Mk2 VW Polo Upgrade Gone Wrong: Diagnosing the twin cam AFH Engine Swap!

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 11 มี.ค. 2024
- I Bought this Unfinished Volkswagen MK2 Polo Project with a engine swap from a mk3 polo/lupo. I think its a 1.4 but could be a 1.6 not 100% 🤦♂️ turns out the electronics are in a bad way and need some serious sorting, and as for the engine itself fingers crossed it can be saved!!
please if anyone has any info on where that cam timing marks should line up I would be very grateful!
thank you very much for watching I hope I'm not too far in over my head with this one!
Whoever did the music is a very cool and nice guy
Your young enough to make a good living out of this venture, trust me your making all the correct mistakes and choices, yep sounds odd but I've been there, correct mindset is the win, great channel.
Looks like a decent start place for a project, very rust free example. Hope you get some good feedback on fixing that engine issue, as with a bit more power, it would probably be a fun little car, just watch out for the nonassisted brakes they scared the s out of me when I drove one!
Thank you! Yess I had one a while back the brakes are shocking!! I think if I get this roadworthy then that is a must do upgrade!!!
My first car!!! Mine had drum brakes and they were bad!!! Love cmc uploads.
Been looking forward to this one mate 👍🏻👍🏻. Good luck with the wiring 🤯🤯. Oh wow I've never seen a engine in that condition so bad. Keep up the great work mate 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you!! I know me neither!! I'm hoping some engine flush will clean some of it off! 😬 Wonder how it got so bad...🤔 Wrong oil maybe?
@@cashmachinecars . Hope they haven't put sawdust in the oil to make the engine quieter 👎🏻👎🏻Just get some thick floor mats a hide the wires underneath mate 😅😅
Could be manifold blowing too making the tappet noise louder
I owned one of these decades ago. Easy to maintain, reliable, no frills. I think mine had a 1200cc engine. Unfortunately someone ran into me and the car was a write off. I think that was 1994.
AHH what a shame! I had a 1l around 7 years ago and also got run into on a roundabout, fixed it all up then the head gasket blew 🤦
It looks in exceptional condition, definitely worth fixing
Thank you, fingers crossed 🤞
Looking good mate
The drivers side engine mount n eds a plate fabricating as there's only two bolts.. this is why you had to fabricate an alternator bracket. Wouldn't trust the engine mount with only two bolts, need to make a plate that ties the engine mount and alternator bracket together (further down the engine)
Yes your probably right!
Its got the wrong ecu in it I have the same engine in a skode felicia estate the immobiliser you just need to polo 6n immobiliser box and key it need the switched ignition and earth and it uses kline to talk add a obd port... ecu uses power switch power kline and power out to fuel pump check power to coil pack sounds like no spark if immobiliser it will run then die
Good luck with spaghetti junction, nice little sleeper.
Haha thank you 🤦 fingers crossed it should be a nice little car
What a brilliant project hope you can sort it, sorry cant help you with information, i like the vw breadvans.
Thanks Mike, it's slowly coming together, they are pretty cool, could sign write it and use it as a little van
I definitely think it sounded tappety. I was going to suggest checking the oil, as it could just be low oil or the wrong spec. However, seeing the state of the head, I think what you have said is a fair assumption. If you have access to an ultrasonic tank this would be a good way to clean them.
I’m sure clocks are coded to the ECU, try unplugging the clocks when it’s running
Slaughterhouse customs are a classic VW specialist and do engine conversions. Bet they knew the engine was toasted
The company on the decal on the back of the car, has a TH-cam channel too. Maybe worth a peek to see if there’s any clues as to what’s gone on before you got it?
I’m not going to be any help on the engine situation but as far as value in the purchase, I’d say a decent, pretty much rust-free, Bread Van without a motor in at all would be a good buy for £500 for a project car. If no go on that engine then it would be a good candidate for a turbo diesel conversion perhaps? Not necessarily for you but an option for someone if you sold it on. But let’s hope a good internal clean up fixes the tapping and you can carry on with what you already have. 👍🏻
Is the exhaust manifold blowing tapping?
tensioner belt or pulley
Tbf you’re best point of call is a Haines Manual
Yes you are right! I haven't got one but I think I've found some useful information online!
@@cashmachinecars when I was in college and worked on my cars every time I bought a car I’d buy the Haines manual to go with it lol.
But I don’t bother now I get the garages to do the work
No fun working out in the road need a garage and a ramp somewhere to store all the tools and shyte that comes with it.
i’ve got a correct alternator bracket for sale should you need it
Worn tappets
Definitely sounds like it!
your a nice enough lad but mechanic your not so think you need a dont try this at home banner at the begining
