had an abs issue with my XK8 couple of years ago. important to notice: early XK8s and later (4.2ltr) have very different electronics. the 4.2ltr are quite modern, with active sensors where one can't measure the sensor resistance in an easy way. it's a good idea to follow the trouble shooting guide in the official reference handbook. replace sensor, perhaps change for a known good one from a different wheel to check. if front axle, replace wiring from sensor to car, they may fail over time where they go over the upper wishbone and aren't expensive. abs modules for 4.2ltr are unlikely to fail, so check wiring loom first. with mine, the big multiconnector thing needed repinning. the workshop who changed the wiring to the sensor had managed to damage the connector to the module while doing so, pushing back one of the pins.
Hi John. Great first video on fixing your ABS unit. Can't wait for part two. Agree with your analysis of the Jaguar advert. Let's hope they keep the 'gentlemen's express ' element 😊👍
Thanks 👍. Yes, Im very much amoungst the more optimistic of my friends, and I think the car that emerges will be desirable. (to whom, we will wait and see!) Its still the all Battery EV route that concerns me most. Toyota know a thing or two about selling cars worldwide. We dont see them on an all BEV journey. I just hope Jag can pivot into Hydrogen or a hybrid technology, quick enough
Really informative thanks John. I recently removed my front sensors and gave them a clean. Seemed to fix the perennial problem well but error eventually popped up again. I suspect our very dusty roads may be to blame but really good to know about this option. I actually watched Part II before this one (which weirdly feels like seeing into the future while watching this vid). Now I know what Im looking at when looking at the ABS system so thanks again. Hi from a very hot dry summer in Canterbury NZ.
This also covers my 2001 (X308) XJR I have, ... The engine basically the same, and most of the running gear the same as well, ... Enjoy watching your videos, very educational, keep them coming. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the info @EssexSilvering. I 100% agree and often tell folk that if you find info on the X308 You will have 90%of what you need for the X100 and vica versa. They are true sister cars.
Hi John. On having the same problem on mine a couple of years ago, I followed your advice: I got religion and checked/replaced the battery (and now keep it on trickle charge - via a C-Tek unit - when not in use), which solved several minor niggles, but this one. However, my particular problem was the wheel speed sensor (phew!).
Hey I just bought 2003 xk8 convertible your videos are so insightful and informative. I love them and am becoming a jagafial! I live on n New Jersey so I’m going to do some work on it in spring following your repair guides
Hi John. I have a 1997 coupé which i bought new. I have had the same problem but i fixed it simply by thoroughly cleaning the male and female of the uppeŕ plug . Since then no problem 😊. I suggest you do the same when you reassemble.... From a lincolnshire lad now résident in France !! Quintin
Great video again John. I have similar issues going on with the ABS Light. I work with a mechanic about half the time on things like brakes. My front left sensor identified for replacement and just received a new set of 4 from the US via Amazon. Will get the dodgy one replaced very soon. Gday as usual from Sydney!!
Hi John, This time a really exciting video. I am looking forward to the sequel . Occasionally I have had the ABS light come on. But not for long. I hope it stays that way. Thanks for showing the video. Greetings Udo from the island
This ABS warning kept coming up due to a faulty gearbox rotary switch . Since have switch overhauled all working fine. Did a repair to a Volvo V70 ABS valve block some years ago a. ATE , a common fault .
Hi John, I had the same faults showing on my xkr and it turned out to be a failing wheel bearing, A small amount of travel at the hub was effecting the abs senor pick up.
I had the ABS light come on on my XKR a few times over the last couple of weeks - recharged the battery a few days ago and so far it's not come back. Keeping fingers crossed!
Someone xj8. Battery low. Speen sensor on all 4 wheel simply swap and see if curs. Module connector often loosing circuit solder and can need resoldering. On x350 found wires module were bad. Someone had missed around with it and 2 pins not connected. Ken.
I’m a Jaguar aficionado and three time owner, from an XKE, thru an XJ6 to my present XK8. I’m an affluent Professional white straight man. The new Jaguar Telly Tubby’s ad appears to be aimed at my polar opposite, an unhappy, gay, trans, androgynous Sub-Saharan people. I am completely repulsed by the new cars. I will have to look into Aston Martins if I want a new beautiful British car.

Hi John. Yes. I think hydrogen will be the longterm answer. EV just seems a quicker fix and maybe therfore a bit short sighted. But what do we know..😁

Always check the easiest and the cheapest bits first 👍👍
Many thanks for vid. My 97 coupe has identical issues as you report . Looking forward to part two. Hope it is the cure for both vehicles!

You'll see it's a pretty easy fix. Northern Wisconsin USA

Thanks @philf5043. Nice to emphasise that this particular issue is very much a 'cars of a certain era issue rather than a jag xk8 issue 👍

Agree...low battery can cause this...change the battery, then all good again
