I was diagnosed with Scoliosis of the spine at 10 years of age that my family Doctor suggested to be placed in a body cast for minimum of one year. He said that would probably be followed by surgery. From the moment of diagnosis I had a deep rooted feeling to never go along with proticol from the Doctor which I was so happy I did. I was extremely athletic coupled with extreme pain in my back but just took the time needed to heal and went right back to my sports once feeling a bit better. But as years went on while and after having two children the pain was sometimes unbearable. I persevered because I knew that if I chose surgery it would result in a 50% chance of becoming paralyzed and knowing I still cared for two children it wasn't an chance I wanted to take. Thankfully from my 40's plus I have abosikuteky no more back pain that I'm extremely grateful for. I applied inner release work based upon the emotions that were causing my back pain and urge you or anyone else to please contemplate seeing that physical pain is directly connected to our emotional pain.
I'm never letting any 🦆🦆🦆🦆 doctor any where near my spinal cord. when you see how rough a lot of them are with their hands I handle computers more gentle than most of them.
I've had 2 back surgeries for scoliosis to and I've had it all my life I had my first back surgery in 6th grade then another back surgery in 8th grade I'm 29 now and my back hurts all the time it never stops hurting
Thanks for sharing your story. Im going for my scan in December. I'm going to push for surgery because once my back acks up the pain is killer. And I have to work through it at work. I'm 48 and I want this fixed before it's to late. The pain last time was over a month walking side ways.
Thanks for telling your story. I wonder if the complications during your surgery were actually caused by a surgical error such as one of the screws they tried to insert accidentally damaged your spinal cord. I would be looking into that because if they screwed up and it caused you to be paralyzed you need to get paid a lot of money.Good luck with everything and it sucks that your life had to change. From behind me came a drunk driver who hit me from behind and kept going. I went flying in the air coming down in the back of my helmet. My left leg was broken as well as my T-3, 4 Like you I’m paralyzed from the chest down. Oh I forgot to say that was Aug 33, 1980. I was 19 at the time. 40 years later I’m 59. I’ve done a lot if things in those years from public speaking to scuba diving in Hawaii and Caribbean. I’ve been to Alaska fishing. Canada hunting n fishing. I’ve been in four cruises too. Hi Kylie. I'm impressed with your matter of fact story but sorry to hear of that bad practice of medicine and the devastating results. I once had a triple osteotomy of the right pelvis (an idiotic operation) to try and get better coverage on my hip socket because it was displacing (dyplasia). When i woke uP they asked me to move my right foot and i told them i am moving it! But when i looked at it it was not moving! The right foot motor function failed because of sciatic nerve injury from the doctors operation. When he found out i could not move my foot he released the pins on the osteotomy puting my socket in a awful position and i walked ( limped) with a cane badly for decades. Long story short they did a salvage procedure on my hip and my drop foot recovered after 15 years, i don't have to wear a drop foot brace anymore and walk slowly with out a cane, i do feel lucky. Doctors are very foulable and very arrogant iMHO. Thanks for sharing and maybe others will think hard before any complex surgical procedure is executed.👍

Well, you have excellent posture, inner and outward beauty and a great story to share, Kylie! I'm a c4,5,6 who was blessed to receive the tenth decompression surgery on the cervical spine in the world in summer of 1981. Dr. Henry Bohlman, Orthopedic Surgeon, Case-Western Reserve Hospital in Cleveland, OH; successively gained me one root level of function (C7). He also did the anterior/ posterior fusion recommended earlier. I was told in Indianapolis that x-rays showed after 4 months of in-patient therapy, the C5 vertebrae had slipped closer to my spinal cord; I had been left sitting on my hospital bed unattended with a Halo brace on and fell - ouch. At age twenty-five, I asked my parents be present to hear their remedy a few days after their suggestion of surgery. I should add that the neurosurgeon who would be delivering his plan to stabilize my neck had installed my Halo 2-3 days after my Helicopter arrival. As a new patient, this doctor came to my bed at 4 am the morning after installing my Halo and ordered a shot of Demerol. He ignored my charts and wrist band saying my only allergy was Demerol; I aspirated and spent the next nineteen days in the ICU - INSTANT PNEUMONIA. Because of this, my folk's rented a hotel room connected to the hospital until the tube to the respirator could be removed. After eighteen days of miserable breathing my Internal Medicine doctor was sharing with my parents he thought the tube could be removed in 10-14 days. The next morning I was in a lounge kind of seat getting bathed. I asked the nurse (using my hands and facial expression) to cut the tape so the tube would come out of my mouth in the opposite direction. She turned to set the scissors down; I awkwardly got the tube between my paralyzed hands, pulled and pulled until I tossed that nasty tube on the floor. Code Blue; a familiar face (doctor) charged in one door. I didn't understand paralysis and warned them I would physically hurt them if they tried to put the tube back in. Two days later I was on the SCI unit and the work began. 'Doctor's are only human,' is a poor excuse for costly mistakes that alter or finish-off another's life...the doctor didn't have the decency to apologize. Thank God for my mother who found Dr. Bohlman and his sure and steady hands. His decompression on the cervical spine with front and rear fusion(s) is the practice of the day.
Being a person that has had 2 spinal surgeries and 2 that can't be done I can tell you that before you go into surgery they tell you what could or couldn't happen during surgery. You sign a release form prior to surgery. She was given the statistics by the doctor. Also, any surgery can be dangerous and have a bad outcome. Always get a second opinion!
That’s horrible, I have scoliosis on my lower back, it wasn’t that bad ,cause I even joined the Army National Guard , & pass the physical. But I always had pain on my lower back,and as time passed & got older my back got worse , and in 2016 the Dr. told that I need to have a spinal fusion, so I had the surgery & that was the worst pain , 3 or 4 days later I went home and i knew that something was wrong cause my pain was so bad , 6 months later my back was still hurting ,and the Dr continue to lie telling me that I was gone get better, so I went to another Dr, & had a MRI & my new Dr lord that my hardware was out , and I had my second surgery in 2017 , am better cause my hardware is secure and it was done right ,but my back still hurting, and the Dr told me that I need another back surgery,but I refuse,am afraid, & horrified of having another back surgery, cause they might damage my back even worse, I can walk , I just have to live with pain for the rest of my life . Yes MRI are loud I’ve had a few for my back , I broke mine at 24 L5S1 and 6 five inch blood clot on my spine I couldn’t move an inch forward I could put my pants and socks on ,I lost my feeling from my waist down , I can relate to you love please let’s talk if you wish 💗 love
What was your sport expertise before you became paralysed? Any chance of you becoming a paralympic athlete now? you should try to do this. I'm focusing on trying to become one myself, I'm not paralysed but I'm partially disabled from a stroke. Health and fitness and to become an athlete is my goal now.
I played college softball. I also swam, played volleyball and basketball at one time. I have considered becoming a Paralympic athlete, however my career is very time consuming and I find it tough to find the time to train for enough time.

That must have been terrifying to wake up in an MRI! I've only had three experiences with anesthesia. The first two were very calm wake-ups, but the last time I jolted awake and was balling my eyes out uncontrollably. I kept asking "Why can't I stop?" I can only imagine going through an experience like that but waking up in a cold, loud, MRI room. Ugh! Also, MRIs take forever! Did you have to wait half an hour or so after waking up for the MRI to finish before you could start asking questions about what was going on?
Laura Zborowski yea it's so interesting because that memory of first waking up in the MRI is so vivid to me. I remember it all so well. I woke up and remembered trying to stretch and not being able to. Then I fell asleep. The next thing I know I was in the ICU waking up very confused and not understanding what had happened. I don't remember speaking with my surgeon, just him poking me over and over again. Pretty bizarre.
I recommend reading "2 arms and a head" by Clayton Atreus (2arms1head.com) for anyone interested in gaining some in depth insight to what being a paraplegic is like.
Jesus healed my scoliosis, it was 45 degrees. Seek Him because He is almighty God who can not only heal you but give you eternal life in heaven. This life is short and test, eternity is what really matters. Know that Jesus loves you and wants to help you, you just have to reach out to Him with honest heart in prayer. God bless you beautiful 💜

That sucks. PRI is the way to go with scoliosis. But hindsight is always 20/20. I know this too. I made my own mistakes. Doctors screwed me up royally too with their stupid mistakes...I hope you were compensated well even though I know that no amount would be enough. Sorry that happened to you! You seem like a brave girl!
So what about the compressed lung. If they could not complete the surgery did you wake up with still having a breathing problem. I am so sorry this happened to you. My friend just had rods placed in her back for the same condition. She had to have the surgery redone because the first surgery was not a success. 2n time around she is healing and feels it was success.

That’s horrible, I have scoliosis on my lower back, it wasn’t that bad ,cause I even joined the Army National Guard , & pass the physical. But I always had pain on my lower back,and as time passed & got older my back got worse , and in 2016 the Dr. told that I need to have a spinal fusion, so I had the surgery & that was the worst pain , 3 or 4 days later I went home and i knew that something was wrong cause my pain was so bad , 6 months later my back was still hurting ,and the Dr continue to lie telling me that I was gone get better, so I went to another Dr, & had a MRI & my new Dr lord that my hardware was out , and I had my second surgery in 2017 , am better cause my hardware is secure and it was done right ,but my back still hurting, and the Dr told me that I need another back surgery,but I refuse,am afraid, & horrified of having another back surgery, cause they might damage my back even worse, I can walk , I just have to live with pain for the rest of my life . Yes MRI are loud I’ve had a few for my back , I broke mine at 24 L5S1 and 6 five inch blood clot on my spine I couldn’t move an inch forward I could put my pants and socks on ,I lost my feeling from my waist down , I can relate to you love please let’s talk if you wish 💗 love

What was your sport expertise before you became paralysed? Any chance of you becoming a paralympic athlete now? you should try to do this. I'm focusing on trying to become one myself, I'm not paralysed but I'm partially disabled from a stroke. Health and fitness and to become an athlete is my goal now.
I played college softball. I also swam, played volleyball and basketball at one time. I have considered becoming a Paralympic athlete, however my career is very time consuming and I find it tough to find the time to train for enough time.

That must have been terrifying to wake up in an MRI! I've only had three experiences with anesthesia. The first two were very calm wake-ups, but the last time I jolted awake and was balling my eyes out uncontrollably. I kept asking "Why can't I stop?" I can only imagine going through an experience like that but waking up in a cold, loud, MRI room. Ugh! Also, MRIs take forever! Did you have to wait half an hour or so after waking up for the MRI to finish before you could start asking questions about what was going on?
Laura Zborowski yea it's so interesting because that memory of first waking up in the MRI is so vivid to me. I remember it all so well. I woke up and remembered trying to stretch and not being able to. Then I fell asleep. The next thing I know I was in the ICU waking up very confused and not understanding what had happened. I don't remember speaking with my surgeon, just him poking me over and over again. Pretty bizarre.

Jesus healed my scoliosis, it was 45 degrees. Seek Him because He is almighty God who can not only heal you but give you eternal life in heaven. This life is short and test, eternity is what really matters. Know that Jesus loves you and wants to help you, you just have to reach out to Him with honest heart in prayer. God bless you beautiful 💜

Why is it always the most athletic people? It's not fair. But at least she looks healthy and has complete function of her hands and her arms look strong. That is something.

That sucks. PRI is the way to go with scoliosis. But hindsight is always 20/20. I know this too. I made my own mistakes. Doctors screwed me up royally too with their stupid mistakes...I hope you were compensated well even though I know that no amount would be enough. Sorry that happened to you! You seem like a brave girl!

So what about the compressed lung. If they could not complete the surgery did you wake up with still having a breathing problem. I am so sorry this happened to you. My friend just had rods placed in her back for the same condition. She had to have the surgery redone because the first surgery was not a success. 2n time around she is healing and feels it was success.

Poor girl. But what happened ? Some nerves were cut by mistake or snapped ? It's weird that everything bellow the waste went numb all of a sudden. On accidents, usually the whole spine is broken and nerves are severed, but here ?
