    I don't understand (I do understand it is a money thing...) why I can't have an eShop "dad" account that pays for the game and then have 2 switches for my children (I don't even have a switch, just the kids) that have a "user" account to play the games that I pay for. I just tried the airplane mode "hack" and either I did it wrong or Nintendo has fixed it. Is there seriously not a way for me to buy a digital download of a game and then install that game to each of my children's switches so they can each play a game that I have paid for? Who in the world wants to buy multiple copies of a game?? It's like paying your ISP for each device connected to your home internet a-la-carte... RIDICULOUS! Maybe I have my accounts setup wrong, I'll fiddle with it some more I guess. It is a great video though :)

    • @gdn86
      @gdn86 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, thats just how it is. If you have 2 switches, you're buying 2 copies. If you have 3 switches, you can buy 2 copies and have one of the childs accounts just use the main login to play whatever games you don't want to buy 3 copies of, but you cannot then all 3 play the same game at the same time, which means anything multiplayer (i.e. Mario Kart 8, Mario World 3D, Mario Party) the shared game won't work. It really sucks. I pay $80 a year for NSO with the expansion pack, and I end up spending $60 per copy (NSO vouchers currently save you $20 per 2 copies, buy you have to have 2 games in mind, if not 3 = $300 to really benefit) for each game. Nintendo titles rarely go on sale, and those are the games my kids can and want to play.

    • @CrispyMilkk
      @CrispyMilkk ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately no, if you buy a membership for one account it will stay for that one account, the only way to get online membership for multiple profiles is to buy the family membership

    • @gdn86
      @gdn86 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CrispyMilkk Family membership is worth the additional cost IMO at this point given how many retro games are on there, along with the voucher deals they are currently running as of Feb 2024. I grabbed a few of those for each account since all the games my kids want or will want are on that list of eligible titles. It's saving me at least $60-120 over the next year. This multiple copy shit is still crazy though. If you have a family membership with childrens accounts, you should be able to share games and play over at least local networks multiplayer.

  • @thelegendoflink9140
    @thelegendoflink9140 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I think if you make an account, an make that a "children" account, and gives your main account parental control or something, you can play the games of the main account without issues. not sure entirely what its called or whatever, I just know that my buddy does this with his kids and has no issues.

    • @gdn86
      @gdn86 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@panpan4409 You can only play the same game at the same time with 2 separate accounts, which means you need to purchase 2 copies. Cheapest way to do this is to buy physical copies as they are usually less, especially used, but if you have kids you know how easily they will lose games or worse, break the console trying to force the cart inside. I've opted for 90% digital for those reasons alone, not to mention just the convenience of it. My kids Switch Lites currently hold Mario Kart carts, and the rest are digital copies of any games they will play, with one Switch having my account on it for titles I only need 2 since all 3 of us will not being playing at the same time pretty much ever. Anything we have or will play multiplayer with all 3, I've avoided the issue and bought 3 separate copies. For those instances, grab the Nintendo vouchers, spend $300, 1 set of vouchers per account, and buy them that way. Between all 3 it saves you $60-90 depending on the games overall, so instead of $360 for 3 games, 3 copies each, you spend $300 for the same games. For example, Lugis Mansion, I'll share that on one childs account, same for Odyssey, same for Pokemon. None of those really benefit from multiplayer, and very low chance we would all play them at the same time, and I'd concede my account for them to do so if needed. For 3D World, Mario Kart and Mario Party, those would be good titles to get for this use case. 3D World in particular is a game we will all be playing when my middle son's birthday rolls around in March. I've already purchased 1 copy and have vouchers on their accounts for when they are allowed to get that game. We have about 2 months for them to figure out the next game they want to play, but it seems like the top choice right now.

    If you are using system #1, who should buy games in the future? Since Geebs is now primary on Mrs. Geebs' switch and vice versa, and I assume Geebs' still uses his switch (which, technically would be his secondary switch), which switch should he purchase new games on moving forward? His switch (secondary) or Mrs. Geebs' switch (primary)?

  • @gdn86
    @gdn86 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The second option is really the only safe way to do this. I have 2 kids both with Switch Lites, and I'm only buying 2 copies of most games unless there is a reason for all 3 of us to be playing multiplayer on each Switch. I always buy a main copy of it on ours, and a second copy on one of the child accounts, and the other has my login. I will have to turn off the cloud saves on this one though as I hadn't thought of that. Games like Mario 3D World, Mario Kart or any other multiplayer that we would actually do that for, I'm stuck buying 3 copies. The airplane mode thing seems like a good work around, but with how inconsistently they play each game at any one time, It's just a headache.
    The Nintendo game voucher deal is saving me at least 1 full price game for each 3 I will buy currently though, and the points will help down the road for any additional purchases.

    • @gdn86
      @gdn86 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thats the real issue. Any multiplayer games this isn't going to work. Mario Kart 8, Mario World 3D, Mario Party are all titles that I'm stuck buying 3 copies of. Sure we can run them on the main switch on one TV, but them having their own systems is part of the benefit of even buying them so everyone has their own screens. There are games to play on a TV, and Mario Party would qualify as well as Switch Sports, but I also currently only have 1 set of joy cons, so thats another investment. When I got the original Switch my kids were under 2 years old, so there wasn't a need to buy more. So glad they're $80 for another set... and the ones we have are starting to get stick drift, so $160 here I come. Nintendo has cost me more than any other gaming system I've ever owned so far.

    So just out of interests whats the point of a family account ? I thought you could all play online at the same time providing you are not playing the same game ?

    • @gdn86
      @gdn86 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can all play online playing the same game, provided you buy a copy for each account under the family plan. If you want to game share, you can put the primary account on one of the secondary systems and play games using that account, but only one of those switches can be playing any one game, meaning both could not be playing the same game at the same time, and no multiplayer. I use this to save a little for one of my kids switch lites, since I'm not going to be playing Odyssey or Luigis mansion at the same time as him, but his brother might, so I've purchased those games for him on his. I also have a 3rd kid, who is much younger, so he will probably end up being the main benefactor of my Nintendo game library by the time he's old enough. Unfortunately, I'll be buying 3-4 copies of everything when that happens so they can play together. This is just the beginning.

  • @l.surreal1094
    @l.surreal1094 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Help. I’m buying 2 Lites for my teenage kids. Kid A would have to setup their account on Kid B’s and vice versa in order for them to play all games they download, correct? That way I don’t have to pay twice?

    • @gdn86
      @gdn86 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can set one as the main account and create a secondary account for the 2nd switch, BUT, they will not be able to play the same games at the same time, and 100% no multiplayer. If this is an issue, get a yearly family membership for all the retro titles, and grab a bunch of the game vouchers. You get 2 for $100. So any big Nintendo titles are $60 each usually, you save $20 total. They can then buy whatever big titles they want, and play games together or separately without issue. You can't share vouchers between accounts though, so its $200 total, but each would get 2 games. I know, I know, this all sucks, but I'm taking time to figure the best savings. Other route is to just buy physical copies of everything. Teenagers should be able to not lose the games, but you know how that goes.

Nintendo game vouchers are my current go-to this month as it saves about $10 per copy, or buying physical copies which can be much cheaper. Physical copies I am perfectly fine with, and will continue to do so, but not for my kids games as they WILL lose them, or worse, damage their consoles by forcing the game in the wrong direction or switching (no pun intended) them out too frequently.

      It's annoying and honestly, fucking infuriating to have to buy 3 copies of the same game. Nintendo should do better, but they won't.

    The 100% solution is to make money by the sweat of your brow. Buy Mario Kart 5 times, 1 for each switch console. Sleep well at night as a proud father who can provide non-essential luxuries to your family. Therefore, eliminating any future potential headaches, violations, and banned accounts will occur when trying to nickle & dime Nintendo corporation. 👑
