@@coffeecomputersandmore2300 Hope you enjoyed them with butter on the toast. Heinz aren't my favourite, prefer the Branston beans. When you heat them on the hob better to simmer until the juice thickens. Essential for me that they're eaten hot; very tasty with a sprinkling of HP(brown) sauce.😋
This is comfort food that many kids in the UK grew up on! I'd put cheese on top as well. I eat a lot of baked beans. They are my go to quick eat when I can't be bothered! I usually put them on a baked potato with some cheese for an easy meal. Or a favourite as a kid is to pour them over sausages and mash.
I ended up making the second helping the next day with buttered toast. It definitely added to the flavor. Chippys, our local Brit market has bangers and mash. I may need to try that.
Butter the toast ,bit of black pepper in the beans ( add a dash of hot sauce if feeling bit more adventurous) then melt cheese on top and you've got yourself a winner 👍🏻
I ended up buttering the bread when I finished I’m off the beans that evening. I also added some grated cheese and crushed red peppers. It was hearty and delicious!

A lot of people in the UK have abandoned Heinz beans in favour of Branston beans, which to be quite frank are of a much higher quality. If you can get them I suggest that you try them. Not a huge difference but a few subtle differences and it makes ALL the difference.
Can be any bread you like, but It's important to spread real butter on the toast before you pour your hot beans on, after that, grated cheese on the hot beans so that the cheese melts into the bean source, then grind a little pepper over the cheese/beans to taste, some pour a little HP brown sauce on top as well, but not to my liking. Unfortunately your American butter does not taste as nice as UK butter, because UK cows are mostly grass fed and US cows are grain fed.
Yup! Check out my follow up video on how I prepped the beans and toast. We do have have some stores that sell butter from grass fed cows in the USA but yeah, you are correct on the feed. I usually purchase imported Irish butter when I can.
Big thick slice of tiger bread (preferably the crust) toasted until dark brown but not burnt, BUTTER THE BREAD (essential and not up for debate), beans lightly cooked through in a pan and topped with chilli flakes, chives and grated cheese with a side of sauasge, bacon and poached egg. My go to breakfast.
grab yourself a bottle of HP Sauce (it's a brown sauce made with spices and fruits) and pimp up the beans on toast, it's also good with breakfast foods such as sausages or bacon in a bread roll. The packaging is a transparent bottle with a blue label with a picture of the Houses of Parliament on it
I always have the beans with two slices of pan bread (Warburtons or Hovis), I toast both so they have a good colour, they then get some butter or margerine on them (preferably butter), I then cut one up into squares. I then pour the cooked baked beans over the toast squares only. (I also arrange the toast squares with the corners placed in the centre, the ones with one side of crust around them and then the inner squares on the outside), all this prior to the beans going on, I think it is helpful in terms of sogginess!! I then eat up the toast squares with some of the beans. When they are done, I take the remaining beans and put them on the other bit of toast and eat it as an open sandwich. This is exactly the same way I have had it since I was a small child. I never have anything else with it, i.e. cheese.

Why such a little bit of beans on the toast we pour it liberally over buttered toast and grate cheese over it I like a bit of hp sauce or branston pickle on top it gives a sweet and savoury taste
As a Brit I would say if you can get it over there then a thick cut Hovis or Warburtons loaf but any kind of regular white or even wholemeal bread should do the trick. The beans have to be Heinz though no substitutes lol. Get that toast buttered up and then add some grated cheese on top. Perfect!
Im from Australia. We eat beans on toast here too. You need to put a generous amount of butter (not margarine, but butter) on the toast when it pops from the toaster so it's semi-melted, then put like only two table spoons on beans on each slice.... you should be able to get 3 meals out of 1 can or feed 3 people.
Your Monterey Jack cheese will be fantastic on top. There’s quite a debate about which is best; cheese on beans on.. or beans on cheese on.. which do you prefer?
I like to put butter on the toast (Dave's Killer Bread) and then sprinkle garlic power on top and then had shredded cheddar cheese and then I put the hot beans on top to melt the cheese. Yum!
You can add whatever you like on top, including eggs, bacon, cheese, whatever. Also, I tend to pile my toast on one side of the plater and the beans on the other - that way there's no chance of soggy toast.
Add butter to the hob when heating the baked beans and add grated cheese on top. Sprinkle some herbs or pepper on them once on the toast. I usually put chopped onions on there. GG.
Did you butter your toast? That’s essential. If you want it really yummy put cheese on top. I like beans on toast with a poached egg on top. It’s sublime
So I fry a few rashers of smoked bacon in a pan with as little oil as possible, after it’s done I’ll drain off any excess oil, then I cook my beans in the remaining bacon grease, while they heat up I’ll cook the toast then cover with a light spread of marmite crunchy peanut butter-break up bacon and add back to pan, beans on toast with a grating of vintage farmhouse cheddar with a splash warchestershire sauce and grill til melted ✌️
I recently ordered these on Amazon and did immediately notice, as you did, the tomato like sauce. I also noticed after the fact that I paid way too much for the ones I ordered. I apparently chose the wrong vendor on Amazon. I am going to try them heated on buttered toast as some of your commenters have suggested. I need to add here that Bush's are they way to go generally speaking. The Van Camp's you mention are the most God awful excuse for beans, almost as bad as their frozen fish products. Enjoyed your video bud and will look for more, you have an excellent delivery. I have British and Scottish ancestry and have tried many of the products from the British section at Publix. Very much enjoy the salad creme and those flaked chocolate bars, need to try the HP sauce.
Although Heinz is considered the 'best' UK baked beans, it's easy to pimp-up the cheaper brands, by adding a small knob of butter & a squirt or two of ketchup, while they're heating up in the pot!! Same taste for a fraction of the price!! 😋😋😋
Nice video. Though, the old saying is true: "There's simply no accounting for taste". There are different aesthetics and different norms all over the world. What is normal in one place could be considered strange in another. When I worked in China years back, I had dinner at a Dai (which is a tribal minority in the Yunnan Province) restaurant that was considered superb. One of their specialties was stir-fried bees. I'm not afraid to try most things and the bees were no exception. It started out great. The aroma of the spices was wonderful. The first taste of the seasoning on my tongue was excellent. The crunch of biting through the deep-fried exoskeleton was even pretty extraordinary. But, once I was past all of that, the texture and consistency of the bee innards were more than I could stand. They were gooey and slimy...or, exactly what you would expect the inside of an insect to be like. Still, everyone around me seemed to be loving the dish. So, since it was their native dish and I was a foreigner, who was in the better position to declare what was "normal" or "delicious"? It was like an old teacher of mine once said. "It's not a matter of good or bad. It's just different."
I'm still annoyed that I can't get Heinz Beanz here in Pittsburgh, the birthplace of the H.J. Heinz company. What's funny is that the "beanz" in that can came from North America. Still a good dish though. I tried with the Heinz Beanz and they weren't that far off from the generic "pork and beans."
Totally unrelated but the same idea is that I can’t get a short box Chevy Silverado Trail Boss 2 door pick up but they export them from the USA to the Mideast. I don’t get it.
Funny review , but to the point ! you can go one better if you slice up some chilli's and whack them into the beans ! another classic english brand of beans which many favour over heinz is " Branston " if you can find those , def give them a shot too , they also do a spicy variant of the beans for added flav :)
I have the recipe and it's even better plus a pressure cooker helps as it cuts the time way back and negates the need for soaking..At the end of the day your version, once you get the hang of it, will be similar but more tailored to your taste.
Try Branston's Beans next. The sauce is much tastier, but too thick for beans on toast. Also, adding a Babybel or two to the beans gives a nice cheesiness, or chopped up British/Irish-style sausages. Richmond's "Irish Recipe" sausages are my family's personal favourite, especially overcooked and drenched in bean sauce! Yummy!
We don't call it beans and toast, its beans on toast. It is most often buttered toast. People have various accompaniments but grated cheese is very popular and so is HP sauce. We also use a knife and fork here as opposed to the American shovel style.
Today is my first time trying this style, I came across this video to see others reactions/comments on it. Off the first bite, I thought they had actually gone bad? I’m assuming from that acidic component.. but as I eat them it’s exactly how you described it! I definitely feel like I’m drinking tomato juice on the aftertaste though haha.
Note for Americans if you try this make sure the beans are British beans not American, as American beans are usually a variant of Boston baked beans (Ie has molasses based sauce & sweeter) not British baked beans (tomato based sauce)
Some people misunderstand the purpose of this dish. They act like brits eat it for every meal. What this is is a quick thing you can make in under 5 minutes if you can't be bothered cooking that will make a nice lunch or something. Where an american would reach for the kraft boxed mac and cheese a brit might make some beans on toast and both from a taste (especially once you add a few bells and whistles) and health standpoint I can tell you which one I'd prefer to eat.
Seems like us Americans hyper focus on just a few certain elements of culture and that seems to be the case with food. To be honest, I can only name a handful of authentic British food dishes which is sad because I’m sure it extends beyond bangers and mash, figgy pudding and beans and toast.
@@coffeecomputersandmore2300 Shepherds/cottage pie, apple pie, fish and chips, a collection of native curries, sunday roast, toad in the hole, steak and kidney pie/pudding, pork pies, pasties, sandwiches (that's one that often gets overlooked), cheddar cheese (which in turn is the basis for things like american cheese). That's off the top of my head, there's probably lots more.
I can get the Marmite up at Chippys. I will get some for part 2! Also, I wasn’t sure what kind of cheese was most popular to grate into it so I will definitely get some cheddar!
@@coffeecomputersandmore2300 Be very sparing with Marmite, I suggest you put a bit on the side of your plate and with the tip of your knife dab a little on the edge of your toast with each bite, some people hate marmite, I love it.
I would not eat baked beans on toasted American bread. American bread to me tastes more like cake due to the amount of sugar it contains. In fact I'm sure Ireland has banned American bread as the amount of sugar means it can't be classed as bread.
You didn't butter the toast??? Sprinkle some grated cheese on top while it's hot so the cheese starts to melt. Try it with a slice of smoked ham as well.
The recipe that I found online didn't mention butter but I did make a follow up video to this one where I added butter, cheese and HP sauce it was awesome!
Use decent bread - the US sweetened bread is not as good. Butter the toast with slightly-salted butter and add an ounce of butter to the beans too as you heat them. As others have said some grated cheese (decent cheddar - not US processed rubber) on top is quite nice.
Definitely butter the toast. No real need for anything else, but a sprinkle of Lea & Perrins Worcestershire sauce is good, not too much though. Serve with a fried egg or bacon and you have a whole meal. I reckon it's the American grits lovers who don't Brit Beanz, and I hate grits!
I am from the Northeast US and you don't see grits as a menu choice very often here. Of course they're huge in the South. I was told by a Southerner once that originally grits were mostly consumed by poor folk because they act as a food extender, picking up the flavor of whatever they are served with. I don't object to them at all. When I am in the South I occasionally include them. If you have them alongside roast beef for instance, they will pick up the flavor of the roast and can be quite delicious.
Cold beans out of a can. That's the way to eat them. Those who say they can't do it will die in the apocalypse, leaving more canned beans for the rest of us.
I ended up doing buttered toast for the second helping that I ate the next day. I also added grated cheese and some black pepper. It definitely transformed the meal!
Never eat beans cold….always lots of butter on your toast. And please use a knife and fork in the BritishWay….. …you have missed the whole British Beans on Toast experience… please try again, then report back…. Some like grated cheese on theirs , and or pepper and salt, but already lots of butter , with everything piping hot……. It’s like you watching me eat an all Americann hot-dog, cold first , then eaten using a knife and fork……..DANG !

Stick a good dash of Worcestershire Sauce to give an interesting twist.
Always butter the toast.
Yup! I did that on my follow up video!
Tell me you buttered the toast!!!?
I will on part 2.
Toast your bread more and use a good loaf without additives. Butter the Toast too makes a huge difference and add grated cheese for a quick lunch
Check my part 2!
Those are Harricott beans. Cheap protein.
Can i ask how much beans are in usa?
$3.50 USD at Chippys.
@@coffeecomputersandmore2300 Ouch thats expensive. It's about 65p a tin in the UK. Got to love those import prices. They probably came from the UK.
@@eezZzee Ha! Yeah probably!
Nothing in,, oh we ll have beans on toast x
add a bit of grated cheese on top.
Good idea!
You have to butter the toast with salted butter to appreciate the beans on toast experience
I agree!
I add chopped up fried pepperoni or bacon to mine
Solid suggestion!
Yes as previous poster, grate some cheddar cheese into the pan with the beans, I also put marmite on the toast. be sparing with marmite ;)
Yeah, we put a crazy amount of refined sugar and corn syrup in so many of our foods.
A little bit of butter in the beans when warming them
Absolutely!
@@coffeecomputersandmore2300 Yeah, us Brits would never have it without butter. Glad you liked it.
Use decent bread - the US sweetened bread is not as good. Butter the toast with slightly-salted butter and add an ounce of butter to the beans too as you heat them. As others have said some grated cheese (decent cheddar - not US processed rubber) on top is quite nice.
Check out my follow up video, I did most of what you just recommended.
From what I hear, American bread is unsuitable, as it's sweet.
In my follow up video I tested this again with additional toppings with an English style/recipe bread and it made a tremendous difference.
Baked potato with butter and some grated cheese, and some beans thrown on top. Nothing wrong with that.
Sounds great!
I added butter to part 2!
I agree. I actually like the difference in flavor of the cold vs. warm.
Butter the toast add a dash of hp brown sauce
I did that in part 2! It was sooo good!
Must put lots of butter on the toast before the beans go on.
I believe I did that on part 2!
Butter on the toast please little bit of HP sauce on top
I ended up doing buttered toast for the second helping that I ate the next day. I also added grated cheese and some black pepper. It definitely transformed the meal!
You shall be mentioned in dispatches good show that man .
Check my follow up video.
Butter the toast then hp brown sauce on the beans.
I ended up buttering the toast the next day when I finished off the beans. Definitely made a difference! I will pick up some HP sauce soon!
I’m English…and eating cold beans would make me gag…hot on buttered toast with hp sauce is the way..
I got another can and some HP sauce! Does it just get poured on top of the beans or does is get mixed in the beans while cooking?
@@coffeecomputersandmore2300 when your beans on toast is on the dining table you add hp cold with in a heart shape..
You eat it before the beans juice makes the crunchy toast soggy..
You got to butter the toast, and if you want a bit extra, add Worcestershire sauce.
It's pronounced wus-ter-sher sauce. You're welcome.
Thanks! My buddy that corrected my pronunciation on the sauce is from Connecticut so he had a slightly different take on the sound. I also added butter to the toast in my follow up video.
better hot and adding curry or chilli powder. heinz can't really compete with the budget brands now after the kraft takeover, sauce is now thinner
yip butter on toast
I did a part 2 and added butter, cheese and HP sauce and it was very good!
Try buttering the toast first. Rather than Heinz go for Branstons beans, has a much thicker sauce than Heinz
plenty of black pepper on mine
Solid suggestion!
