamaha do a full throttle test in a tank to every single engine directly off the assembly line anyways.
Those are the two most exciting guys you could find to do this interview ??? " It was fair ... i was fairly impressed" ... Good Lord ... a couple of wet fishes ... my god ... show some excitement.
Thanks Sunsation for the video, but can you give your though on why Mercury is going to a V-10 instead of just increasing the displacement on the V-8 450R? I am not only curious, I am in the market for a new boat/engine package. WHY? Mercury V10-400R 5.7L 400hp naturally aspirated 89 octane 695lb 3 year warranty Mercury secret Mercury V-8-450R 4.6L 450hp supercharged 89 octane 689lb 3 year warranty Mercury secret Yamaha V-8-450XTO 5.6L 450hp naturally aspirated 89 octane 952lb 5 year warranty $50,000.00 (at least they list their price, and I am sure it's is way less than Mercury) WHY the V-10-400R -- more moving parts, taller, less horsepower, AND naturally aspirated. Yes possibly a small gain in torque at sea level due to displacement, but again more moving parts, taller, and less horsepower. Look at the numbers for Ford V-10 vs Chevy V-8 heavy duty trucks, they have been doing it for a long, long time. Look at Chevys new 2.7L four cylinder turbo, yes a four cylinder -- 310hp and 430 ft torque, at ANY elevation. Supercharging/turbocharging is where things seem to be headed. SO much torque gains with supercharging. Look at Yamaha/Kawasaki/Sea Doo with their watercraft. Their muscle craft are Supercharged or Turbocharged, 3 cylinders pushing out 300 hp. ANY naturally aspirated watercraft doesn't hold water on these machines. WHY not just increase the displacement in the 4.6L 450R if they need even more low end torque and/or reliability? Make the V-8 a 5.7L and keep the supercharging. That thing would be a beast. Thankfully Yamaha is trying. Although they beat Mercury in terms of warranty and are willing to list their price, the weight of their new 450XTO is absurd.
I'm also curious. If I had to guess I would say that some sort of EPA crackdown/ re-interpretation of a "law" has led to this new engine making less power with more. I know thats the case on the automotive side of things.
As cool as the idea of the V10 is, I completely fail to see the point over the slightly lighter 450R and the much lighter older 400R. Adding almost 100 lbs per engine is just not a good choice in my book.
Thanks for coming to Sarasota and ignoring all over our marine speeding and safe boating laws. The "buzzing the beach". Big no no, at anytime, even with a jetski. If I were to do what you guys did, I'd lost my boat, trailer, and haul rig. Next time, take your boat to Lake X, that's what it's for. Oh, I am a Merc guy, and just called the marina for two of these bad boys for my 36' cat.
Wow, you have a video before Mercury Racing does? Awesome!
We’re here to spread the good word!!
❤Sunsation! Sweet Honor by Merc to choose You to launch these 400's on the Best Boat Company out there!! Congratulations Guys! 80! Nice🎉 Job!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🍾

Love Sunsation! Wayne and Joe are awesome to work with. They would always come to Captain’s Choice in Fort Walton Beach with amazing rigs.

Awesome video guys! Was great working with you both in Sarasota.
I agree with the Speed and Feeling take on things.
1st impressions on the trailer: It has a nice deep tone to it. 1st impressions on the water: we have no sterring!
Quality upload 👍🏽
We have most definitely not all been cruising around at 120 miles an hour on a lake. I musta missed the invite
Kinda sounded like a Viper, which is sweet!
thats because its a v10.
Outboards are different and much more quiet now since the days when I had my twin 4 liter V8 Johnsons on my boat where I stayed at the fuel dock all the time.
Mercury is absolutely killing it there 600 hp motor just killed the seven marine seven nobody can compete with them today
Boy I like to work for you guys what a cool job. I all ways like boats I had two hydroplane boats and many more just for fun rock on guys.
I'm going to order a 400R and put it on my 23 Carolina skiff. Hoping to hit 110 MPH so I can get to the beach in 4 min instead or 15 min
😂 I hope you put that on a skiff…. Holy
@@fenderstrat720 oh I will

If they had a better hull, they wouldn't need to do stupid shit to get the boat to run better.

I'll take one.
There goes the warranty. Balls to the wall and no break in. Sign me up.
How cold was it out there testing those motors?
You have to prop with G3 and a laptop as you need to watch linear and load demand
I'm just curious, with probably an almost million dollar boat, why no hydraulic jackplate??

Ok this great and all but how much do they cost?
This motor would be insane with one of those new Sharrow toroidal props (with the loops instead of regular blades.) Bet you'd get 85 out of it.
Yep, Sharrows would help that boat get bite in a sharp turn and they are better for the environment.
I know two guys now who tried to get into the Sharrow prop thing. Only word that fits with that company is scammers.
Why does your office chair have holes for shoulder straps?
How fast is this boat with twin 450?
bottom blows. put a pad on it! a big one as on option! let it get up and fly!
Just wandering why a 4 blade prop? I like a 3 blade prop or a prop used on a mercury 6 drive. Just seems not all in for performance on that pro setup
A 4 blade is superior in most ways.
What model steering wheel is that ?
How does it compare to the 450r?
The 450R is lighter and has more torque. It's just an overall faster setup.
V12 is called 600R ?
This is a v10 with 400hp not the v12 if that’s what you mean
220-221volts whatever it takes.
Wait a sec....
V10 only 400hp?
Does that math seem off?

im guessing its like the v12 with 2 less cylinders so was reasonably cost effective and might be more reliable without a blower on heavier hulls
