Chaos Theory is in my top 15 favorite games and is my personal favorite game of the 6th generation. The only other Splinter Cell game I've played is the OG, but I enjoyed that one, as well. If you like Splinter Cell, I highly recommend the original Thief duology. Those two games were the greatest inspiration behind Splinter Cell's stealth system, with a heavy reliance on player visibility and noise level. Since they're immersive sims, they offer even more options to get through missions, as the levels are often much more sprawling and nonlinear and you're given a variety of tools to use to your advantage. For example, water arrows can be used to douse torches, rope arrows can stick to any wooden surface and allow you to climb up to higher levels or down pits, and moss arrows can carpet loud surfaces like tile and metal flooring. The atmosphere and sound design in both games is top notch, and, although they both contain some atrociously bad missions, they also feature many of my absolute favorite levels in all of gaming. There's a reason that Thief: Gold and Thief II: The Metal Age are my second and third favorite games, respectively, after the original Deus Ex.

The biggest criticisms against Blacklist have no effect on me whatsoever. Michael Ironside not reprising the role, Benjamin Button Sam Fisher, angry grouchy Sam Fisher, plot contrivances, unwelcome new characters.. I heard it all and I completely get it. If you're a diehard fan of the series at that point, I can see why some of those choices were disappointing. I got and played the original SC on day one in middle school, then skipped everything else until Blacklist in college for the nostalgia trip. Since I was way less invested in the narrative, all I knew how to fairly judge was the gameplay which to me then and now still rivals the best of the genre.
Pandora is my personal favourite, I think it has a lot of cool or creative ideas in its levels that are just really unique and left a lasting impression on me.
Conviction doesn’t get the credit it deserves for redefining the stealth genre AGAIN. So many gams that followed borrowed it’s gameplay mechanics especially other Ubisoft games. The marking/tagging enemies for example and the visual detection bar especially. They all came to the genre because of conviction
I agree with most things u said BUT blacklist needs some more respect man. Idk why ppl put it behind the games from the original trilogy so often. Anyway in my opinion it should be the second best Sc game behind chaos theory which is clearly the best one and third place should go to pandora. This is coming from a big fan of the series and i think blacklist should really get more recognition for what it did back in 2013 To be more clear on my take : blacklist had the best and most fluid gameplay of the series, best graphics by far, really good level design and on hard diff the AI was brutal
I’ve been waiting for this video forever! Glad you finally got to play this series! I noticed something, you said you played the first game on PC but the gameplay footage looks like it’s from the PS2/Gamecube versions. I can tell by the unique cutscenes from Xbox/PC, the worse graphics and the level alterations due to weaker console hardware. Was it some kind of mod or something? If not then the PS2/Gamecube version of the OG is very inferior to the Xbox/PC due to its concessions to level design.

I really don't understand how you can put the "Past-Gen version of a Double Agent" in the last place and Chaos Theory in the first place. The "Past-Gen version of the Double Agent" is still the same Chaos Theory in gameplay, only with a new plot and new missions, it deserves to stand next to Chaos Theory.
