The main story is ok I guess, but the DLC really didn’t give us enough. The First Order’s origins need to be explored more on-screen since it never really was, which definitely a problem with the Sequel Trilogy: lack of explanation.
It's because the sequels are just a lazy retelling of the previous films. They used the formula of "authority bad, resistance good" swapped some names and genders around, then cashed in their checks. They don't have an origin story for how a powerful political faction could find supporters, benefactors, and soldiers from the ashes of a defeated Empire because it never occurred to any of the executive leadership to think about that. They didn't care about making a complex and entertaining story. They just wanted to get paid. Should have made a bounty hunter trilogy instead. Would have matched their creative ideology.
Reminds me of a video by the Templin Institute, where they basically redid the background lore of the Resistance and First Order. I really liked how they changed it. It was a bit different than in the movies, but was so much more thought out and seemed like it would be plausible to happen and develop how they wrote it. All to say, I wish we got a background and overall version of the First Order more like that one.
@@ajthereptile The Millennium Falcon for example, the one we all know and love can be destroyed, but its not actually the only YT-1300 in existence, but they are all "one of a kind" due to the fact that they are easy to customize in many ways.
@@ajthereptile What I'm saying is, the Corvus is only the name and the memories made aboard it, that's what make it unique. There are probably hundreds of "Corvus's" that were produced, we just don't see them all.
Space battles in the movies makes it seem like they’re flying and fighting at break neck speeds while the games make it feel like you’re just cruising through your neighborhood at night while smoking a joint. At least the latter is a lot more fun in actuality.
One of the developers exact line in OFFICIAL advertisement was that youd be able to play the ENTIRETY of the campaign as the Empire. Well that was clear false advertisement
I replayed the DLC story mode for couple of times and discovered new stuffs in it. One of which is the Hidden orbital strike binocular in game, kinda funny seeing first order star destroyer firing on it's own army with it.
In case some of you don't know, Zay's and Shriv's story continues in a novel that sets up how the Resistance finds additional troops for episode 9. Spoiler sort of: Most of the additional troops are former imperials who prefer what the New Republic offered them over the Empire. Can someone please reply with the name of this book, I can't remember the title off the top of my head?👇
I personally didn’t really like it. The most skilled and prestigious soldier of the Empire defecting to the Rebels within 3 missions was disappointing. Iden should have stayed longer with the Empire
The book was better. A lot better. In my opinion. Crazy cause it was probably meant to tie in to the game but I honestly think it works better the other way around. If no one here ever tries the game I'll always recommend you at least consider the book. To me it really is that good and now I can't help but call coffee Caf
I was perfectly fine with her turning to the rebels cuz it’s literally Star Wars but I just wish they would’ve fleshed out her time with the empire a little more.
16:52 I think Vardos wasn’t included in MP because there would be no story for the attack. Every MP map has a tactical reason for the factions fighting there, so why would the factions fight on Vardos?
Honestly the book really made it seem like there wasn't going to be many reason Iden would even consider defecting. That undercover mission was so fucked and she still decided to just keep being an imperial. Feel like the writers for this game just got told by Disney to make it a good guys story anyways
@@fuoco1365 yeah seemed like they were writing two different stories at once. I haven’t played the game myself but why does Iden defect to the rebel’s in the game
The only Star Wars video game that has a campaign with an imperial main character that doesn’t defect that I know of is Squadrons (absolutely underrated)
There’s cool ideas at play that help make the story standout: the corpo people who still use clone wars vessels for their versatility, exploring a planet destroyed by Operation Cinder, seeing Starkiller destroy Hosnian Prime while exploring, flying into the Resurgence and stealing the plans for the Matador. It’s just the pacing and odd choices hinders the rest of the dlc making it more confusing than fun.
To be honest, I really enjoyed the story campaign and even replayed it multiple times. Because I didn't have any expectations and avoided spoilers, I didn't even know that this was supposed to be a story about the empire perspective, so I wasn't disappointed when Iden turned. Yes, such a story could have been great too, but it doesn't take away from my enjoyment of what we got. I understand the disappointment for those who expected something different though. Seeing the empire fall after Endor was something that we only got to experience through the aftermath novels before, so I loved experiencing this through a more visual medium and I was amazed by all the details they thought of. Just listen to the NPCs talk...
There is a Star Trek Online console that is basically a Sizmick Charge and I use it on one of my flagships. I literally laughed so much when Boba used one on the Sarlacc in BOBF.
A bit late, but what's funny is battlefront 2's campaign and DLC were the straight-up first pieces of Star Wars for me, along with the Mandalorian. I kinda have a warped memory of it, but I liked the campaign for the most part, some missions were boring, but that's all I can remember.
I played the whole story, dlc too, and the first part of the story I really liked, every mission was fun, but they definitely should've done like 4 or 5 more missions with more elaboration on Iden's transition into the Rebellion. Like a spy mission where you make more use of her silent takedown ability like you do in the first "mission" of the game and you're actually looking for her father or something like that.
I just want a starwars game or really any game to actually let you be the bad guys. I'm sick of "hope, love and friendship" winning the war, I want to watch it all burn and have the bad guys win. It's why Revenge of the Sith is such a great movie, it doesn't do the typical "good guys seem like they are losing then bring it back at the end for a shocking win". Some times people need to see no matter what you can still lose.
And this might be an unpopular opinion here, but I feel the First Order as a whole was rlly dope, from the standard Stormtroopers armour design, to the Jet, Flame and Snow variants, not to mention the vehicles were pretty neat too. Just a bummer that they didn’t dive deeper into them as a faction 😂 Missed opportunity for sure.
I’m pretty sure that if you get to the At-At on the original vardos mission without killing any stormtroopers (or very little), Del says something. I tried this a while ago, so I could be wrong.
Disagree with the statement that there was a bunch of content on release. It took them 2 years to even match the content the original Battlefront 2 had from 2005!
i can only say the story mode was ok, it was pretty... I do agree with your opnion on staying as evil iden espically since you dont get to play as a hero version of her >_> and only villan
Tbh it makes a lot of sense for them to still be flying upgraded x wing’s after only 30 years. Why change from the best fighter ever developed just for the sake of it? The way x wing’s were in the sequels made perfect sense
I’ve enjoyed the dlc personally. In fact I enjoyed a lot of Battlefront II. I feel like people these days hold everything to such a high pedestal-that if games can’t reach it-it’s garbage. I think the story was pretty cool I just think they could have put a little more effort into introducing more of the characters. No bruh, the story of Iden turning good was such a let down. I wanted an Imperial story
